*Personalities are not rigid. An introvert can become an extrovert and vice versa. Being mindful about your traits is how you can change and improve. Ambiversion is the golden mean. Balance is always important.*
@cortwetherald8766

If I understand correctly, personality theory doesn't say people are rigid and immovable in their behavior, but that through some combination of genetics and experience, we have a place we feel most comfortable being. It tends to be exhausting to function outside of your comfortable area. Through exposure we may be able to widen our comrtable area, and that's really advised. However, there's still a most comfortable point that we prefer. It might be changable over long periods of time, but it's probably best to think of it as fixed, and what changes is our tolerance for operating outside of it. I've found that thinking about people this way is really helpful to not be so judgemental, which I have a proclivity to do, being high in conscientiousness. I don't get annoyed with myself or with my wife when I want to go to the new restaurant and she doesn't because I'm much higher than her in openness. Being high in openness is great because new things are sometimes fantastic. Being low in openness is great because new things usually aren't fantastic and usually are terrible.

@@cortwetherald8766 What I am trying to say, I don't buy "I am shy" argument or "I need people around me at all times". those are mind made excuses. I think definitely that you should watch the video on introversion and extraversion - share your thoughts

I certainly don't buy "I'm shy, so I can't." But I do buy "I'm shy, so I don't want to. And, through conscious will power I can force myself. And hopefully, with exposure, my tolerance will increase. But, without good reason, I'd still rather not"
@edi9892
@edi9892 5 жыл бұрын
I´m not shy at all, but I get nuts when I´m crammed into a room with many people. It totally stresses me out and unlike extroverts, I can´t relax with small-talk or other BS. On the other hand, I could spend a month without talking to anyone, which would drive most extroverts crazy.

If you tested me at my best (writing or performing) you might mistake me for a genius; if you tested me when I was studying my frustrations/ADD might skew the results, if you tested me in the middle of a mental breakdown you might think me hopeless so I reject your much vaunted test mate. Yes, it might hold some value but it certainly needs a lot more work.

It is important to distinguish the extend to which the trait theory can be used. Can it be used to know yourself in depth? No. Can it be used to sort a massive amount of people according to their traits concerning a job opening in a certain point of time? Yes. As far as it is a good theory with a lot of data backing it up, it cannot account to changes in context, culture and biology (ie hormonal changes, brain trauma etc) a person might experience throughout its life.
@CanteburyJones
@CanteburyJones 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly but that is not what this is about. They teach what is existing and our opinions don’t weigh heavily because we have not tested our theories and that takes a lot of guts, money and schooling. I wish we could have more of us in research

Culture represents a lot in other people when taking action. It’s easy to say, “That’s not normal!” to someone who’s in a different culture. However, every society has their norms and learning these can benefit their society and the spread of it. Nonacceptance is what caused the racism and madness.

The videos are very informative and helpful. If he slowed down his peach just a tad, more people would be able to assimilate what he is saying. Although English is my native language, I really do want to seriously learn, not just hear. Often I feel the need to go back 10 second, listen again, then hit pause shortly thereafter to give myself time to internalize what he has just said. 😮

I like your stuff but your 3 in 1 personality has vague questions and the results are inaccurate. For instance, how can I score high in conscientiousness and low in agreeableness but still get ISFP for my MBTI, since low agreeableness usually correlate with Thinking (T) rather than Feeling (F) and high in conscientiousness is related to Judging (J) rather than Perceiving (P). You can improve on the questions asked by your free 3 in 1 test. Thank you!!

Thanks for your feedback :) I'm already collecting a ton of data with the first 2 videos, so it'll be awesome to take a look at all the results after the series is finished. I see your point though
@ChPonsard
@ChPonsard 4 жыл бұрын
On the ISFP thing: yes, conscientiousness is associated with the judging function. In an ISFP a judging function is actually the most dominant one, namely introverted feeling, Fi, coming before extraverted sensing (Se), introverted intuition (Ni), and extraverted thinking (Te).

Somewhat related, could you talk about the angel wh0re dilemma? I never understood the appeal of cheap women, but I do have a thing for bad girls. The one thing I realised is that there are some traits I find very attractive, but they usually come together in a bundle with some pretty bad traits. For example, if you want a girl with whom you could steal horses, she´ll probably have a history of being in conflict with the law... Similarly, most traits of TV badasses and action heroes would make piss-poor parents as their traits are often accompanied by other traits from antisocial personality disorder...

Extroversion is the tendency to experience positive emotions Neuroticism is the tendency to experience negative emotions You are completely wrong describing neuroticism as "an individual's emotions fluctuate more than normal" How much one's emotions fluctuate has nothing to do solely with neuroticism or extroversion.
@willieboy8798
@willieboy8798 3 жыл бұрын
no he isnt!!!! psychology is neuroticism. Individuals who score high on neuroticism are more likely than average to be moody and to experience such feelings as anxiety, worry, fear, anger, frustration, envy, jealousy, guilt, depressed mood, and loneliness. People who are neurotic respond worse to stressors and are more likely to interpret ordinary situations as threatening and minor frustrations as hopelessly difficult. They are often self-conscious and shy, and they may have trouble controlling urges and delaying gratification. another amatuer doctor!

The Myers-Briggs is definitely worth mentioning, and Jung is always good, but the Enneagram and four humors? Seems like this kid is focusing on psychometrics that psychologists actually use today, so I see why he left them out. They're not scientifically valid. The main tests today are the Big 5 he mentioned and the MMPI-2. My Personality Psych class did the MMPI-2 on our prof and it's pretty revealing.
