Thanks guys I’m in the backyard, practicing the FG- the Uni - my Go to’s ... Braid I love , then FG’in it to the mono leader/ best idea ever/ in NY waiting for the fall run... on the south shore of Long Island... eventually headed up to Skinner Ville” to get my books autographed and Rod signed. I love what you guys teach me. I just placed an order- I tried getting black and white saltstrong logos ... I don’t think I was able to get both in my cart for some reason- I am however supper grateful to be always eager and aware to learn different tactics from professionals like yourselves! I’m super stoked I purchased - ALL of Mr. Skinner’s buck tails - swiveled hook - to the glow every color x2 and bought another investment- the VS-200 - black from J and H tackle - it’s the Indian behind that arrow so I’m grateful to be learning one Video at a time- thank you for the free gifts all the time !! Hard decision to make if one likes PowerPro...does one want longer casting distance of the original PowerPro or better Line Strength with the V2? I'll go with farther distance one can cast every time!

I find the smoothness of the v2 surface casts further and is a lot quite comingbthrough the guide. It must be though them easier on the cast too
@bumblebee40004 жыл бұрын
Considering the super8slick v2 lost in casting distance and won in strength test I think it is thicker. If you find an optical device for checking the real size of a braid then you can take into account one more factor, and the competition will be even fairer.

And, while doing the former, it's Important to find out as to Whether or Not the Super 8 Slick casts Easier & Further when used as Running Line behind the Shooting Head? Thanks again 😊 IF it really does better than the Original Power Pro (In Running thru the guides & Shooting a Longer Distance), then that Can be a Game Changer, since Coated running lines (such as OPST Company's Lazar Running Line) are Much More Expensive!!

I actually tried this at home with dumbbells and I noticed that the line would break a few pounds below the rated test, (50 lb test would break at about 36 lbs, 60 lb at 50 lb, etc.). Also, the line would break in the middle rather than at the knot. Is there a reason for this? Or is there a better way to simulate/test the braid?

@@AthanasiusCM919 I just saw the email... the "GT Knot" that is floating around the internet is not the true GT Knot that won a knot contest years ago... the true GT Knot requires a Bimini Twist to double the braid before then making some wraps that are similar to the FG knot but more difficult to complete. And the total strength being stronger than the FG knot is debatable (it's very close). The more recent versions of the "GT Knot" that consist of a figure 8 style knot on the leader with either a Uni knot or a Clinch knot on the braid side is definitely going to be at least 30% weaker than the FG knot. So for those reasons, I do not recommend any version of the GT Knot.

Flourocarbon needs a direct cutting test. Molecularity it is scale like that resists direct bite offs, I have seen your abrasion test. I have had excellent results with a well placed circle hook and flouro instead of using a usually called for wire rig. I caught my first Muskie today(Felt so sorry for the Bluegill used for bait) No damage to the leader. I fish the salt a bit with similar results with shark and bluefish. Just saying.
@Saltstrong4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the circle hooks are very smart to use when targeting fish with sharp teeth because it significantly increases the odds that the fish gets hook in the corner of the mouth which helps keep the line away from the sharp teeth.

Awesome test ,, your going to have to follow me on this ,, most likely I won't say it right :) Where you fish you are catching Snook ,, Redfish ,, Speckled Trout ,, different size fish ,, in the cast test ,, the OG line got 7' further and I agree with you ,, 7' is a big deal ,, the V2 line did better in the knot test ,, one would think the V2 would be the line to buy and give up that 7' distance the OG line had over the V2 because of knot strength ,, Here is where I may say this wrong lol ,, where I live ,, we catch Trout & Redfish ,, I mainly care more about catching Trout ,, big trout ,, I really don't care if a monster redfish breaks me off or a Snook ,, which we don't have here and a large redfish is about 20" ,, as long as I don't loose the trout because of a knot failing ,, here is my point ,, if the amount of pressure the trout puts on the knot is within the breaking point of the OG line ,, I would rather keep the extra 7' casting distance the OG line gives ,, what I don't know is how much pressure a trout would put on the knot ,, there is no since giving up that 7' ,, if your target fish can't put enough pressure on the knot to break it ,, I understand ,, no one wants a knot to fail ,, but 7' is 7' or I could be over thinking it ,, I do that sometimes lol

How do you know what size line to use each individual fish
@Saltstrong4 жыл бұрын
Depends on multiple variables like how much current you're fishing in, how much structure is in the water that can compromise the line, and how big the fish you're targeting can be. Here's an article that helps determine what to use for the mainline and the leader line: www.saltstrong.com/articles/how-to-tie-a-fishing-leader-for-snook-redfish-seatrout/

Someone explain how exactly does line labeling work in US. For example, these braids are both labeled "10 pounds, 0,15mm" in usa. However, powerpro 0,15 has breaking strength of 9kg, so why is it labeled as 10 pounds which would be 4,5kg, when in fact they should be 19,8 lb 0,15mm? It makes no sense whatsoever.

Great test. What impressed me most is the strength of the line almost doubling. It tells me that for bottom fishing here in the North East for fluke, for example, I can use 10 LB Power Pro and 15 or 20 pound fluorocarbon as a leader with confidence that the 10 pound is going to perform at 17 pound or 20 pound test strength. Did I understand that correctly? That means I can get to the bottom faster with less weight and whole bottom in stronger current with less weight. Thx
