I actually made a needle tool myself. Just form a handle from polymer clay, stick a pin or needle in, secure it and bake it. Feels nicer than just a needle and can be made from scraps if you have them.

I’ve been wanting to try pottery but it’s too expensive. I’ll try these techniques in air dry clay to kind of get the same feels. Will it be okay???

Air-dry clay will only work for non-functional pottery. But yes, all the techniques are the same!

Just look up "turntable" in your area. Mine is from Boesner, which is a art supply store here in Germany.
