I like your take on the mod and agree with lots of your points, but I wanna point out some parts which I just think you misunderstood. 11:18 this was a reference to the line: please avoid unsheltered testing areas wherever a lack of shelter from space debris down not appear to be a deliberate part of the test. Oh and at 15:00 it’s just the cubes playing music in general. Same as the companion cube in portal 2, just with all cubes 23:00 there is a text on the floor saying „elevator to the surface“ And my last point 38:40 there have been years between her being scanned in and working on GLaDOS as said by Stefan Heinz himself. A lot can change in this time span. But yeah allein one I agree with most of your points and think that the dialogue is the weakest part of the mod. Still like it though and am happy the devs decided to make this for us and spend 8 years of their life’s on it

Hey Uraqt, thank you so much for the comment! You raise some very good points, and I'd love to respond to each of them. 11:18 - That's a good point, I hadn't thought of that. Although, I do think that joke worked in Portal 2 because it played off of the fact that falling space debris would naturally occur as a result of some catastrophic world-ending event, while the joke in Revolution is missing that part. But it's a really clever observation nonetheless! 15:00 - Did the companion cube really play music in Portal 2? Even if it did, I have a hard time believing it was as loud as in Revolution! But interesting point then, if it did in Portal 2... 23:00 - Yep, you are totally right there, and I am an idiot for missing that part. My brother pointed it out to me as well when I was almost finished with the video, but I thought it was too late to change. You're totally right. 38:40 - Okay fair enough, I guess I messed up the time span between Emilia's scan and her working on GLaDOS. But still, she talks as if she were ready to work on GLaDOS even before she was scanned, and she even explains to us that she already knew that Caroline would be opposed to be uploaded into GLaDOS, but still went along with working on GLaDOS in the real world anyway. But yeah, it's a bit convoluted that part, and I might be missing a few key details. You are totally right about it being a good game despite its flaws, and I really do appreciate the developers for making it despite criticizing it so harshly in the video. And once again, thank you so much for your insights and your comment!

@@the_holland no problem, I really liked the video. Was a different take on the mod and made me think about some aspects. And of course we don’t have to agree on everything. But I agree with almost all of your takes on the dialogue. Oh and for clarity, yes the companion cube had music, and I think it was just as loud. Lot of people didn’t notice that tho. Have a nice day. I hope you make more game analysis in the future

@@Uraqt_1337 Funny thing with the companion cube, I'll have to notice that next time I play through Portal 2 :) And you're totally right about us not having to agree, that's the beauty of this. Thank you so much Uraqt and a lovely day to you as well. I really hope I get around to doing more analyses as well!

4:16 i think you have his character pegged wrong, I literally think he has a personality vs Glados who doesn’t
@the_holland4 ай бұрын
I get what you're saying Showd, I do. But I would actually argue that GLaDOS DOES have a personality, it's just a very robotic one - and that Sterling obviously has one as well, but then when he says things like the lines I mention in the video, they don't work for his character, at least not in my opinion. It could just be a personal thing!

Just watched the video, and I have to say, it's an incredible video game analysis! I really like the direction you went with the critique, raising some very good points about the mod and its development. Not only that, but you really did take a lot of them that one step further which made the video all the more engaging. The only thing I would say is maybe work a bit on the pacing, it might just be me but I felt like I was losing track of your points from time to time. Other than that tho, amazing job, really looking forward to more!

Hi there Als, Wow, thank you so much for the kind words, I'm honoured you watched the video. I can totally see what you mean by pacing. Whenever I write, my sentences sometimes get a bit too long and convoluted so they become hard to follow, but I hadn't realised I was doing it in this video as well until you pointed it out, and you're totally right. Thank you for pointing that out, and thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video!

Pretty sick you can shoot holes in the walls and stuff, looks cool - is it early access?

You make a lot of good points about the story, but I do feel that at times you set the standards for this mod way too high, higher than even the base Portal 2. In particular I got really mad at the comment that the water leak was a bad addition because the chamber wasn't flooded.
@the_holland7 ай бұрын
Hi Nuclearshill, thank you so much for your kind and honest words! I understand where you're coming from; I was certainly being hyper-critical when making a lot of my points. The one about the water leak just stood out to me when I first saw it, and I thought it felt a little strange just how much water was leaking and disappearing into thin air, but I understand that it's a trifle. On the point about the water leak and a few others, I would never drag the game down in terms of quality - they are by far my least important critiques :)

I felt that this analysis was maybe a little too over critical. I think when reviewing portal revolution understanding the context that it is a fan game is very important - when viewing some of the problems with the game like this they make sense. I enjoyed the delivery of sterling and found the jokes funny. For example, with the emancipation grill line i liked it because it was referencing the portal line, yet if it were performed by a glados-like character i dont think it would have worked as well - i found that sterling being more enthusiatic allowed for the narrator to be unique instead of just copying the pre existing wheatley and glados. I also found that the over-positivity felt satirically funny in a way that i enjoyed. However, I can see how these jokes could fall flat to some people and the point of the joke could be easily missed especially for those who can struggle to understand tone (this happens to me a lot lol). I do like that you're able to provide good criticism in all of your video essays because a lot of other youtubers just focus on the positives because they enjoy what theyre reviewing however the balance in this video between criticism and positivity wasnt the best. Although, maybe this is just because my experience of portal revolution was really good i didnt like hearing criticism for it.

Hi, Jammy! Well, I guess what we find humorous can be quite individual. I'm glad to hear that you liked Sterlings character :) You have some really balanced points, and it's such a joy to read them. This review was the first one I ever did, and I agree with you that the balance between criticism and positivity wasn't the best. Thanks a ton for the comment!!
