You run in to a highly exaggerated form of this issue when you play airsoft, having to opt for heavier rounds that travel slower and have more arc but isn't offset by wind and debris as much. It’s a nice sentiment, but just because you’re able to identify what doesn’t work doesn’t always mean you can make a good movie from scratch. That’s what the Nostalgia Critic thought, and it made him look like an asshole lol
@bradleysaunders1595 жыл бұрын
having a competent understanding of film-making is certainly part of what makes possum a good reviewer. I like to think I have a decent understanding of lot of the components of good (and bad/mediocre) cinematography, writing, acting, and other fundamental building blocks of a good film, as well as how they should mesh and interact with one another to achieve the intended result. (insofar as I could communicate effectively the reasons individual parts of a film, scene etc or the sum of those parts does or does not work and make an educated guess as to the intention behind the decisions that went into that result). That being said while that is an important part of being an effective shot compositor, director, actor, sound mixer, cameraman, staging professional, or any of the many roles taken on by film-making professionals, there are many other factors that go into creating a good film. I don't doubt that Possum would be more than capable of creating technically and artistically competent films if he decided to pursue that as a serious undertaking, it's important to remember that commentary/analysis professionals in many different fields of interest, art, competition etc aren't necessarily on the same level of applied expertise. A sportscaster may very well be able to effectively explain why an interaction between players/teams happened in the way it did and what that likely means in regards to the implications that interaction will have going forward in the game for both teams in different inter-related categories (psychology, metagame, momentum etc). Sorry for being stupidly longwinded. To clarify I'm not trying to say Possum wouldn't be better than the average director because his knowledge base is going to provide him with the ability to, at the very least, understand the quality of what he's filmed and make changes if necessary. Definitely not saying he would be worse than the director of suburban sasquatch because, I mean, that's like being better at running than someone who has wind-chimes for knees and is currently in a catatonic state. That being said the skillset for understanding and communicating the skill involved in, and nuances of a craft isn't the same skillset that's required to produce a craft with the same level of competence and nuance. It's just that they operate off of the same knowledge base in many ways.

Best growl/roar in movie history, next to Godzilla. But it is much more "personal" , than Godzilla. Sasquatch is going to eat you, and/or tear off some limbs, rather than squash your whole town/city.
