Oh yeah! Recovery tip! Gel ice pack help! The heavier the better not only do they last longer but with some of us the weight helps the pain as well sounds counterintuitive but hey if it helps it helps! Good luck and quick recovery!

Hope your recovering well! You mentioned TPN, would they try tube feeds first, or would the TPN just be very short term. As you probably know TPN has a lot of risks, and has a much higher infection risk when going through a port (the sugars get stuck in the needle and actual port itself). If its short term to gain weight totally understand but usually tube feeds are first! I would ask your doc if you can try those first! :)

I love the way that Paul and Judd are with janiece and jacquie. When I go into hospital my husband might visit for like 20 minutes lol. My dad would stay the whole day if he could though. When I had my three back surgeries in three weeks I had to lay flat and I couldn’t move to reach for anything so the dietary put me on finger foods for the month I was in and all they had was chicken fingers and fries. I was so tired of it that my dad brought me food and fed it to me. My dad and I do stuff like that for each other since we are both chronically ill. Praying for janiece a speedy recovery!

TPN isn't bad and it's not that big of a deal. You don't want to be on 24hr TPN so you want them to get it to cycle it, I do my TPN for 12 hours, so I can do it at night and make it so I am not hooked up during the day if I need to go anywhere. I am willing to answer any port or TPN questions you have or anyone has. I have been on TPN for nearly 4 years.

Maybe a j tube with a peptide base formula or something like Elecare Jr. might be a option to try before TPN. Or maybe both, just to give you nutrition while you are figuring out if the formula and tube word work/help.

Is that the standard procedure for inserting ports and Hickman lines in the US? They seem to be super generous with medication 😲 most videos I’ve seen on ports in the US have you guys under heavy sedation or even G.A swell as bonus pre meds 😜.Every port or Hickman line I’ve hade inserted has been done with me wide awake with some local anaesthetic however they do offer you some mild sedation if you are struggling or it’s complicated insertion. The only time I asked is when they were trying to push the guide wire through a previous subclavian DVT and even then it didn’t really do much for me.. I think I’d rather have the pain even though the tunnelling SUCKS MAJOR ASS 😭 than the grogginess after having the sedation! I was surprised to keep seeing videos were patients are either completely out under general or very heavily sedated as standard .. seems kind of excessive and risky for suck a short minor procedure ..After running a 2hr bag of fluids to check everything works fine I walk to the train and ride home. Don’t get me wrong I’ve seen patents say they will only have it done under general and they will arrange it but it means waiting on the theatre rota until a free space comes up nut time do it as standard feels like a unnecessary risk to take as generals can have son horrific complications as well as having a longer recovery time ...I’ve seen the prices they charge for a hospital bed where yall are!!.. no thank you !!😂 Especially considering most people getting ports and lines have weak immune systems so the last place you want to be is a hospital !! Sorry to ramble it’s just the US system seems so backwards sometimes over treating some tings and then neglecting others ...like I say I’m sure procedure is often based around profit opposed to wats best for the patients health! I’m sure they make way more money charging for an overnight stay... pre-Meds ...G.A and a day of observations than some local and a wound care

When I got my port they collapsed both lungs sod had to put tunes in my lunges to reinstate them because I was so skinny they tried to put it on one side and I was too skinny so they went too the other side
