Impressive! 50 Lb draw, I must say I was surprised. It's a perfect bow for surviving in the outdoors. I hunt with modern compound bows, from mathews, hoyt, pse, and the latest bowtech. But I mostly I shoot mathews. That being said, there's nothing like going back to shooting a stick. Every now and then, I pick up my 63 Lb recurve just to see the flight of the arrow. It's a beautiful thing.

@@Helmbowman aha 4mm it looked thicker in the video. I just finished a 4mm bending bow with a strip of 3mm cut and fitted 90 degrees to the bend to make the shiya then cut and glued wood to the sides of that and wrapped with fishing line to keep together. Pretty happy with the result. About 40 lbs at full draw 31/32 inches. I use thumb draw.

NICE!...that's the kind of build I'm thinking about for my next bow... a take down recurve, I already bought the fiberglass limbs [for a 40 lib bow] mine are black, 6X30 mm, and 56 cm long [different than yours] and I bought a set of wooden [ash] riser and siyahs, and an extra riser made of nylon, and inside steel frame , thinking of using bolts to hold the limbs to the riser... I could trust the steel frame better than wood... my risers are slim, traditional... that's the kind of bows I'm shooting [I have some experience on making and using self-bows, straight long and short so far...] this time I go for a take down, short recurve bow... so any tips according to the dimensions of my limbs that I provided are welcome... I don't care much of the draw weight , this time I go for speed...

Wonderful design man. From a Bowyers perspective you should redo this project. Not for any direct mistake. But for a refinement. Take your current model. Place it on a tiller rack, and measure out your full draw. THEN, measure your string angle where the string contacts the sayah. At full draw for max efficiency it should be 60 degrees. Then make the angular correction adding or subtracting(from the video I'm going to say adding) degrees to the mount angle of your sayahs to the limb body, so the next bow has a 60° angle at full draw. I did like how you blended western and eastern bow designs. Nice touch. However on a logistic level of two measured archers of equal years of practice. One from the east and one from the west. The archer from the east, nocking on the outside of the bow will knock and draw faster, as well as be able to utilize the additional skill of khatra(one of, or a combination of 3 movements with the bow upon the moment of release). A skill not available to archers who knock to the inside of the bow. A skilled archer with khatra can an arrow absent of the archers paradox, as well as a wider range of arrow weights and sizes that a western bow with a center cutout arrow rest can never achieve. Perhaps could attempt it though never to the degree of eastern bow. In short the western archer blames his bow and arrow for not just letting him shoot a straight arrow. The bow was in the way, that's y the arrow miss. So they made the bow larger so they can cut a hole in it. When the eastern archer just learned to move the bow out of the way..

To be fair plastic bows are much better than wooden bows since they're already windproof and waterproof wich is actually a very big deal if ur planning on making a long lasting bow a wooden bow will never outlive a plastic one simply because it needs to be oiled constantly and if u don't oil it properly cracks will form or the bow might eventually lose its flexibility overtime meanwhile a plastic one is not only much lighter but can also reach the same amount of pounds per draw as a wooden recurve bow although thought to for kids and weak plastic bows are literally the best bows out there however for survival?You don't really need to waste space and keep a bow in ur backpack if u plan on going out there in the woods you should Carry a solid knife a hatchet or tomahawk but I prefer hatchets cuz they're more solid you also need a sort of wood working saw or u can buy a folding saw wich works just as well and doesn't take much space in ur backpack if u have there 3 tools u can pretty much build a bow extremely quickly how?Grab a bunch of straight sticks from bushes cut with ur knife or hatchet all the branches off of them until ur left with bunch of sticks bundle them up together tie them with paracord and than try making some notches for adding a bow string this method to make a bow in the wild is extremely quick and the best part is u can make a bow far stronger than traditional bows with bunch of sticks simply by adding more sticks to the bow bundle u can increase or decrease the poundage of the bow and the strength if a stick breaks or becomes a liability u can easily replace it with another one and that is extremely easy to do I think adding a portable to ur backpack is sort of unnecessary if u can make one in less than an hour

Will the joints become loose after using it for a while? 5) What material did you add into epoxy to make it black? Your help will be deeply appreciated.
@Helmbowman
@Helmbowman Ай бұрын
Hi, width of fiberglass is 33mm, thickness of ash board for siyahs is 20mm, woven fiberglass is 1mm thick, but its not necessary to put anything on tenon, i just put it for extra security… Wood joint will not get loose if its tight fit, if tenon have room to move inside mortise than it could get looser over time, just be sure to wrap joint with fiberglass or carbon, because that is what holding it together. For epoxy i use pigment paste made for epoxy dyeing. If you have more questions feel free to ask 😀
