White smoke! A new pope has been chosen! J/K. That smoke looks a lot like my '84 NA 944's blown head gasket. Mine was steaming so much that I came in early in its last race to ask if I was on fire. :/ (I was not, thank goodness, but I did miss taking the checkered flag by ONE lap.)

Did the front bumper of the 924 clear the U-Haul trailer without issue? I have one that was slightly lowered and we couldn’t get it to clear so that we could ratchet down the tire straps Also how would this compare to towing with the Cayenne? (Not diesel, but gas) Thanks! Great vid.

Ooh. Late to the party, but I remember these being a tight fit up there on U-Haul trailers. I've got a race-944 on Konis (take-offs from a Spec 944) and it just clears OK. I'm guessing yours must ride a little lower than mine, though.

Will Uhaul be your regular trailer? A light car on a small trailex/aluma/featherlite trailer woudn't be so bad but thsoe Uhaul trailers are pretty heavy.

The plan is to buy a trailer down the road, which will save a TON of weight and allow better positioning of cars on the trailer for tongue weight control. UHaul trailers are between 2,100 and 2,200 pounds with a ton of tongue weight, which makes them a bit "anyone-proof" but easy to overload a smaller tow vehicle. Even a basic steel open trailer can get trailer weight down to 1,800 pounds or so.

@@OutMotorsports I cross shopped the Cayenne back in ‘14 with my ML Merc. Porsche told me the Macan isn’t designed to tow, that’s why the Cayenne doesn’t have the PDK. I’d be careful haha or get a warranty

@@RossEnzo Dealerships are unfortunately poorly informed (generally) when it comes to towing. If the Macan "isn't designed to tow" then why would Porsche give it a relatively substantial tow rating? We're definitely curious how hard towing is on the PDK and will be reaching out to Porsche NA for any maintenance tips, but to say something with a 4,400 lb rating in the US (and 5,200 lb in Europe!) isn't designed for towing is just false. The Cayenne is certainly designed for bigger trailers and more weight, that's no question.

@@OutMotorsports I tow a 2.3 tonne ski boat trailer combo, no issues. It's just as smooth as an lc200 or touareg with aisin TC box. Long term it can't be as durable, but I don't see gentle usage with a load that much more severe then hot launching, and they can definitely take more than 50.

This is internet misinformation. The Porsche spec for a Macan is 4409 pounds. Just because this was done doesn’t mean it is wise.

Per the October 2013 version of the Macan's brochure (archived here: www.auto-brochures.com/makes/Porsche/Macan/Porsche_US%20Macan_2014.pdf) it was given a 5,291 pound tow rating by Porsche (page 22) for its 2014 model year launch. Given SAE J2807 was to be implemented for all MY2013+ vehicles, it seems Porsche later revised the approved tow rating to 4,409 pounds to ensure they would meet all test conditions of J2807. The test conditions that manufacturers must meet for that series of tests are strenuous, so it makes sense that the Macan was down-rated. All that to say we considered this tow "fine" given 1) Porsche initially rated the Macan to tow the weight and 2) our towing conditions were nowhere close to what SAE J2807 puts the vehicle through. We've got a request in to Porsche N.A. for more clarity and will update when we hear back.
