Post Office denied review to prevent 'front page news'

Ex-Post Office boss Paula Vennells followed a “grossly improper” suggestion to not review all subpostmaster prosecutions after her communications chief said it would end up “front page news”, the Horizon IT inquiry has heard.
The probe was shown an email exchange between Ms Vennells and then director of communications Mark Davies in July 2013 in which she said she would “take your steer” after he said looking at all past cases would be “in media terms… very high profile”.

This is a smoking gun folks. This is clear cover-up. Deliberately not looking at old cases to avoid bad publicity. The following email from Vennels, agrees that is what they should do. That's it right there. She agrees not to look for publicity reasons. That's a gotcha; slam dunk, cat is in the bag. No word salad can change the meaning.

It's disgraceful, before each post office representative answers the questions they look at the laptop screen in front of them and the Post Office Barrister who is listening in provides them with the answer they should give. It's like going into an exam at School with all the answers on a notepad. How on earth is this legal, it's to make sure the Post Office doesn't get sued.

Given at this stage they were beginning to see that there may be a problem with continuing with convictions, given what had come to light in regards the Horizon system, and in the interests of justice they should have questioned the possibility of wrongful convictions in the past, they should have included all. Because why should the current ones be the only ones to worry about. It was to save face, and little to do with justice. What they seem to have chosen to do now gives the impression of a cover up. Karma has had other ideas, and the whole thing has resulted in a very public revealing of what happened, in the form of the enquiry.

I read somewhere that she was not apparently very bright. IMO that was what they wanted, someone not perspicacious therefore willing to do what she was told to do, which I presume was "protect the brand"? Look at some of our politicians in government - morons.
