What are prebiotics and probiotics? Prebiotics are food components that microbes break down and use as energy while providing beneficial compounds like short-chain fatty acids for our bodies to use. Probiotics are live microorganisms that have been shown to be beneficial to health. They’re found in foods like fermented dairy products as well as dietary supplements. If you liked this video, you may also want to know that there are advantages and disadvantages to taking soil-based probiotics. For example, soil-based probiotics are more spore-forming. The spore creates a protective barrier so that the microorganisms are more likely to travel through the stomach without being destroyed by stomach acid. So they are more likely to attach in the gut, and be effective. On the other hand, this can be a negative if the microorganism causes an infection, because it is then more resistant to an antibiotic that may be needed to treat the infection!

I have been told to take probiotics capsules immediately after waking up as pyloric sphincter in digestive system is open in morning, so water stays in stomach for very short period. Hence action of digestive juices on probiotics is minimal.this ensures that large amount of bacterium reach intestines. Is it true?

If you liked this video, you may also want to know that when buying a probiotic, it's important to look for probiotics that have genus, species, and strain on the bottle. This is important because two different strains can provide two different health benefits! So how do you know that you're taking the probiotic most applicable to your personal health if you don't have all of the information?!

We do know that depending on the Firmicutes/ Bacteroidetes ratio you are more likely to be obese. The linkage with some mental health diseases are a bit murky. I know that because I wrote a book on this subject summarizing a lot of the recent technical literature.

It appears like Probiotics are only sensible to consume if one is also consuming their constituent prebiotic. Aka. If you don’t provide food for the probiotic bacteria they are just gonna run through your gut, cause why would they stick around if there’s no food? So therefore you’d have to consume probiotics permanently in order to have a constant “flow-through” instead of being able to consume for say 30 days until they’d populate in your gut. Does this make sense?
@brandon3872
@brandon3872 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's why a diet high in fiber is very important. Fiber is found mainly in fruits, vegetables, beans and whole grains such as brown rice. Good bacteria in the gut consume fiber, allowing them to survive and reproduce in our body.

I don't even know if someone will read this but I'm desperate at this point. I've been a very thin person for almost my entire life and I usually eat way less than a thousand calories a day, so I decided to change that. I got an app to check my calories and ended up gaining weigh after a week. Problem is: I found the wonderful world of nuts. Those and whole grain contained so many calories that I could eat in one sitting so I started eating those in huge amounts night and day after a life of barely touching them at all. Not surprisingly, I got sick after a week of ingesting twice the calories I'm used to (over 2000 a day) and nuts all the time. Now even if a week has passed and I stopped my crazy diet, my stomach doesn't seem to be able to take vegetables, fruits or any type of "raw food", I have to cook everything and still I feel bad most of my digestions and go to the bathroom way to much. I keep hearing fibre is good and still it seems to have killed all of my probiotics or something and they don't seem to work anymore, I'm scared I fucked up my stomach basically and I have no idea how to get it back to normal. Does anyone know anything that could help?

There r different types of fiber. Soluble and insoluble. Nuts from what I understand r insoluble. Insoluble can irritate someone w ibs. U want to eat soluble fiber. That's the kind that ferments and feeds ur microbes. Beans chia seeds, potato starch powder, avocado, etc. Stay clear of insoluble fir a while.

@@markweatherall7437 i'm not too familiar with gluten content but you might try cornflakes or rice checks. Another thing to consider is starting your day with lunch rather than breakfast. For some of this can be much more healthy. In fact limiting food to an eight hour. Has some benefits. but not everybody's up to it. But definitely limiting to a 16 hour period. But definitely, only eat foods that agree with you.

The microbiome refers to the collection of genomes from all the microorganisms in the environment. Microbiota, on the other hand, usually refers to microorganisms that are found within a specific environment.
