Call me Big Boy What exactly is the race card? Can you please explain that to me? Look at the comments by the white commenters on this video and tell if this attack on this African man's pre competition joking comment isnt because he is black. The reality is that society are less forgive of blacks when we are arrogant or overly confident. This African Man is living in white dominated society, he should know that this kind of pre competitive talk should be toned down when whites are involve. Now he is being dehumanised by whites and other non African people because of his ignorance. Anyways, there is so much of the white gaze i can deal with.. Bye..

Exactly how is this black bashing? I saw one opponent vs another. One was trash talking and he lost. The commenter was pointing out that you should humble your self because there's always someone better than you. And I don't see how he's being dehumanized, trust me if it was a white guy trash talking and the black guy keeping quiet, everyone would be saying the same thing. Sure there's a FEW racist comments on this video but this is not one and if you believe so you're a very delusional human being. Look up race card if you really want to know. Bye :)

I am a humble person myself, but weightlifting helps but doesn't mean much when it comes to sports. There are plenty of guys that can outdo me on heavy lifting, but I run circles around them in basketball, football, and track. Plenty of power lifters would make Ali and Tyson look weak on weights, but they'd knock out the power lifter every time in the ring.

Two lessons were learned that day, first, lifting weights makes you stronger than doing calisthenics, and second and more important, humility. You can be and act confident with respect for your opponent.

Alessandro Zuffi he was clearly acting..... its so obvious. Its the powerlifters who often overlook the calisthenics, not the opposite. The powerlifters always have to be the strongest ever otherwise their ego will be hurt, calisthenics its just about having fun we dont overlook other disciplines.

@znjfl
@znjfl 9 жыл бұрын
isolator86 You are just reaching hard at this point. The "egomaniac" that "has to be the strongest" was humble from the get go and claimed it will be a tough challenge, but the actual agomaniac was "just acting"? As for your earlier comment, do tell me since when are pull ups and ring dips a powerlifting excercise? That said tho, the calisthenic guy is clearly a beast and he did better than most people on this planet would.

Hilmi Turan Bench Press, Chin-ups and dips are the benchmarks of upper body strength. The movements in these exercises are not complicated (just push or pull with form) and any one who is doing fitness training should treat these exercises as basic movements, plus the weight on bench press they did was not too heavy for them since Roman can do 20 reps with ease. I think any one who is claiming to be strong must be able to do bench press. Also I strongly believe it's not his first time to do bench press. I think it's also part of his routine, if not, push-ups at the very least. I admit at first I laughed at the cocky calisthenics guy, but I felt sorry for him afterwards. He was embarassed and his ego was devastated. I respect both of them. They are both stronger than most of us. Please don't take this wrong. It's just my honest opinion. :)

***** Depends on the powerlifting competition. With squats, some want parallel, some want below parallel. Deadlifts for instance, sumo or conventional. Benchpress especially, powerlifters will have a HUGE arch just to shorten the range of motion. Don't care for muscle gains. Just want to lift heavy. Body builders and bikini competitors are VERY strict on form and diet. Good muscle definition. Very low bodyfat.

Zero One the idea is to go as below parallel without causing butt-wink until you build enough ankle flexibility. Some also use the ATG squat to 'bounce' out of the bottom which in essence is using momentum to bring the weight up. But of course, when used correctly, ATG is the way to go.

All these butthurt Calisthenics fans crying about it being tailored to the power-lifter.... Um no It's not. What we just witnessed was an endurance workout. All the rep ranges were 15+ And power-lifters almost never work in those rep ranges. Power-lifters primarily work in the 1-5 rep ranges. The bench and squat movements were more related to the power-lifter sure. But the pull-ups and dips were more tailored in calisthenics favor. Seemed like a fair challenge to me. I was rooting for the power-lifter but actually expected the calisthenics man to win because of the endurance required to get through all that. The calisthenics guy had it all backwards when he said "once you understand how to lift your own body weight, I promise you your much stronger than ever and you can lift any other weights" when the reality is that once you can lift 2-4 times your body weight lifting your own weight is easy.

+Jakob Parker While most are saying its power lifter territory, im with you on the rep range. Having said that, im not entirely sure how anyone could possibly think its a powerlifters game? only had bench that was for him.. dips and pull ups? yeah no lol but then again, 100kg bench would be a warm up for the lifter so getting 20 reps out would be easy.

+Jakob Parker You don't even understand simple science of the advantage of having shorter limbs. This wasn't an even match to begin with as the power lifter has shorter limbs. I'm willing to bet they chose someone with shorter limbs intentionally. If you make the match with people with very similar limb ratios the outcome would have been different. This could also be just a show. Regardless of being stronger or weaker there is already numerous scientific evidence that already has proven that powerlifting has a strong link to heart problems and is dangerous as people increase their blood pressure to the point of tearing aortas which has similar effects as having a stroke.

+boba719 Exactly. Don't know why others don't understand this. I am 180 cm/72 kg, so quite slim guy, but I can do 7 reps with 100 kg in bench with WIDE grip (max 117,5 kg). Though I'm smaller, I use about 20-25 cm wider grip than this guy. With such a narrow grip I could hardly do any rep with 100 kg. This calisthenics guy was very inexperienced bench lifter and did not know even how he should lift and really destroyed his changes in the beginning. I have lifted many years with weights, but only started with calisthenics. I have HUGE respect to these guys and can only regret I did not start earlier. With calisthenics you will work out much more your core than in the gym. Try e.g. front lever or human flag and you know what I'm talking about. Trying these, you will also find that your lats, abs and arms aren't so strong that you thought.

Kept circling back to Bertrand (Calisthenics guy) to motivate him; and after he was done, he stood next to him to cheer him on. What is truly great is that none of it seemed patronising at all. The Dude Racism is an amorphous term that is barked out when one ventures beyond the boundaries of political correctness. All people prefer their in-groups, all people are racist. I lived in Asia for ten years, they proudly pronounce their superiority. The weaponized, psychollinguistic term 'racist' does not exist out there. It has now become 'racist' for Whites to organize or assert their interests in any way.It was 'racist' when Avril Lavigne made a Japanese style video, but not 'racist' when Japanese pick up a violin, wear a suit, and play Bach. Hockey is 'racist' when it's too white, but basketball isn't 'racist' when it's 90% black. The term racism continually updates itself, indeed, stories of racism never leave the news cycle, it's a continual campaign of psychological reinforcement. Stories of 'racism' like Paula Deen or Donald Sterling occupy the news cycle for weeks, where as simple multiple mass murders hardly get a mention. It's training. Good think and bad think.

If you are training your body the most common test of your condition is test of strength isn't it? This small competition just proved the theory that exercising with weights makes your body stronger. Just listen to the Bertrand's arrogant statement on the beginning,that is exactly what I don't like about calisthenics they think that if they can do something astonishing on the bars they can beat whole world. After all,if calisthenics built muscles and strength all strongmen would do calisthenics instead of weight lifting.

Is this a joke? Look at the parameters of the challenge. Of course the powerlifter is going to win because the challenge is in essence weight lifting. This makes this challenge not only incredibly unfair, but biased in favor of the powerlifter. It's only logical that the black guy would not be as strong as the powerlifter. One trains with body, the other beyond body. This whole competition is based on exercises beyond body. I'm sure if they went outside, and the black guy challenged the powerlifter to perform moves he does on the bars; the powerlifter would surely fail. Comparing a powerlifter to a street workout is like comparing a sprinter to distance runner. If you challenge a distance runner to a 100m sprint against a sprinter, who's going to win? Obviously the sprinter. So, obviously a POWERlifter is going to have more strength than someone who solely exercises via bodyweight. Everyone in the comment section is saying he got wrecked, and of course, he would get wrecked. You would think calisthenics would overPOWER POWERlifting? The nature of calisthenics, and the nature of powerlifting are two completely different entities alone. The stupidity of this video and most of the commenters alike, is fucking sad...
@CHAPPiiiE
@CHAPPiiiE 9 жыл бұрын
You explained the logic behind exactly what I said. Squat, bench, deadlift are surely tests of raw strength. A sprinter trains in such a way to increase his fast-twitch muscles fibers. A distance runner trains in such a way to train his slow-twitch muscle fibers. You think a man who trains in way of calisthenics will be stronger than a man who trains specifically in way of power? You don't, because you yourself explained how a powerlifter would not be able to perform the same movements as a person who trains in a way of calisthenics. So apply that same logic the other way, and you understand that that's exactly what I said in my previous comment. And, even while on the rings, they still used weight. You just can't compare these two. It's really comparing apples to oranges. A power lifter, by default, will be stronger. That's not rocket science. So, then, what's the point of this video if we all know who would win without even watching it?
@andfiker
@andfiker 9 жыл бұрын
Jonny C. Actually i'd say it was fair. Obviously the Bench Press was the Calisthenics guy's weakest point, so putting it at the beginning when he's at full strength is an advantage to him. Dips and Pull-Ups should have been easy for him, but he clearly doesn't add enough weight to his exercises. Then the Squat is something a bodybuilder, powerlifter or a calisthenics guy should be able to do. If anything, the Calisthenics guy had the bigger advantage, but we saw the powerlifter TEAR through those dips while the calisthenics dude barley finished.
@harleyzeth
@harleyzeth 9 жыл бұрын
+Jonny C. It's a strength challenge. In any calisthenic movement that favors strength over technique, the powerlifter still would have won. Did you see those pullups and dips? Imagine how easy that would have been with just his bodyweight.
@CHAPPiiiE
@CHAPPiiiE 9 жыл бұрын
harleyzeth ***** I understand where you both are coming from, and thank you for your responses. However, the point that I'm getting at is that it is obvious that a powerlifter would surely be stronger than a person who trains in way of calisthenics. Then, as I've said before in previous comment; what's the point of this video if we all know who would win without even the need of watching it?. This the equivalent of making a video of having Usain Bolt race against Jim Ryun in a 100m dash. If we apply very simple logic, we know the winner without the need of the contest in the first place. What I find amusing is the comment section bashing the calisthenics guy as if he even had the possibility of winning.
@harleyzeth
@harleyzeth 9 жыл бұрын

I feel that it is unfair to test a powerlifter vs. a calisthenics guy in powerlifting. Of course the powerlifter won. He is used to training doing that exact thing (benchpress). It doesn't mean he is stronger - just that he is better at that particular workout. What about using real-world strength tests, e.g. rock-climbing? I am sure that both are incredibly strong, but just don't think that the tests they chose were fair to both of them.

@Wataheadable
@Wataheadable 8 жыл бұрын
It's not meant to be fair. It is meant to show you the difference when it comes to gym training. Power lifters are far stronger. You can see that in the bench press. He said it at the beginning, calisthetics is about the small muscles, the ones that assisted in rotations and minor movements. Weight lifting is about the massive muscles - the muscles that do 90% of the work. This is just an outline of the different types of training and how it affects strength. If you want to be ripped and lean, then don't expect to have a huge amount of strength. If you want to lift heavy weights, then you won't be able to carry your own weight as effectively as someone who trains with their own weight.

It looked like he injured his shoulder which is surprising since a lot of bodyweight movements require a healthy and strong shoulder girdle/rotator cuff. Doing only one thing isn't going to make awesome at everything else, but if I were to list a lot of exercises to become a jack of all trades: Snatch and the Clean and Jerk from olympic weightlifting. Squat, Press and Deadlift from general weight training. Pullups, dips, levers and muscle-ups from gymnastics/calisthenics. Do all of these and you're an all-around beast!

The only real way to realistically compare these two would be to let the two of them train for a month before the competition. Calisthenics guy's disadvantage is largely neurological. Kinda like the first month you ever lifted free weights and were almost doubling strength every week. There's so much strength potential there, he just needs to tap into it and actually practice these movements for a bit. Then that'll level the playing field.

Hes not wrong but hes not right either. A human adult weight is no where near light. But that doesnt mean he can lift a 1000 kg. Same goes to weight lifter, they cant lift passed maximum weight a human can lift. Human has limit. But he did prove he can lift any weight that was given in this video tho.

General L The thing about strength in powerlifting is that they train the movement much more than a calisthenics guy would. The European guy definitely does dips and pull ups in his training. Granted, the calisthenics guy was way overconfident in his interview

here's a novel idea? Next episode, let's see the *reverse* with these two same guys. Let's see the power-lifter try to do as many muscle-ups, push ups, handstand pushups, pistols, and body-weight squats compared to the calisthenics specialist? If the power-lifter wins, then there's no question that weights make you stronger than calisthenics. if the power-lifter loses, then this first video proves jack shit.

+Samurai Squat no, as you could see the black guy didn't know bench form so he was doing 3x the range of motion te short guy did and his shoulders went to a crazy deficit, making the exercise harder, he blew his gas tank at the beginning.
@Burog1
@Burog1 9 жыл бұрын
oliskranz That's his problem he agreed to the event if anything he should of practiced the lifts before talking shit. Furthermore he could still do the exercise he got like 10 reps the first set because the bench is a simple compound lift. A muscle up takes practice to even perform 1 for most people. It wouldn't be optimal.

Laughing at that shit talk at the beginning. Obviously the powerlifter was going to smash this challenge. He's got more strength per pound than any calisthenics expert would ever have. The guys training w/ his own bodyweight for multiple reps, he's more like a cool bodybuilder doing more endurance and hypertrophy training than he is a powerlifter...
