Nice Job. You can wind your own coils, they're only a coil of wire.. Take an old one apart, unwind it, and count the number of turns it takes to remove the whole wire.. If ya rewind it with longer wire (more turns) you'll get more voltage.. if ya rewind it with larger gage wire, you'll get more amperage. . either way = MORE POWER ! Then you can add a tail light, and fog lights,

I think any Chinese clone engines are copies of engines that begin with “H” and no parts are actually shared or made in the same factory. Honda manufactures their own components (mostly) and has very high standards for the quality of each and every component that goes into their engines. The materials are better, the castings, machining, tolerances are tighter and much closer to their engineers design specifications. They have taken great care in the design, engineering and manufacturing of their engines. This attention to detail and adherence to their own standards of quality has earned Honda engines their now legendary reputation for quality, dependability and longevity. Chinese manufacturers have simply stolen a proven design that works to churn out in mass quantities. They prioritize quantity over quality and cut corners at every step, beginning with metalurgy and continuing all the way to assembly. As decent as predator motors CAN be, in most cases at least, they are not in the same league as Honda. I highly doubt you would find a Honda motor that didn’t run, right out of the box. This is not an extremely uncommon occurrence with the predators. Don’t get me wrong, they’re usually great for the money but they are one of the best examples of “You get what you pay for.” There’s a reason they are as low as 20% the cost of a Honda and it’s not because Honda is just greedy. I’ve heard people refer to Honda motors as “ridiculously overpriced.” It’s funny, I’ve never heard anyone refer to them as ridiculously over engineered, ridiculously reliable, ridiculously resilient, ridiculously easy to start or lasting a ridiculously long time. The most common issue with Honda small engines is the cheap Chinese replacement parts people buy, thinking they’re just as good. In Japanese culture, they’re not as concerned with ones trade as they are the craftsmanship of the tradesman. It’s honorable to take great pride in what you do and to always strive for perfection. You do so knowing absolute perfection is impossible. However, if perfection is always your goal, you will always be improving. This is how one becomes a master of their trade. Unfortunately, you have different philosophies and motivations while under the iron fist of a totalitarian dictatorship. I look forward to the day when China (and the rest of the planet) are free from the tyranny of those so desperately needing to feel in control. (Obviously they’re overcompensating for something they feel is extremely lacking).
@tristan65093 ай бұрын
Nah they are actually overpriced in the US In my country, a genuine thai GX160 is $250, the Jialing version $190, and the plastic shrouded GP160 $160. In the US I've seen the thai version go for like $600 which is nuts, that's almost enough money to buy a brand new 110cc Honda wave/revo motorcycle.

@@tommyhajimoto6968 without the regulator, it depends on revs. If the system is designed to work with a voltage regulator, then magneto produces higher than 12v voltage (so the regulator will have enough energy on low rpms). On my bike, for example, it produces around 60v before regulator rectifier... However, if a system wasn't designed to work with regulator, then it should produce in vicinity of 12v AC on max revs. You just have to measure what you have in your case, before plugging in any electrical devices.

You’ll need a flywheel with magnets on the outside which produce energy for spark plug and magnets on the inside of the flywheel which produce electricity for your headlight. Original flywheel that comes from the factory only has magnets on the outside that’s why it won’t work. In other words, you’ll probably need a new flywheel if your motor isn’t pre-wired to supply electricity to your headlight. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@hansevensen84266 жыл бұрын
He'd need to install a battery and a voltage rectifier to have a voltage regulator be useful. It isn't really worth the effort. All you would get is a headlight that is bright at idle until the battery drains itself to idle voltage. I could argue that a voltage rectifier is a much more useful modification to make, converting the power to DC is easier on the bulbs, and DC power in general is more useful in this application, but even that's not necessary. There are thousands of these little Doodle bugs running away with AC power lighting the headlight. In the end doing nothing is probably best. No use modifying it, unless you wanted to run say an air pump, or a phone charger

josh Koerner Sweet. It’s nice that your state allows you to register your toys for road use. Here in CA we’re shit out of luck. They go by the vin number which indicates if it’s a street legal or off-road.

Did the predator come with magnets inside the flywheel? Or you swap the old one in the predator212

SbXloc3 The new flywheel doesn’t come with magnets on the inside of it. Magnets on the Outside of the flywheel generate electricity for the spark plug but the inner magnets for the lights.

Am i understanding that u have to use the old flywhel to make to charger coils work? And if u use the new predator flywheel it will not charge?
@michaelgeorge14695 жыл бұрын
The inside of the regular predator flywheel does not have magnetic pick ups for charging coils. That's why it will not charge or work with original predator flywheel. They sell kit on amazon for 90 bucks and comes with everything.

How many volts and watts does that coil put out?
@smallengine5 жыл бұрын
Luke Hansen it puts out an unsteady amount depending on the rpm the engine is running, you will need some kind of current regulator for the amount of voltage you would like.

At full throttle would it run 2 18w lights?
@smallengine5 жыл бұрын
Luke Hansen, probably, you can check the output with a volt meter to see what’s its putting out with normal throttle.

Was there a huge difference in performance between the little 160cc compared to tbe 212cc? I'm redoing a Baja and plan to put a new 212cc on her.
@balabay776 жыл бұрын
Phil Lowman Yes sir, predator engines are well build and usually run great for a while. If they run solid right out of the box and there’s no issues with carb than it’s a keeper. 212 is definitely much more powerful than 163cc. If it makes you feel better about your purchase than get a warranty for it. Good luck and let us know how your motor swap turns out.
@coburnlowman6 жыл бұрын
I've been buying and using these HarborFreight engines since they were Blue color "Grey Hounds". If an old model Briggs gives any trouble at all I'll swap it out for one of these. Its just that I haven't used one of the 212's on anything that you ride for speed. I've only used them for boring old man stuff like garden tractors , garden tillers , wood splitters. The only thing is that they have a super bad habit of cranking on the first or second pull every time. Oh and they have a problem of only burning a small fraction of the gas that Briggs , Kohler burns doing the same job. Predator should give me a royalty check for selling so many of these engines. People will ask me to work on their old small farm stuff. I'll show them the old Grey Hound on the wood splitter and everyone known how hard I use it and even tho the sheet metal pull shroud is falling off and I gotta hold it up so the rope thingy will engage the flywheel to start. After explaining the only thing its had was an ignition coil because its never spent a night inside , well they gladly pay $100.00 for a Preditor and toss the ancient technology they had. But as said I have just never put one on a minibike of go kart.

Phil Lowman Glad to hear those greyhounds are so dependable. I had the same luck with predators but there were 2 engines that ran hard and couldn’t idle properly right out of the box. Returned them and got another engines without any issues. I’m sure Honda’s are better quality but predators work just as well for 1/3 of the price. Cheers.
