Coming from an English Football fan, great explanation However, there's one thing important to note when looking at the whole system Promotion isn't just as simple as the top few teams getting promoted We have a system of automatic promotion and play-offs Let me explain with an example I support Bristol Rovers, we're in League One, but we just got promoted from League Two In League Two, there's 4 promotion spots (the amount of promotion spots also varies by League, it can be as little as 2) But only the top 3 go up automatically We finished in 3rd which meant we did go up automatically, but if we finished in 4th we would've been in the play-offs Basically the next 4 teams go into the play-offs (so for L2 4th-7th) The highest team plays the lowest, the middle two play in the semi-final, which has 2 legs Then the winners go onto the final, which if it's in one of the EFL Leagues would be held at Wembley (the national stadium if anyone didn't know) The winner gets promoted So in L2 you could finish lower than 4th and still get promoted (this season the play-offs were won by 5th) Not too important to know if you only plan on following the Prem but if you want to become a fan of English football more broadly or even support a lower level team this is important to know

I am an American born Anglophile, one parent was born and raised in England the other born and raised in a British Commonwealth nation. I love watching English Premier league football when it is shown over here. But I never fully understood it. I knew the basic terms and things like relegation and promotion, but there were many things I either learned in this video or that were more succinctly explained. Definitely well worth just a little under five minutes of my time. This is just for my own enjoyment of the sport, no gambling or anything involved. I love my American sports, but I want to be more familiar with the British football system. I especially appreciate your tying It into baseball. I know that might confuse or anger our British friends watching this, but it made it clear for me.

You mustn't call clubs at lower levels insignificant. These clubs may attract less than 1000 fans but they are very important to their fans and the community. Non league football is an absolute joy for a really genuine football experience. Premier League fans may also follow a club in the lower leagues.

Good point, I didn't mean to imply that the lower leagues were unimportant and contained no value. I meant it more as, for common fans just starting to learn about the Premier League and European football, that they're not going to hear nearly as much about those lower leagues as the Premier League. That's where the real star power is.

My favorite team is Huddersfield in level 2 but also have been in level 1 before ( Extreme fail of 20th place in 2018/19 season. So sad. That's why I like them. I felt bad for them.

Same goes for Asian Cup, CONCECAF. Combine all international competitions with the World Cup. How many games are there in the NBA? 82?

In the premier league table what does goal difference mean and how does it work.

Goal difference only comes into play if 2 teams are tied on points. So say Liverpool and Man City both have 24 points, with Liverpool scoring 21 goals and conceding 7, while Man City scores 18 while giving up 11. Liverpool would be ahead on goal difference because 21-7=14. Their goal diff is +14 while City's would only be +7

Yep, if a team keeps getting promoted they could technically go from any league to the Premier League. Idk all the specific cases, but there's been plenty of times where a team has gone from EFL League 2 to the Premier League in a short span, 1 example I can think of is Wigan Athletic in the early 2000's

Yes, several teams have risen up through the leagues below Tier 10, such as Forest Green Rovers (the most eco football club in the world) currently competes in League One (Tier 3) after winning League Two. They competed in a league that runs from tiers 14-21 on the system

Tiers 1-4 are the professional leagues although Tier 5 is mostly professional now. Tier 6-10 is semi pro Tiers 11 and below are a mixture of semi pro and amateur teams Note: if this is wrong please correct me

Yes. Basically anyone can start a team in the 10th tier and keep getting promoted until the premier league. Example. A new team called AFC Wimbledon was formed in 2004 starting in the 10th tier. By 2017, they were in league one, the 3rd tier.

In America, all of our major sports have a playoff system. For good reason. It brings drama and makes winning even harder and more prestigious cause usually the two best teams are left playing one on one. Just winning the regular season only carries bye rounds or home field advantages.

Actually, they intended to make it a closed league in 1992 (when PL was created, replacing the old 1st division) but eventually it was decided that pro-rel remains

It's just that the premier league's TV deal and revenue is so massive, that the difference between being in the 2nd tier and the premier league is $200 million. 2. Norwich don't get relegated intentionally. No team wants to get relegated & miss our on the massive money that's in the premier league.

You play the following season in the league below. So if you finish bottom 3 in the premier league you move down to the English League Championship. But that following season a team will have a chance to get promoted if they finish high enough and back to the prem league
