I've made lines using a needle tool and a wooden rib. I just bought a ball tool but didn't know what to do with it. I can see how it will make cleaner lines without worrying about cutting too deep.

Hi Marie, can you explain what you mean by a 10 minute hold. I'm pretty new to pottery and will be trying my first kiln bisque and glaze fire. I love your helpful videos
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 2 жыл бұрын
Your first bisque!!! How exciting. Yes at the end of your glaze firing you can set your on a 10-minute hold before it shuts down. This evens out the temperature in the kiln it also helps the glaze to cure. This post should also help with beginner kiln questions. potterycrafters.com/21-kiln-questions-answered/ it has a video about it also.👍😊

Hi Marie. Loved seeing your first kiln opening of 2022. Can you please briefly explain why sometimes you use a clear glaze over your Amaco glazes and other times you don't? Is there a special requirement for clear glazes? I know when I'm using earthenware clay I use a clear glaze over my underglazes to make my pieces food grade and safe. But with my Amaco glazes I'm not sure I should or shouldn't use a clear glaze when I'm using a stoneware clay. As always, thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and artistic pieces with us.
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Good question. You don't need to use clear glaze over your glazes only over underglazes. I only use clear glaze over underglazes. Even if it is stoneware because I want the glossy look. Also, you will need to apply clear glaze over your underglaze if you don't fire your stoneware hot enough to vitrify the clay 😊

Thank you, Daisy. I have had trouble with Amaco clear for some reason. I switched to Speedball clear glaze with great results. Yes, you do have to be careful not to apply your clear glaze too thick 😊

Hi I was wondering about your kiln and how much you can fire, the cost make and model - I'm looking for a kiln that I can use at home for some of my pieces - some advice or a video on home kilns would be greatly appreciated
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters Жыл бұрын
Hi Geoffry. This Kiln holds around 15 pieces. Now that really depends on the size of the pottery pieces. This is a Skutt 818-3 It is efficient and perfect for me. Here is a link to a post on kilns to help you decide. potterycrafters.com/buying-a-pottery-kiln/ My Kiln is the second one on the page.

Hi. Love your videos!! I’m a new potter and purchased a used kiln. Aim High Temp that fires to a cone 10. It has a kiln sitter. I replaced the elements and they are not heating evenly. I see random dark spots in the elements. They were costly and I don’t want to damage them with my first firing. Please someone help 😩
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Welcome to the wonderful world of creating pottery. 😍 First make sure your new elements were installed properly. Unfortunately, if your elements are not heating properly and you are getting spots you will have to have someone look at them or take them back and try new ones again. 😊

Hi Marie! Happy New Year. Is it possible to fire greenware that has been underglazed in the same kiln load as bisqued and glazed pots, all to cone 5? Or would the greenware offput too much stuff to be in the same kiln as glazed pieces?

Hi mArie!! I love your videos! I wanted to ask you do I need to your face mask while working with clay I mean when I am Making something? I still don’t mix glazes or clay I normally buy everything ready. Do I still Need to use a mask ? Thank you!
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Very good question. You only have to wear a face mask when you are working with dry clays, sanding bisque ware, and dry glazes. Think of it as -- If it's dry it flies in the air and you need a face mask. 😀 This post will be helpful. Here is the link for you. potterycrafters.com/pottery-clay-dust-how-to-minimize-it/

Hello Marie I made large bowls with clay plates I did a first cooking at cone 04 and then after having glazed them cooked at cone 5 but when they came out of the oven I saw that they were deformed do you have any suggestions and what can cause my bowls to deform? Thanks again.again
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 2 жыл бұрын
There are several reasons this could have happened. Your kiln may be firing too hot. Do you use pyrometric cones to make sure your firing temperature is correct? Or your clay is a lower firing temperature clay. Clay will deform when fired too hot. I hope this helps 😊

@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 2 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, Robert. Yes, you can try it. But you still have to figure out if your clay is a lower firing clay or your kiln is firing incorrectly. 😊 Have you fired this clay at cone 5 before?
