Craig McCracken is actually under contract with Disney, so he can't work on this show until whenever it expires. CN actually asked Craig to work on this reboot, but his contract prevented him. He is currently working on another pitch for Disney.

I'd Say Teen Titans Go! is more of a bunch of teens digging up a corpse and doing a Weekend at Bernies impression and the PPG reboot is more of a bunch of execs burying up a corpse, removing the breasts of the corpse, and reanimating the corpse a la Frankenstein's Monster and pretending the person came back to life, except with more animation errors.

The main thing with reboots is about the same as with adaptations, the greater the original was, the harder it will be to live up to that. My main problem with the episodes I've seen is basically what PieGuy said, that the show just has no bite or "edge" to it at all. The original PPG wasn't afraid to be dark, mean-spirited, or subversive if it felt like it was going to serve the story, even just the fact that it was these little girls engaging in all this violence was already interesting. But this reboot? It feels completely toothless. People are comparing it to the other shows on CN right now, and in terms of art style I'd agree, but it is completely inferior to both Steven Universe and Adventure Time even on its own merits. Both of those shows are consistently funnier, have more of an edge to them, entertaining characters, development, a STORY, etc. This show has a few ok jokes, but barring that it just offers very little. It's not offensively bad by any means but is just terribly bland.

If they were trying to make it super light and fluffy and cutesy, they shouldn't include any fighting. But including some and not keeping with the original dark things the original had just feels... Meh. They don't have any of it. It's stuck in the middle and it feels lazy. I one hundred percent agree with you.

story isn't everything I actually don't like AT or SU but the best show is TWOG and WBB are OK and Good shows TTG PPG2016 are the better of them because they are Comedies and that is what I look for Gravity Falls however gets a free pass I Love it

Honestly as much as I want to like this new series, it is just sad. The most insulting portion is the bellum fiasco. I agree with both of you. While I wouldn't have had necessarily a problem if they just didn't include her in the new show at all, the fact that they referenced her, gave her a BULLSHIT departure excuse (which only stands to make me think of that SpongeBob episode w/ a similar premise, but actually had that BE the conflict) AND an outside world excuse which shows they clearly do not or do not want to understand what made her character so good in the first place, just comes off as so insulting to me. I feel so sorry for kids of this generation, because if they really want to watch the Powerpuff Girls in action they should just watch the original cartoon. I can only imagine what Craig McCracken thinks of the new show. Or even the three original VAs of the girls (who, despite their complaining of not being asked to return, might've actually dodged a bullet)

The way I see it is that if they had just never had her appear at all, then people who like the show, and the original, would be asking for that. And when the people working on the reboot continuously deny them their request without any real reason: viewership goes down. People will tell their friends, "oh, don't watch that show, it treats its fandom like crap." Fans of shows can be very resilient with their demands because they want something that they believe is important or significant in some way to be there. And more often than not it actually isn't important at all, that's just what they want. (believe me I have seen some of the worst that these people can do)

PPG16's going for like a light happy fun show that places like tumblr would like but it fails because it doesn't understand what it even is trying to be. TTG knows what it is, that being that it's stupid, and sorta has a self awareness to how dumb it is because of that but PPG doesn't, plus it has no self awareness.

So, at this point, it's clear people don't like the new Powerpuff Girls reboot. I can definitely see why. It's not awful, but it's painfully bland. People are complaining about memes, Ms. Bellum leaving, and that transgender episode. But I don't think many people are discussing the real problems with the show. The real problem with The Powerpuff Girls 2016, is that it tries to be everything to everyone, but fails to do anything particularly well. It took me a while to notice this, but yeah, this show's biggest problem is that it's trying to bite off more than it can chew. Their first mistake was setting the show in the same continuity as the OG series. I would be fine if this was a sperate universe like Powerpuff Girls Z, but no, it's the same universe as the old show. Because of this, they have to explain a lot of the changes made to the show in universe, like how the girls got to a new school, why Miss Bellum isn't there, etc. I get why they did this, it's an attempt to make it authentic to the OG series, but I don't think reusing the same universe was the best approach. This brings me to mistake #2, it tries way too hard to be the old series, yet it lacks the creative spark the old show had. They even go as far as to recycle plots from the old series. Again, I get they want to be as close as they can to the old show, but don't just copy-paste what's already been done if you do nothing unique with it. Speaking of which, Sin number 3 is the new stuff they added. It's either dated, poorly done, or been there done that by other, much better Cartoons, or sometimes, all three at once. Look, cartoons like Steven Universe have tastefully handled serious topics like lesbian relationships. But just because Steven Universe can do it, doesn't mean you're capable of doing it. Same with the other things they try to do. I've already seen the Surrealism Adventure Time, the character interactions and sibling rivalry of Gravity Falls, the Superhero girl power of Star Vs the Forces of Evil, the topical modern day humor of We Bare Bears, the morals of MLP, the slice off life kid shenanigans of Harvey Beaks, even the whispering and visual gags have been done by Teen Titans Go! All of these have been done better by other current cartoons. If want to be a greatest hits collection fine, but don't just include every joke, style, and story technique of every current Cartoon known to man just because "I dunno, everyone else is doing it" That brings me to the biggest problem, this show lacks a clear identity. Add I mentioned before, it's trying to be everything to everyone, but it ends up pleasing nobody. As a result, the show lacks a clear vision. As bad as TTG! is, it at least had a clear focus for what it wants to do. This doesn't. What we instead get is a nutered mess that can't decide if it's a reboot, sequel, reimagining, or its own thing. It's basically just the old PPG, but with less action, comedy, and creativity. So that's what's REALLY wrong with PPG 2016. On it's own, it's an average, if bland and unpolished series. But as a reboot, it feels like a hollow imitation with nothing else going for it. As for how the show can improve? The answer is super easy, just be yourself. Don't try and be the old show, and a mash up of current Cartoon trends at once, tell your own stories, trail your own path, take the characters in the direction you want to take them in. Yeah, that's a big risk, but hey, you would at least end up with a much more interesting show. PPG Z did it, and while I can't say it's a good series, it's at least different.

***** True, but I think you said it better than I did. I will say this though. I dislike the mindless bashing the show gets from commenters. It's fine to not like the show, it's fine to rightfully criticize it like you did. But I personally don't like the one-dimensional knee-jerk reactions people give. "Oh it has twerking" "oh it has smartphones and memes" those are issues, but there's alot more wrong with it than just those complaints. You and Pan Pizza are people who gave a fair critique of the show, actually delving into the REAL reasons it falls short, rather than just blow minor problems out of proportion, or bringing up something, but not going into depth. This is the reason I didn't like PaleoSteno's review. He said things like "oh this was handled poorly" but didn't really explain why, or just complained about very petty nitpicks. Like you said, based upon the interviews with the producers, It gives the impression they would rather be making their own show rather making what the network dictates. And, I agree. For example, Julia Vickerman, a storyboard artist for the show is trying to get her own series off the ground called Twelve Forever. The pilot is on KZbin if you want to check it out, and it's actually really good. It's funny, it's creative, and it feels like it's trying to do it's own thing without having a previous property to leech off of. Another example, though doesn't really have to do with the reboot. Chris Savino. He took over as show runner for the OG series' last 2 seasons, and they weren't very good as you know. But his new show for Nickelodeon, The Loud House is the best thing to come out of Nick in years. Because again, it's crafting it's own style, rather than trying to imitate someone else's. So it's easy to blame the people working on the show, and while some of it is justified, a lot of it also has to do with executive meddling on the network's part. For example, The producers admitted that they wanted to get the original voice actors for the girls back, but the network said no, get new voice actors because they thought it would give it a new tone and energy. So yeah, really as you and I said, a lot of this show's problems can easily be fixed by just doing it's own thing. It may not be necessarily good, but hey, it at least be more interesting than their current "DO ALL THE THINGS!" approach.

The thing is I want to like this new show, because of the original. But seeing the memes (and other pop culture trends), flanderization of characters (and other bad writing decisions), and less edge, I'm not sure I can. At best the show is ok and can be funny. At worst it's filled with out dated pop culture trends and tries too hard to be cute, which ends up not being funny because there is no action to juxtapose it. It didnt have to be like this, though. They could have fixed these things. I agree, it can still be a good show, if they put the effort in to fix it, and listen to what people want.

The professor falling in love with a woman who turned out to be a spider? Yeah, for me that has a slightly different idea behind it. There is an old mythology from Japan that is similar in a few ways. The story goes that there was a woman who was amazingly beautiful and lived out in the middle of nowhere. Whenever a man would happen to pass by her home, she would seduce him with her beauty and bring him inside. She would cook him a meal, give him great hospitality, and be as nice as possible. Then when he was deemed "ready" she turned into her true form (a giant spider) and ate him. By the way, the story was basically known as "The Story of the Prostitute Spider." I am 100% certain that this myth was not the basis for the episode you were talking about but it reminded me of that. So, for me, that plot is infinitely more disturbing than they intended.

Okay, the Spanish homework No Me Gusta thing would have made sense. Like have Mitch or Buttercup have trouble with his homework and when he turns it in, Ms. Keen sees that he's put no me gusta for an answer on something that was like 'what is the Spanish word for broccoli' and then Buttercup would reply 'Well, I got it PART right! Who likes broccoli!?' As for the sugar rush joke, that was more or less a parody of The Hangover WHICH has been done on kids' shows before YEARS ago back when the first movie came out and it was cool to reference things like that. As for Man-Boy...after watching it, I think it wold have been funny had he actually been a little boy around the girl's age and his entire thing was he was trying to be super big and powerful like his big lumberjack father who is....like 100 ft tall but as it turns out his dad ends up being the one who stops him and tells him being a man WASN'T what he was doing and he missed the point so in the end, he is told to be a man by doing the right thing and STOP trying too hard to be 'tough' and destructive for no reason. That's just my rethinking on it as not to make it a rehash of an older episode. As for the pickle joke, apparently a lot of people think t had something to do with penises due to the apparent transgender unicorn thing? I don't know. The whole episode was fucking stupid.

Kind of sounds like there's a problem with "this show couldn't be made today" in terms of how they're trying to not be offensive. When I look back at a lot of series (Steven Spielberg cartoons in particular), I think "this could not be made today," at least for children. Ren and Stimpy with all the violence and innuendos, Rocco's Modern Life for the same reason, Samurai Jack with the violence, Tiny Toons had an episode that features characters predominantly smoking, etc. And now PPG 2016 is an example of what happens when you try to make an "edgy" cartoon from 15 years ago today.

What really puffles my jigglies about the Miss Bellum thing is that, in the 90's PPG was breaking grounds and being basically offensive, it fell under protest to concerned parents and people who threatened the staff. The new show, disguises itself by saying they're breaking grounds and being progressive, with some articles praising it as being feminist and whatnot. At the same time I think it's funny Miss Bellum was kinda that character that was offensive in some ways, in an age where music, games and movies were considered satanic and offensive for sexual content and whatnot. Nowadays the issues are considered even MORE offensive AND the director lacks the balls to tackle those issues. We'll never see a character like Femme Fatale make a return, because it's just more PC and easier to make fun Manboy. I kinda see this new show as basically the 90's show, but censored and dumbed down having fallen to the demands of the complaining people.

I haven't seen the show yet, but if they fixed the problems, main one being how the girls act and flesh out the villains more then I think we'll have something that I can still enjoy on a week to week basis because I love the characters from before and how they interact with each other.

the problem that these quazi-reboots are having these days is that they want to be a sequel and a reboot at the same time. as they say, you can't have your cake and eat it too. either make a completely new universe to make a completely new story with the established characters, or research the source materials and make it faithful. the many, MANY iterations of Batman each work as their own thing because they're not trying to be the sequel to the last Batman series, but yet they all feel like Batman. even the quirkier series like Brave and the Bold, there's a clear love and attention put into the show to be it's own thing whilst STILL being Batman. Teen Titans Go doesn't work because it's using the same character designs albiet simplified, the same setting, and yet flip-flops on whether or not it wants to be its own thing, or piggyback off of the source's success. it's a MESS. the less I go into the arrogance of the creators the better. that's not what I'm posting about. Justice League worked as a Sequel to both Batman AND Superman's Animated Series as it clearly followed the rules and occurrences from the previous series' to a Tee and made sure not to make mistakes. Batman Beyond worked as a Sequel because it had the same rules as the parent series (Batman TAS) and yet used a tight continuity with Justice League and various other DCAU shows to make it feel tightly interwoven with the other shows in its canon. Xiaolin Chronicles doesn't work because they're blatantly using the setting of the original show, the characters of the original show, things that have happened in the original show. it WANTS to be a sequel, but it's forced to be a reboot because of certain copyright issues that I can't explain here. the inconsistencies are WAY too jarring to those who loved the original series, and yet new people are left FAR too lost since it's blatantly a sequel. Powerpuff 2016 follows a similar, yet opposite problem. it WANTS to be a reboot. it WANTS to be its own thing. and yet it's being shackled by Corporate to being a Sequel. the tone is far more "Girl Friendly" by using what Corporate thinks girls like. that's why there's less violence. "Girls dislike violence." the humor's toned down because "Girls don't like THAT kind of humor." "Girls like memes.", so there's memes stapled to the show. "Girls like twerking", so they have 6 year olds twerking with a panda bear. "Girls like pop culture", so they use hideously outdated pop-culture references. tl;dr: Fuck the Girl-Show Ghetto.

Do an episode on Powerpuff Girls Z. That actually makes a lot of sense that Princess would be the main villain for the reboot. Mojo Jojo was the main villain in the original, Him was the main villain in Z, so it would make sense that they would have another villain of the series as the main villain in the reboot.

What doesn't make sense is that Miss Bellum (for the brief appearance she had), the fashionista lady, and maybe even the spider lady had boobs but Miss Keen isn't allowed to have any? Unless we get an episode where we find out Miss Keen is trans or had breast cancer, I'm just going to assume the character designers either don't think it's appropriate to give teachers boobs(?) or that they forgot she had them in the first place.

Why this show is a huge issue and why "modernizing" doesn't work as a argument. 1) Same name and world. It's a Soft Reboot. They are banking on the fact parents see the name and the girls, and remember the show. "oh i loved this! Im sure my child will too!" They are hoping that nostalgia alone will sell the toys. Now, why did i mention "Soft Reboot" It's trying to continue the continuity, but also resetting other aspects. Like Miss Bellum. You know shes gone, they felt she was "too sexy" 1000 days, Bullshit. 2) the style. The girls look fine. BUT Craig made them with a purpose in mind: Cute little girls, in a dangerous sharp world. Being heroes. If you look at it, the contrast shows, Everyone (even the professor) has Sharp points on them. Villains, the backgrounds. only the girls were perfectly rounded. The new show? Cute little girls.. in a cute round world where everything is hunky dory. the worst is the lack of heroics they do. "Oh a monster, Here lemme selfie" The fuck happened? Why hasn't anyone learned this yet? EXAGGERATING a characters trait to max, doesn't fucking work. Sonic Boom did this, look at that travesty. But whats worse? they changed so fucking much. WHY IS BUBBLES WANTING TO FIGHT A BULL SHES A ANIMAL LOVER. WHY IS BLOSSOM ASKING FOR QUIZZES On top of this: They reused some episode ideas. Like Buttercup's Rage, and controlling it. Now if this is a soft reboot, THAT SHIT DONT WORK. How old are they? Middle school but with miss keeane still? Just no... 5) other The villains feel like fucking overglorifed neighbors, what happened to fucking Mojo? A new female character (whos name escapes me) That feels like a love interest to the professor and a mom to the girls. A female fuzzy lumpkins.. why not just use him..? ANIMATION ERRORS OUT THE ASS, Come on, fucking do better. QA your shit. Am I the only one tired of "whispers" to try and be a joke or be serious? (I.E the episode where buttercup joins the derby girls, -ohey reusing her joining a gang- and in the end they whisper "Skatesss..." as she leaves. they do this too much) memes.. The only real improvement I've seen is Princess Morbucks. this seems more like how'd i expect her to be All in all, It's a shell of its former self. the overall feel i get from this show is simple Where the original felt like a show, that spawned merchandise and fame. this feels like the merchandise spawned the show. I'm surprised so many people like the 'Green Lanturn' powers, I really hated them and thats before I learned they were there purely to sell toys. I actually quite liked Manboy and I loved space towtruck, thats probably the best addition. The trouble is because they changed the focus of the show from fighting to slice of life its just uninteresting and any good villains they make are as irrelevant as the old ones. This show makes me appreciate Teen Titans GO!... At least that show is a complete departure from the source material and is a straight up parody/comedy. Even if all the jokes don't land, at least they are committed. This reboot is just... Teen Titans GO! feels like a show written by people with a vague understanding of comedy and a decent knowledge of the DC universe. PPG 2016 feels like it is written by out of touch suits trying to be hip with the kids and SJWs of the modern era. Cheap humor that won't stand the test of time and huge pandering in it's messages.

I'm in the minority for this show. I don't find it good, but I don't think that it's as terrible as people (including you) are making it out to be. The show does have flaws, my biggest problem being that this show is generic and it has to find its identity. I still find it better than TTG, since this show isn't dumbed down to that level and I can at least enjoy this show, at times.

However my main criticisms with this show that most of the old villains felt neutered, the girls are somewhat less heroic, and the girls are pretty much weak without one or another. Also, when they tried to make it suspenseful when something bad happens to them by making it look like they died, but it falls flat on its face because they can survive acid, bullets, magma/lava, outer space, etc. So why should this be any different?
