I bought the truck that was in the video big ugly that turned into big sexy. My hats off to Bill and Mike. Mike is one hell of a tech. I've had some small issues with my truck and they have handled it above and beyond taking care of those issues. They do stand behind their product. I know that if I had bought my truck from a used car salesman elsewhere, if I did call them with problems. I would have been directly told that you bought that truck as is and they would have gotten a big chuckle out of it. But that's not how bill and his business practices work, he stands behind his product and his work and I am truly impressed. Impressed enough I'm going to buy another one from them.

You can’t expect someone or any dealership to be responsible for what happens to a used truck. It makes no sense. Dealerships get the trucks in just like they are. They don’t go causing injectors seals to leak or have to fix anything on a used vehicle. Hell I bought a 2012 6.7L & 3 weeks after I smelled coolant. Never seen it drip or could find a leak. So I googled the problem & there it was. One after the other. Said the same thing. Even back through the 6.4L . Bottom driver side corner & there it was. They mounted the radiator to the frame so when you go across an uneven surface that twists on the truck it twist the radiator & splits the seem then it leaks. I bought a warranty so instead of $1800 it cost me $200. Most change the oil & filter & there’s no problem then someone buys the truck & who knows how they drive or treat the truck. Plus they are machines & machines parts wear out. How can you expect a dealership to be anymore liable than the new owner. That’s why they offer a warranty. This guy was well beyond doing his responsibilities for this truck. Then he is out all the money for sending parts not needed because the customer took it to a mechanic he chose. I’m sorry but I would have told this guy to kick rocks because there’s NO WAY anyone who buys a used vehicle should expect a salesman or dealership or anyone to be responsible for that truck as soon as it leaves. All that & the customer doesn’t want the truck. Well too bad you can trade it in & get about whatever he spent on parts & labor plus pay so much per mile for wear per say. He would go broke if he does this much at all.

Its a shame. Even in gas burner land, you don't know how many times I have seen vehicles that have VVT codes, that they have changed solenoids, cam gears, timing chains, etc, but never checked the oil. Anytime I troubleshoot something, I seldom start with a scan tool. OBD2 codes can really have you chasing your tail sometimes, and I'd rather approach it from a symptom cause/effect angle. One thing these "plug-in" technicians never learn, is that OBD2 codes are just clues. I have yet to see a code that 100% means change such and such part, and its fixed.

I think you’re a excellent business owner who cares about their job and takes pride in their work. I do HVAC and I see two different type of techs. Ones that care and Ones that don’t. The ones that do care Fix the broken part and check over top to bottom full operation pressures, temps, amps etc. Then I see techs just change the broken part and run. Sometimes it just takes an extra set of eyes to pinpoint the problem. We are all human and all can make mistakes. I would recommend fwd this video to that tech that worked on that truck in California and that previous owner just to prove all these facts and clear your name. Great job with the video and diagnosis. Keep that mechanic you’ve got in this video. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Bill you're a blessing, I have a 2012 Ford F350 6 7 35000 miles on it, just replace the fuel entire fuel system!! That was around 29000 miles due to water in fuel!! Not covered under warranty it was my bad!! October it was out of warranty, but before that check engine light was on, took it to the dealer still under warranty, they had it for a month, told me that regen box was the problem and I would have to gut it, do EGR Delete!! So here we be in March out of warranty, 35000 miles, I do an oil change get 26 quarts of oil out of it, I was shocked, I called the dealer mechanics that I knew, I even got on KZbin, you didn't have a video on that then, but anyway installed a new filter, put in 13 and a half quarts of the recommended for 10:40, change the fuel filters, and away I went, 3 days later driving normal pace engine starts knocking, in my Infinite Wisdom I assumed it was a connecting rod, dealers trying to tell me broken crankshaft LOL the serpentine belt is going round and round up front!! And then if the truck is in gear forward or reverse you can move it back and forth!! Broken crankshaft?? So on way, Ford claims out of warranty too bad!! Dealership has not identified what caused the problem to have that much fuel in the oil!! I think these less than qualified people did not do it full diagnostic whether it's the ejection pump or injectors or whatever else they should have checked for as certified Ford technicians, that enables a Ford dealership to charge you$75 to $125 an hour 4 set individual to work on your vehicle!!, it has now been sitting at the Ford dealership for a month plus, I got one phone call stating that for them to pursue it any further I take the risk of it costing me more money, but if it's something that they're at fault for that it would be covered under the warranty after all!! This sounds like a lot of BS to me!! I would think these people who are relatively intelligent would identify what the problem is first of all!! Before presenting me with the remedy???!! Would you not agree? They want between 11000 to 16000 to replace the motor that we are not sure of why it failed, but I'm sure they would want to tell me that it was leaking injectors that were the culprit if that were the case as they're putting the new motor in!! Right bill lol lol, don't bother answering!! What to do please advise, I have purchased four of these F-350 Super Duty trucks since 2004!! I don't want to ride on Ford, I like the trucks, I think they do a pretty decent job, putting out a quality product for the most part as long as the customers wanted cough up the Bucks!! But like the saying goes if you want to play you got to pay and sometimes I think they're just big toys that's guys got to have!! But in this case if I did something negligent on my part, I'd suck it up like a big boy and roll with the punches, but I just don't see it here I did everything I was told to do, when I left the check engine light on after they had it for a month I was told the truck would sooner or later stop running, not that it would freaking blow up and self destruct I should have sent it that's a pretty long one

Your explanation of cooling systems and the computer system helped me get my truck in great running order. Just bought an 03 350 super duty steak bed truck with 180,000. Cab is rust free,engine has been studded,egr deleted,not sure what else has been done. I changed all filters and fluids. I also changed air filter. I'm impressed with the truck ...seems to run great. My only issue is fuel mileage...only getting about 11 mpg. Wondering if an STC tune will help that?

I mean, I realize how hard it is to train while you're in a hurry, but you've trained several, haven't you? I bet if you put out a video talking about "If you're a diesel mechanic, we're offering a course in how WE do things", I bet you'd have such a response that it would blow your mind. Or, even just a garden variety mechanic. You could have a class of X amount of students per year, and they'd have to sign agreements to work for you for a certain amount of time, etc.

With so much incompetence in the Diesel industry (that you find daily, and share your frustrations about), I'm just thinking that this is something that is sorely needed. Maybe after a certain amount of time, you could become THE program that all powerstroke techs have to go through in order to work at any reputable shop or maybe even DEALER. Sky's the limit.

I like these videos that tell's you to look for the obvious and check the little things first before spending thousands of dollars on repairs, or as in this case, Fuel Injectors. I totally understand the customer dumping the truck. He takes the truck to Specialist, spent lots of money, only to find out the truck oil level was overfilled. Wow. But on the other hand, the Own should have been checking the oil too. I check my oil at every fuel fill-up and I suggest everyone take that extra minute to do the same. Check oil level and viscosity. Also; in the video, did you say it was a 2005 6.4L.? Didn't know they made a 6.4L in 2005, thought they only made the 6.0L. diesel. Just curious, at the end of the day, what was the total cost for this repair? Great Video Bill & Mike. Keep e-mailing them.

Maybe this tech tip can help a few people out. I learned this from the Briggs and Stratton guys. When the oil is hard to read on the stick, say it’s a shiny metal one , take a black sharpie and “paint” it. It does make the level easier to see.

And as far as I can tell Bill did everything he could and than some to make it right. I can assure you with pen point accuracy this same scenario is being played out with someone else who brought a truck from some other dealership or shop and the owner was told to go pound sand.

Not that it's going to help, but advice on how to properly short stick it should be in the owner's manual. Price you pay unwittingly when they change the design of a dipstick. When oil is at the top of the indicator one should start short sticking it until the actual level is known. Short sticking it is a term from the days of full service gas stations where you ask the attendant to check the oil. He short sticks it, shows you the low oil level on the dipstick and sells you a quart of oil you don't really need. This type of dipstick just can't be trusted unless you see the dry part, so easily not even considered too, Mike is brilliant. Now I am too, thanks for that.

Those style dipsticks have always been hard to read. You never get correct reading they have them in transmission dipstick stew very hard to read best thing to do is put some kind of paint about 8 to 10 in up the stick from the bottom help you read correct level

Most of the time when checking the oil level in a diesel, even just after changing the oil, the color of the oil has already turned very dark. That oil they checked looked like it came out of a gasoline engine. You could also tell the oil was thin when the wind was blowing and there were waves forming inside the bucket.

Poor mike he looks totally frazzled out exhausted and kinda dazed from going like crazy. Hope you can find a couple more great guys like mike to let the poor guy breath and enjoy the days better. And wow, you went beyond the call on making a customer happy, you might have to rethink the warranty you do that requires the customer from wherever its new home is to bring the truck to you for warranty, no outside hacks

The crank shaft must have been paddling through the oil , causing power loss and major foaming of the oil. I am surprised the engine did not blow out all the crank seals..

I absolutely love your videos! Your techs are top notch and I would be absolutely willing to allow you all to work on my truck any day of the week, however I am a diesel mechanic myself lol. I can't wait to get my Powerstroke Diesel. I do however have 1 question for you......can you please tell me what software problem you are using in the diagnosis??? I am very interested in getting it myself. Thanks and God Bless you, your families, your techs, and your business.

So an injector may have gotten pinched and then an injector set was put in. The injector set fixed half the problem it just needed an oil change. Too bad it had to be sent all the way back to figure that out.

Bill, I have been having the same issue with my 2005 6.0. My last 3 oil samples have come back 4% to 8% fuel dilution. I bought the truck when it had 83000 miles on it it currently has 158000 miles. I don’t believe the injectors have ever been changed. I tried the fuel dye test and didn’t get anything on top of the valve covers around the injectors. I went ahead changed the injector Orings and drove it about 1000 miles and did another oil sample. It also came back around 4% fuel dilution. I’m at a loss at what it could be any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Chance Norton Is it possible unburned fuel is getting past the piston rings into the crankcase?
@chancenorton7136
@chancenorton7136 6 жыл бұрын
FredFlintstone21 That is a possibility. I think it could be happening when it sits overnight. Maybe a leaky injector. Fuel leaking out of the injector nozzle and going past the rings into the crankcase. I just don’t know how to test for that. Might just end up putting a set of injectors in it.

Bill, I need your help, i picked up an 04 250 with the 6.0 for cheap because it had motor work to be done... The previous owner had the turbo fail, it melted the exhaust turbine and sheared the shaft off flush with the brass bearing, then he only drove it just to move it to mow the grass for a bit, so it gunked the exhaust up, i changed the turbo, I’ve cleaned the EBP sensor and tube back to the exhaust, and now that im finally driving it, i have a very bad chug i guess i would call it, in last gear only for the first five minutes under load it feels as though the motors throwing a rod everywhere through the block its such a violent shake, im wondering if a sticking injector could be that violent? is there another sensor that could be plugged from the turbo blowing and him running it while blown? could this just be with the transmission? the temps are always up before any hwy driving too, and if i hit the tow haul button and shift down immediately it disappears, so i feel like its not an injector, im at a loss and i have a big trip coming up, i want to take it, help clean it out maybe, but not if this is transmission related, what do you think it could be?

How much of a threat is there of a runaway engine when the oil is diluted with fuel? Id think if the intake system breathes in enough crankcase vapor the engine will not shut down but instead burn itself out.
@sean8662

With that extreme over fill of oil it could have been getting churned by the crank and getting air ated and possibly in a sense (cavitate) in the pump or just churn once it makes it to the the pump rather than a liquid actually being pumped properly through the system
