at 2:20 you debunked the neutral from 7th, it is a feature on all pdk equipped vehicles and I use it nearly daily. be it in the 718 cayman or a 991 Carrera. when you're in normal mode and have none of the sport modes enabled when at highway speeds you can press the up paddle whilst in 7th or pretty much any gear where a higher gear isn't possible to shift into due to low rpms. the gearbox then works out that you're trying to enable a neutral coasting mode. it is similar to Mercedes Benz' "glide" mode. note the car will only enter the coast mode when no throttle is applied. as soon as you apply the throttle it goes back into gear, the mode is particularly useful when travelling on a slight downward gradient where you can maintain your speed without having to consume more fuel. try it out!

I have found the car will go into neutral and coast only if the auto stop button is active. I don’t like coasting or auto stop, so I always press the button off.

Never realised about the coasting in neutral feature. Very interesting ! Thanks !!!

5:10 try leaving the seat: it's possible you have a seat occupancy sensor (and the car will engage the parking brake)

My 991.1 2013 911 will go into neutral when both paddles are engaged simultaneously. My stop/start is off.

On my 2018 Macan GTS, the parking brake will automatically engage if I am in gear (manual or auto for the PDK) and I open the door. I cannot replicate it on my 991.1 GTS.

Oh interesting I wonder why they'd do it on some models but not others. Thanks for the comment!

Did you try reverse gear vs forward gear for the parking brake to engage with door opening?

@@geoffrohrer6223 I tried it in both forward and reverse, no parking brake in either case

Perhaps the it’s a .2 thing. The parking brake does engage when I’m in gear with an open door.

@@jackchan1013 Hmm, yeah very well could be a .1 vs .2 difference....thanks for letting me know! Does your car still go into neutral if you pull both paddles?

I hear you, lots of fun to drive a manual. The PDK is pretty good for a daily though if you end up sitting in lots of traffic. When I bought my 911 I had a commute that was only around 14 miles but frequently took 1 - 1.5 hours sitting in traffic. I still have my Elise and the 356 for manual fun though!

I’ve been driving a manual for 35+ years, bought a Porsche with the PDK … it’s the best gearbox ever, I’ll never go back yet to a manual gearbox it’s just a pain in the as* driver engagement is no different PDK or Manual…. It’s just different!
@AtypicalDriver5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the nice comment! Glad you like the PDK. I always say it depends how you use the car, which you'll prefer. But long gone are the days when an "automatic" transmission made a sports car slower or handicapped in some way. Ensuring the PDK models are actually faster 0-60 than manuals was a smart decision and shifted (pun intended) away from that stigma.

Single clutch good. Dual clutch better. But torque convertor transmissions, have lots and lots of clutches....
@AtypicalDriver Жыл бұрын
Soooo maybe more isn't better in this case you're sayin'??🤣
@drtone8 ай бұрын
@@AtypicalDriver No it is better. Its lighter, cheaper, Torque converter is a torque multiplication device so car launches faster and clutches lock up reducing wear cf to dual clutches and is smoother in slow parking and reversing maneuvers. It also can down shift directly to any gear, where depending on gear, PDK/DCT has to shuffle between odd and even gear sets which results in balky, slow random multigear/skip downshifts. Also, ZF8hp can easily adapt to AWD or switchable 2WD/4WD setups that DCT can't.
