Hey Rob. This is literally the one-and-only video I've seen on this subject - and such a good, frank and informative one. Thanks for going into the proper detail. I've just bought one of these last August (with fingers crossed to see whether I can afford to run it) - so very pleased to hear your ownership didn't burn you!! The next owner is a lucky man. They are fantastic cars and I agree with you - if you're interested in owning one, then go for it, while you can still get one. They just sound fantastic, are as low-visibility as you can get, and just get on and do what they say on the tin, every time. great channel Rob - sorry we won't be seeing any more of the red beast. That's alright though - You'll just have to get another one, soon as!!

Thank for the video, very interesting to watch as I also have a 997.1 GT3 ‘comfort’, which I have now had for 11 years and I love it I agree with everything you say, other than I took a different approach by always having a warranty. Given I had most of the front suspension replaced whilst trying to diagnose a rattle (which in the end was faulty shocks), a new PCM, new exhaust, new starter motor and I think a new power steering pump this month, I think I have got value for money. Other than a 991 Touring, I’m not sure there is anything else I’d want to change it for, Given I paid £70k when I bought it, it’s proving reasonable value for money 😀

Great to read this Danny, and congratualtions for having been able to enjoy the car for so long! I think the 997 era GT3 is peak 911, and teh best all round drivers car. Indeed you can now go faster, more comfortably in a later car, but I struggle to think of anything that beats the 997 for its size, engine, delivery and fun factor.

Interesting video Rob but think you’ve missed the key bits out people are interested in. Those being what you bought it for, finance costs (if applicable) and sale price. Without these the cost of ownership seems pointless to me. Otherwise, really like the channel, as a 996 CSR owner I find the videos really helpful and appreciate the time and effort you put in.
@TheThrottleCable
@TheThrottleCable 3 жыл бұрын
Depreciation on these is not as simple as most modern cars - sometimes they might appreciate so it is more an ‘of the moment’ figure! For me not so lucky as to get appreciation, but about an 8% loss on depreciation over 3 years (not a strong market right now), plus servicing costs. Either way I’d say very strong residuals normally follow a GT car.

Great video dude! I also have an 07 gt3 in pts orange over in nz (uk new car) for almost 4 years. Red looks great with the gold painted wheels. My 12 yr major service was a bit more expensive as i did coilpacks too, but everything else is similar. Soul performance exhaust sounds amazing (different tone to sharkwers). I also did the numeric shifter which is fantastic. Awesome car to own, nothing to really worry about other than tyres, brakes and basic servicing.

It's a bloody lovely car and after three years of owning it, it kind of becomes a mechanical extension of you. Once you were used to it, it was rapid cross-country. I took the back roads all the way to RPM that morning and it was a hoot despite how greasy the roads were. It's the first car I've ever sold that I wasn't 'ready' to sell - but with hopes of an expanding family a bigger house is the sensible 'Dad' move. The 996 will have to keep me honest for now :)

At one point, 2.55, you talk about the 12 year service. According to Porsche, on top of other things like spark plugs there is indeed the Gear Box oil change. You talk about a poly ribbed belt, but there is no mentionne of the belt in the Porsche service intervals that I have for the 997 GT3. Although I would change it by precaution never the less.
@TheThrottleCable
@TheThrottleCable 3 жыл бұрын
The interval is to replace the drive belt at 48,000 miles (80,000 km) or every 6 years - hence it falls into the 12 year along with the following: Spark plugs every 24,000 miles (40,000 km) or every 4 years. Fuel filter every 48,000 miles (80,000 km) or every 6 years. Transmission oil every 96,000 miles (160,000 km) or 12 years. Hey Rob I'm choosing between a 997.1 GT3 and a 997.1 Turbo manual. Was the GT3 very harsh and uncomfortable to use on weekends off for example? I've to find the right balance as I want to be able to go out with my wife in it. I like the Turbo but I always loved the GT3s. Is the clutch a big pain in the ass?
@TheThrottleCable
@TheThrottleCable 2 жыл бұрын
Nice problem to have! The suspension of the GT3 can be switched between firm and really quite hard. I thought it rode very well. for example it wasn't as hard riding and crashy as my Mini GP, but somewhat similar in firmness to my Renaultsport Megane 265 cup which was my daily no problem. The GT3 clutch is heavy yes; I wouldn't want to spend my days in traffic with it, however once on the go its so satisfying to use. GT3 & Turbo are quite different cars mind you - road racer vs grand tourer. The zingy character of the NA vs the more brutal delivery of the Turbo. I think you've got to try both if you're on the fence!
