The point made here regarding the written hearing and sanctions around written versus verbal is interesting, because so much of the misunderstanding is not acknowledging that people without the language and culture can’t understand what went on in the interview. Rodrigo is being judged on the written word. There is no retroactive revisionism on the verbal sarcasm nor chiding body language. This is also clear in the point made about what the interviewer did not do in regards to the broadcast. Rodrigo would have believed that the interviewer made the error that he was correcting, yet the interviewer and broadcaster was superfluous to the situation. Of course the commission struggled to understand that. This would be extremely frustrating for Rodrigo because he’s done everything right from the start and even gone along with what he thought was required, despite it being misunderstood completely, and he is still on the end of people extrapolating out comments about what they’ve read. At every step, he would have expected common sense and cultural sensitivity and got none. Some irony.

Interesting, on one side you have the staunch supporter of the Isr goverment (Mr Gold) and its actions. And on the other hand you have a guy (Bentancur) who (in his home in a one-on-one interview) made a snarky remark towards the appearance of asians....

Bentacur might have been making a sarcastic point to the journalist but it was still a silly.thing to do. Having done that though it would i think have been tricky to say it was sarcasm in a public apology on twitter as that would be throwing the journalist under the bus to some extent which i imagine is a bit of a no no

I love bentancur and I don’t think he’s really racist , however he made a racist comment ! He needs to accept it and move on ! The best case scenario is 6 games so it’s just not worth it and the optics are terrible. The club score another optics own goal . 🤦‍♂️
