Who would ever criticize anyone for NOT consuming unhealthy foods and ingredients? Quite to the contrary; I would hold those up as a positive example. Was just in Costo earlier today and while waiting in line to check out, the sheer amount of obesity and then scanning at what people had in their shopping baskets. I’ve heard so many people including my 85 year old mom have their Doctor tell them years later, well…you were pre-diabetic for the last few years. They need to get retrained. The Doctors are only trained to act when they hit the diabetes numbers.

I have always been skinny so prediabetes snuck up on me. It's a misconception that only obese people get diabetes. I had peripheral neuropahty, itchy skin, blurry vision, pain throughout the body aka fibromyalgia, no muscle tone, inability to control body temperature, anxiety, painful ovarian cysts, fibroids so hormones were out of wack, urinating frequently at night, nails turning yellow, the list goes on. I'm reversing this with keto, cutting out refined sugar and carbs. First time in my life I am prioritizing eating animal fat, eggs, bacon, beef; all the stuff I have deprived myself of in favor of foods containing carbs. I feel hyperinsulin or insulin resistance is behind a lot of autoimmune issues and are just being missed by doctors. Your videos have been helpful, thank you.

@@curiousc9259 Under 30 per day. 2 meals a day. 1st meal things like a scramble cooked in avocado oil or grass-fed butter of eggs, mushrooms, spinach, bacon and cheese with 1/4 cup of berries. Dinner things like chicken, cheese, broccoli casserole with crushed pork rinds as "bread crumbs". Nuts and sunflower seeds as snacks, lots of salads, avocado, shirataki noodles, and stuff like that.

My doctor told me I was pre-diabetic and then said it was nothing to worry about. In the year after that diagnosis my numbers got worse and worse. My waist increased. I felt miserable. I went ketovore (thanks to the advise of you and other youtube doctors in the keto community) and reversed my numbers, waist size and energy. I'm currently looking for a new doctor, but sadly, every doctor that I've seen in my area has said the same thing or said it should be addressed with the standard recommended diet. Some went so far to suggest diabetic medication. My search for a doctor who understands The Proper Human Diet continues....

In July 2021 I discovered that such a thing as A1C existed. I immediately went to the lab and my result was 5.8 at age 48. I found out on my own; my doctor never talked to me about it. I eliminated carbs from my diet and did intermittent fasting. After a year my A1C finally dropped to 5.4. I feel 20 years younger. It has not been an easy journey but thanks to people like Dr. Berry we can have the right information to persevere. Thank you, Dr. Berry!!

Yes, that happened to me. A1c was 6.3 for 2 years before she prescribed Metformin. It only brought it down to 5.9. Keto, in 2 months, brought it down to normal range.

When I started Keto in Sept 2020 I asked my DR for an A1C check. I had never had one before that even though I was morbidly obese for years previous to that. At that time it was 5.8, two weeks into Keto then, down 20 lbs water weight of course. Now, my A1C is 5.1!!

I had symptoms of neuropathy and urinating all night long and also pain in my liver area. I went to my doctor, they did an ultrasound of my liver and said everything was fine. Blood work also fine. I asked for a fasting insulin test and my doctor didn’t want to order it because she said everything was fine and I didn’t have blood sugar issues. I was thinking ok, I may not have blood sugar issues but I might have insulin issues but my doctor couldn’t put 2 and 2 together. So I went to the ER a month later for the liver inflammation and they told me I had a fatty liver. I was completely shocked. I then started testing my fasting blood sugar and they were over 100. I was pre diabetic and my doctor couldn’t find that problem and couldn’t tell me, even though I told her all of my symptoms. I trusted her for 2 years since developing the liver pain and I was thinking nothing is wrong. But my doctor was so wrong. She could have easily checked my insulin levels and it would show most likely that it’s high! Unfortunately, many people will die prematurely from mistakes the healthcare industry constantly makes….

Given your doctor's ignorance she probably wouldn't even recognize a high insulin level because what "high" means is open to interpretation. Sure if the level was _above_ the upper limit of normal on the report she would have recognized it, but that threshold is much too high -- at least according to experts like Ben Bikman. I forget the details but I think according to Bikman anything above 6 is suspect and above 10 is a problem for sure. According to quest the "normal" range is 2.0 to 19.6.

At 65, I've been borderline diabetic my entire life because I was a carb and sugar addict. After 2 months on keto my glucose is well within normal limits, no more foot and leg neuropathy, triglycerides normal, blood pressure completely normal. All my previous "high" lab markers are normal or well below range after TWO months and I lost enough weight that every person I know comments on it. My father died of kidney failure after years of diabetes. He used to give himself an insulin shot and go eat a box of cookies. I will never go back because I feel so great. Don't miss carbs at all. Hey doctor Berry. I want to say I found you about four to five months ago give or take and honestly I don't remember how I stumbled upon your video. I think I was doing something in regards to fatty liver disease which is one of four things I was diagnosed with. At the time I was watching your video I was 6’3”/320 pounds, non alcoholic fatty liver disease, type 2 diabetes with an average glucose of about 160 and sometimes would spike to 300. I was following the advice of a dietitian and it never seemed to work. I had one of my friends that went on keto and he lost about 25-30 pounds, so I gave it a shot then I heard about the carnivore diet and got on that for about two months. I took your advice after that 3 1/2 almost four months of keto/carnivore and redid all of my labs. After I've taken my doctor up off the floor she asked what changed, I said I finally quit listening to y'all. I went to a full carnivore diet and I have lost a little over 35 total pounds thus far my fatty liver disease is in complete remission it seems and I have been off my diabetic medication for over a month and a half. My average blood sugar now is about 90 to 115. I do allow a few carbs such as fruit bars or homemade bread probably about once every two weeks, but have given up all the sodas and how did sugar so I would previously get. Occasionally air pop popcorn is a very favorite of mine. I want to personally thank you very much for all of your information guidance and everything else you provide. At present I'm trying to help my wife who had her gallbladder removed by a very money hungry doctor who never bothered to check what kind of diet she was on and she had ONE major issue of gall stones. We're still trying to find ways but more than anything I just want to say thank you, you've been an actual lifesaver. Edit: as an add, my Samsung watch, I've also noted I went from 20-30 min of deep sleep to usually 1.5 hours. It also looks like I may be able to quit using my CPAP machine.

Myself, I hate getting blood tests and needles, but my wife who has been on the keto diet with me recently had a blood test. She is no longer prediabetic and her cholesterol level is normal. I'm going to assume that I'm good too, because I'm not getting a blood test... period. At 70 years old Ive lost 78 pounds in a little less than 6 months on the keto diet. I've never felt better and I actually joined a gym and have been eagerly going every morning. My muscle mass is growing rapidly and I feel much younger than 70. My energy level is great and I keep active all day long. I only wished I had found keto sooner.

This is what Dr J V Dixit from india is telling everyone for many years. And his approach works like absolute magic. His advice for pre diabetic people is simple. He says eat two meals a day when your hunger is at the peak and finish your meals within 55 minutes each time. He says after 55 minutes if you eat again insulin flow will start again and that’s what needs to be avoided to have high insulin levels in the body. He also says avoid all fruits for three months and cut out all sugar/ honey / artificial sweeteners / jaggery etc from your diet. And he says walk for 45 minutes a day minimum and walk fast so your heart rate goes up and try to do 4.5 KM in 45 minutes. He also suggests to keep carbs as low as possible and increase protein intake. I have tried this and it has worked very well for me and became normal from pre diabetic. Thanks for your video.

It was 22 years ago that I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes. I was in my mid 40's and my blood test were all normal. My doctor had concerns for some reason and sent me for a test where I had to drink some type of sweet drink and then was tested every hour to see how I processed the sugar. The doctor concluded I was pre-diabetic. Even though my levels were normal, my levels stayed close to the same over the number of hours the test lasted. So I was advised to take sugar out of my diet, which I did. I continued to eat the same otherwise, which included carbs. About 14 years ago I was put on Metformin. I tested my own glucose levels and found if I didn't eat my glucose levels stayed down. When I told my doctor what I was doing, she said no, no, no. It wasn't until I started watching your videos that I found out about carbs. I can't say I have completely cut them out, but I eat mostly meat and vegetables now. My A1C test have been going down, the last one was 6.6. My doctor asked what I was doing as she is taking three times the dosage of Metformin that I am. I was told that I had pre-Diabetes for several years and encouraged to lose weight but never talked to me about the damage I was doing to my body even before full-blown Diabetes. I waited until I had crossed the line into diabetes and then got serious about doing something to lose weight. I went on Keto and lost a little but my lab work was greatly improved. I went off the diet during the holidays and could not go back to dieting. Now 4 years later I am back on Keto. After about 6 weeks I have lost 15 pounds and feel so much better! Good video, thank you. I know someone who got peripheral neuropathy in prediabetes. The doc said at the time, “It can’t be neuropathy! Neuropathy happens to bad diabetics after years of having it!” But he sent him to a neurologist, and sure enough, he had some pretty bad peripheral neuropathy.

It's already well known that at the time of diabetes diagnosis one-third of patients already have one or more complications of diabetes. It works something like this. Scenario 1: Person goes in for an eye exam. Eye doctor sees diabetic type damage to the retina so they send them to get checked out for diabetes. Diabetes diagnosis follows. 3 weeks ago I found that my per-diabetes has now become diabetes. It forced me to make the changes that were needed. I'm feeling better than I have in a long time. I'm a sugar addict. I'm treating it like alcoholism. For me there is no moderation! I've cut sugar out of my diet. The only sugar I'm taking in is from fruit, a little dairy Heavy cream for my coffee, Greek yogurt and cheese. Sometimes you have to make the changes needed. I have really surprised myself with how I'm doing. It hasn't been easy but you do what you have to do.

I had to Google it to see if they're the same thing. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I'm completely perplexed. Why has none of my doctors mentioned nor taken this test? omg I am having the same exact issues as you are . I had gone several years being prediabetic well in 2019 I started having feet pain I was then diagnosed with plantar fasciitis . I did treatment the treatment but it did not get better so I went to see a neurologist who then diagnosed me with idiopathic neuropathy he did and X-ray and said I was coming from a pinched or compressed disc in my back . I had injections in my back to help with my neuropathy but I am only getting worse. My A1C is now 5.2 which is no longer prediabetic but listening to Dr Berry I am afraid that damage has already been done. Oh I forgot to mention that my doctor said that pre diabetes done not cause damage. But I am now trusting Dr. Ken Berry . I would like to do the Keto but I don’t know where to start or how to start.

A1c of 6.1 and my doctor has never rechecked it. It's been 7 years and still no recheck I got my warning through an employee health screening and it's casual reference to metabolic syndrome another concept my doctor never mentioned. Today the a1c is 5.4 and the fasting insulin is 1.7. I didn't find health in a pill bottle but I did find it on my dinner plate.

That happened to me. Prediabetic off/on at least 2 decades. Through many doctors (I switched randomly when I don't feel comfortable with one) I took the matters in my own hands with diet, vigorous exercise daily and then intermittent fasting 16 to 20 hours. I'm so glad you do videos like this. However, WHY are high triglycerides NOT discussed? I have had them for years! NEVER knowing the damage to my liver they were causing. The ONLY thing I was ever told was how my CHOLESTEROL is bad for my heart. Get on a statin! I refused, repeatedly! I just checked my Hgb A1c going back to 2013 and it was 5.7, stayed there until 2018, went down to 5.3 ( was bike riding strenuously at the time) now back to 5.7 and NOT A PEEP from my doc. I have severe hyperinsulinemia (my doctor did insulin testing with a two hour GTT test) and one thing i"ve noticed having also ME/CFS is that when my insulin levels are high, it actually seems to affect my immune system and gives me a sore throat (and I was getting dreadful heartburn before I went on a keto diet). I avoid all sugar now and grains. With the prediabetes, I also have had complications which are usually seen in diabetes. Another issue prediabetes was given me is severe mood swings esp at that time of the month, to the point I was diagnosed with premenstral dysphoric disorder, my PMDD was so bad that it got me into trouble with the law. I no longer have that issue either when I stick with keto.

My doctor, who is an endocrinologist, told me I was pre-diabetic years ago but acted as if it was no big deal because it wasn't full blown diabetes. What made me lose respect for him as a clinician was after begging for help and guidance with metabolic syndrome issues for years and getting nowhere, at my last visit, he said I needed to see my GP to get on blood pressure meds (in addition to the Armour thyroid I'm taking and after my thyroid became a huge goiter and had to be removed). Then he said "when you get diabetes, we can put you on Wegovy". He said my decline is just a normal part of aging because I'm 51. He never recommended anything healing. He just treats symptoms and watches his patients decline...and while that may not be malicious on his part, you can't help but think that he and many other doctors benefit financially from others' decline. How rich would he be if 75% of his patients went on a ketovore or carnivore diet. I've only been on a ketovore diet for 3 weeks and while I only lost about 9 or 10 pounds before my weight seemed to stall (with over 100 pounds left to lose), I feel better. The bladder pain is gone. The frequent urination has stopped. The blurry vision is also better. Also, my GP and OB/GYN are no better. I went to my GP some years back in my early 40s because I was getting older and wanted a baby. She just told me I was too unhealthy. I was exercising and "eating right" (so I thought) but getting sicker. She offered me nothing but negativity and hopelessness, no solutions. Now I am in perimenopause and if I had known then what I am learning now, I might have a family. I went to my OB/GYN for bleeding between periods and heavier than average facial hair. She put me through expensive tests and a very painful uterine biopsy only to tell me I was normal. When I asked "what about the bleeding and facial hair, she snapped "that's just you". They are quick to give you the "kiss my @ss/eff you" treatment once they have your money and you've run up thousands in medical bills/"your part after insurance". I had to go in payment plans to pay off all tge bills and had nothing to show but a missing thyroid, a host of horrible symptoms that would not go away no matter how much I dieter or excercise, infertility and a proclamation of just being "unhealthy", not to mention the mental and emotional trauma of paying so-called experts to talk to me like I was a piece of shit while their hands were still in my pockets taking my money. Needless to say, I've lost a lot of respect for the medical profession. I know all of them aren't conspiring to hurt patients I I do think that somewhere in their souls many of them know they aren't doing their patients any good but have a God complex that won't allow them to show human compassion or even say "I don't know." I understand that once the patients start ramping up, it's not easy as a doctor to find the time to do your own research....but Doctor Berry did so why can't they?

Plants are good advice. I suffered from metabolic syndrome (obesity, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, and high blood sugar). I went whole food plant based no sugar oil or salt and I lost 65 pounds, all my conditions greatly improved, my gums stopped bleeding, and erections and energy returned. I used to have an appetite that was never satisfied; whole foods cured it. I no longer use a sleep apnea machine. Finally, the food is cheap-Beans, lentils, sprouted bread, rice, potatoes and seasonal apples. Also, I save money by not having to buy pills or visit the Doctor. I am thankful to all the vegans who suffered attacks to reveal the truth to me.

I have eaten lower carb than most off an on, but not keto. My A1C has always been normal, but I noticed that while I was in the hospital, my blood work in the mornings showed over 100, so in the prediabetic range. Also I noticed high ALT enzymes. After I was discharged, I spoke to my primary who told me I was fine and not to worry. I figured my A1C wasn’t high, because I ate mostly lower carb. I also figured I may be prediabetic and not lowering the high carbs when I indulged. I went back to my primary and asked for my liver enzymes to be tested again and they were close to 50. Again, I was told not to worry, yet. Well, thanks to your videos, I learned that I had good cause to worry. I took your advice and started keto and intermittent fasting. I bugged my doctor to test my liver enzymes again, since my mother died of liver cancer. The test showed a sharp decrease in ALT. That was very motivating. Thank you Dr. Berry for real advice that works. I will keep listening and feel I’m on my way to much improved metabolic health!

One very important test or examination you left out is get your eyes checked. I have type one diabetes & I skipped getting my once a year eye exam for three years until one afternoon I started seeing black squiggly lines in my left eye. I immediately made an appointment with my eye Dr, he immediately got me over to a Retina specialist & my worst nightmare came true. I had proliferative diabetic retinopathy (bleeding eyes from hardened blood vessels in my eyes that ruptured). My eye Dr warned me about this 3 years ago but I just kept putting off going back to my eye Dr. What surprised me is my right eye was worse than the one that has the black lines in my vision. He said the right eye hasn’t leaked the blood into the vitreous membrane yet but I could wake up one morning & be blind if it does. Now I’ve had neuropathy for years in my feet & I have trouble with blood pressure going low due to autonomic neuropathy but I tell you get an eye examination once a year it’s so important! I’m looking at 4 injections in each eye then eye surgery to get the dried blood out if he can stop the bleeding.Dr said if your organs look anything like your eyes you will be lucky to live 10 years. My a1c’s usually run 8-9 but it’s the best I can do. Type 1 is difficult to manage. Even after losing 30 lbs it’s still 8.8. So get your eyes checked! That tells a lot about your health when other test fail to let you know.

My mother was diagnosed in the early 80s. She became an diabetes educator. She always said that there was no pre diabetes, that it was diabetes no matter what. I have eaten low sugar for decades. Then I fell into the low fat trap and put on weight while trying to eat sensibly post menopause. I did switch to a low carb diet about 10 years ago but caregiving my parents and then the pandemic put paid to that. So I was diagnosed as pre diabetic last August. Now I try to stay under 25gm of carbs. My fasting blood glucose is on average now 5.4 but it bounces depending on stress and pain. Plus I still have to bake and cook for others.

Glad I ran across this older video. I absolutely have been going down this path. I had blood work done a couple years apart and my doctors said I was fine even though my test came out and said, this person's results is common in a person with prediabetes. I have spent money and time researching this myself, which led me to the carnivore diet. My kidneys were starting to fail and my feet started to hurt. I am at this time continuing the path to my own research. The more I know the more I don't trust doctors and still can't find a doctor that knows how to work with me.

This happened to me and it really pisses me off!!! So far, I’ve only had four A1c tests taken in my lifetime. I’m 63, female. Most recent 5.6 But Aug 2021, it was 5.7 and the doctor said, “Nothing to worry about, you’re borderline pre diabetic.” Well, I dropped her like a hotcake! Then I looked back at my records and back in 2018, a different doctor said the same thing about my 5.8 A1c. The previous A1c was back in 2004 and A1c was 5, fasting glucose 88. Strange thing is that in 2021, my FBG was 85, yet A1c 5.7. So clearly my diet was causing spikes. My guess is I’ve been pre diabetic for YEARS! I have tingling in hands and feet. Now I’m on an almost carnivore (maybe ketovore?) and already my avg BG is down way below 100. I plan to take next A1c (home test) at end of month. You can have a "normal" A1C (less than 5.7%) and still be insulin resistant / hyperinsulinemic. The best way to asses your status is to have the "Kraft Insulin Assay". This test is difficult to find and your insurance most likely will not cover it, but it's still the best test. Check out videos from Ivor Cummins and Pradip Jamnadas for more on this. The original work on this was performed by Joseph Kraft, MD and and he wrote a book called The Diabetes Epidemic and You. Ivor Cummins did an interview with Dr. Kraft before he died and it's available on KZbin. Fasting insulin and C-peptide (as Dr. Berry recommends) are also good measures but not as good as the Kraft test. Another way to check is to calculate the ratio of your Triglycerides to HDL based on the numbers from your last lipid panel, which is included in most routine lab work. If the ratio is below 1.5 you're in good shape. 1.5 to 2.0 is a gray area with room for improvement. Over 2.0 is for sure insulin resistance. Check out videos from Ben Bikman for more on this. Example 1: Triglycerides 147 and HDL 41. Notice that both numbers are probably marked "Normal" on the lab report. Ratio: 147/41 = 3.58 3.58 > 2.0 so this patient almost certainly insulin resistant. Example 2: Triglycerides 81 and HDL 58. Ratio: 81/58= 1.40 1.40 < 1.5 so this patient does not have insulin resistance. Fix this ratio by lowering trigs and increasing HDL. How do we do this?
