I’m a professional cake decorator and these are now my most “Asked for” cookie. I make these (have found I need to squish them down and not leave in a ball) I make a cream cheese Frosting with custard powder to put on top and they are heaven! They are good by themselves but add a buttercream or cream cheese frosting and “Magic” happens! Be warned they will be your most requested cookie by your sugar cookie lovers! They are a little time consuming but worth the extra time for sure. I no longer make sugar cookies Cz these take the cake! I made these today. This is now my standard versatile cookie dough. I already discovered you don't need to chill the dough, you don't need to roll the dough around in your hand and this recipe will adapt to lots of different flavors. I used my standard small ice cream scoop and got 22 round cookies. The last six got a small handful of shredded coconut added as a (very successful) test. Next times I will switch out flavors, such as almond or lemon, which should work easily.

OH MY! Thanks for this recipe! My mom used to make these in the 60s when I was a girl. We made them together a couple times, (sadly we rarely cooked together) at Christmastime, from a tattered hand typed recipe she in a three ring binder from some women's group (maybe Army Wives or Catholic boarding school) that shared recipes. I haven't thought of them of in years, and it's been decades since I've had one, but I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THEM! I'll do them next week with my granddaughter when she comes to stay. I really appreciate this. I have very few good memories of my mom, whose life was troubled, so I try to cultivate the good ones because the bad ones don't need help. This is healing - THANKS!

Okay - so we used to roll the batter up into a wax paper wrapped log before refrigeration. Then we could unwrap and slice, and bake. It was great to make extra ahead, and bake more really fast, which was handy during the holidays. I bet it would freeze well. I'm going to try it. I'll report back.

I love this recipe! You are correct the dough is a sticky mess. I got tired of fighting it because I started too late in the day so I put the dough in refrigerator overnight. I don’t know why but it was so easy to work with the next day. My daughter loves Snicker Doodles so I made a bowl of cinnamon and turbanado sugar. After rolling the cookies I rolled them in the cinnamon sugar. Omg they were amazing. The turbanado sugar gives them a nice crunch versus regular sugar. I’ve made a lot of your recipes and love every one of them. Easy to follow. I have a brain disease and it has really made it hard for me to comprehend directions correctly. I’m Sicilian and not used to following a recipe but a stroke took my memories away so my kids want everything written down. This is my new favourite cookie recipe, it tastes amazing, and it stays soft even after two days! (It took an enormous amount of willpower to test this, believe me.) A word to the wise: if your kitchen is quite warm (as mine usually is, especially when the oven is on), be quick when handling the dough. I fiddled with the balls a bit too much when I made my first batch, so even though I took the dough out of the fridge only a few minutes before baking, some of the balls started to melt a little before getting into the oven, and as a result I got a few cookie-puddles instead of round and shapely mounds. Still friggin' delicious though :D The second time around I threw the balls back into the fridge and only took them out to quickly slap them onto the baking tray, and they turned out perfect

Back in the 1970's we had an elderly friend. Each time she came to visit she brought a box of baked goods. She made Angel Food Cake from scratch and frosted it with a maraschino cherry glaze, back when maraschino cherries were actually good! Included in the box was always two different cookies that I have never seen since. I would ask her to share her recipe with me. She was really elderly, had no children or family and she would not share the recipe. She did tell me that the two cookies were "cream cheese cookies". One cookie had small pieces of maraschino cherries in the dough and glazed with the same glaze from the cake. The second cookie was also a "cream cheese cookie" and it was stuffed with a combination of diced nuts, cherries, raisins and dates. You could tell the fruit and nuts were cooked in some liquid but I think they had been marinated in rum as they had a faint rum taste. This batter seems like it might not be dry enough to roll and cut, with intent to stuff. I really would have loved to have the recipes. Thinking about it, I just remembered there was another cookie that was also stuffed with a date that had a walnut inside and it was stuffed with cream cheese, not in the dough. She was an amazing baker and it is so sad that her love of baking and her wonderful recipes died with her. Thank you for sharing the recipe that brought back so many wonderful memories.

Okay, wow, I just made these wonderful cookies, the first of John's recipes I've tried. I would normally pass by anything not involving chocolate, but the cream cheese thing caught my fancy. Scrumptious! I made half topped with apricot jam and half plain. Both are fab! If I had a batch of my homemade lemon curd, I'd use that, too. Next time! Thank you, this one's a keeper 😋

OMG TRUTH ! LIKE LEMON CHEESECAKE...SORTA. I DISCOVERED THAT > THE WHOLE LEMONS I "ZESTED" THE PEELS OFF OF < CAN BE PUT IN FREEZER ZIP BAGS AND FROZEN TO MAKE "PULPY" LEMON CURD

@@cathyness2156 If you zest the lemon peel with a grater very fine and mix it together with sugar (don't go to easy on the sugar part) and finish it up with a dash of lemon juice and put it in a jar and keep it in the fridge you can use it all the time for baking. It preserves for a long time and you can by organic fruits when you can get them on sale. The lemon juice I freeze in an ice cube form and use it when I need some. So you can defrost them in portions as you need them. You can do this also with oranges and limes.

How should you store these, and how long will they stay good? Can you freeze them too? I made them yesterday and love them, Thank you so much for sharing your recipe. I did not like them warm, but after they completely cooled off WOW! I liked them after they sat on a cooling rack for a few hours. I put them in a ziplock and left at room temp; they were still delicious the next day but got just a little bit moist in the baggie, so I'm wondering if in a container or frozen might work better for my preference. Thank you for your help/suggestions.

I am on my second batch of 72 cookies 🍪 and can unequivocally say that using monk fruit sugar substitute and doing the maths so that the “flour” is 3 parts almond flour to 1 part coconut 🥥 flour (which makes a pretty decent all purpose flour substitute) rocks! Thank you John, these are addictive :)

Kristi Lisa Kleiner....where is the recipe printed out or I'll just have to watch from beginning.
@kristilisakleiner93842 жыл бұрын
@@jlwestbrook325 Yes, that is what I did, I watched several times or just paused the video, substituting monk fruit for sugar and I took the volume of flour and did the math to make it 3 parts almond flour one part coconut flour. Not almond meal but almond flour, you can find a finely ground almonds flour that is very‘flour’ ish, Trader Joe’s sells a good one but I know it can be found at Sprouts and Costco

This recipe is so amazing! Unbelievably easy to put together and sooo delicious. Not too sweet, so even my parents who don't like sweet things ate them 😂 and I chilled the dough overnight and it wasn't sticky, I didn't even have to wash my hands during rolling. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe ♥️

Thank you very much for including the weights of the dry ingredients in your recipes, it is absolutely more accurate than a measuring cup. It can also save you dirtying some bowls and measuring cups if you just tare the previous weight when adding your dry ingredients.

Hey John, I was wondering if you could do a video about your copper cookware, the pros and cons of it, and how to best look after them? I’m thinking of investing in some copper pots and pans but imagine they need a bit of extra care and polishing?

Good recipe. I hope you don’t mind if I make a couple of suggestions: 1. Instead of 2tsp vanilla, try 1.5 tsp vanilla and 1/2 tsp almond extract. It makes these cookies just…WOW. 2. Because they are so sticky, I scoop with a spoon and drop a blob into a little bowl of granulated sugar and coat it. Now you can roll it into a ball easier and you can skip the powdered sugar at the end. (And you won’t have the dough sticking all over your fingers.). They will still be pretty because they sparkle. 3. I might try a cooler oven temp next time because you really have to watch these. If they are even in a minute too long, the bottom turns golden and there’s nothing wrong with that, but now a soft cookie is crunchy on the bottom. Still good, though! Before you say it’s because of the sugar, it’s not. I make all of my sugar cookies this way and I’ve never experienced this as a problem. Thanks for the recipe, it’s a good one.

Elegant dough removal from paddle technique: use a butter knife to carefully and lovingly scrape off all residual dough from the paddle in full appreciation of keeping the dough mixture as robust as possible for final hand mixing and follow on ball rolling. Patience is key!
