Hi there. Thanks for the video. I'm canning some pickled red onions today. 😊 just a tip for you, at 2:24, when you grab your jars, you have the jar lifter upside down. The black ends are the handles and the green ends hold below the neck of each jar. This will allow you to be able to pour out your jar into the pot with it gripping correctly. Happy canning! ❤️

Thank you, dear! I do know I grabbed the wrong end to get that jar out in my haste to juggle both camera work and boiling water. If you watch the whole video you’ll see I use them correctly along the way. But thank you for reaching out and for watching my video! I hope your pickled onions came out great! God bless!

But you don't wanna tilt the jars either by pouring off the water

I recently purchased a dental 'Shaker Oscillator'. I got it for about $45 and it vibrates all the air in the jar to the top without smashing down the contents of the mason jar. Every bubble is vibrated out and the unit is only 4" accross! Saves me a lot of time burping the jars and having the right amount of liquid in each jar.

Wow, I didn’t know that was a thing! Thank you for sharing! I’m going to check that out right now. What brand did you purchase?

Hello I am canning some white onions today. I brought everything to a boil. I did not boil the onions. I put them in the widemouth quart raw.. Then I can put the juice on and set them in the fridge but I want to canned them so I might heat the sauce back up port in each jar and then steam can quarts for 15 minutes

I hope that works for you! God bless!

Hi Scott. How fast will you consume the onions? I gauge what size jar I water bath can to suit my needs. I went from quarts to pints because I wasn't eating them fast enough. Pints and half pints worked best for me for canning. Far less waste from spoilage and a fresh jar every time I want some. The single life makes you think more. lol

Thank you for the video. What is the measurement for sugar if you don't have the honey?
@sheenashomestead Жыл бұрын
Hi Tina! I would use about 1/3 cup if I didn't have honey. Thank you for watching!

HI SHEENA. DO YOU WATER BATH CAN 15 MINUTES FOR ANY LEVEL. I AM IN TENNESSEE
@sheenashomestead9 ай бұрын
Hi Garry! You will need to add 1 minute processing time for each 1,000 feet ABOVE 1,000. feet. So for 1,000 - 3,000 feet you'd add 5 minutes. 3,001 - 6,000 add 10 minutes. I always error on the side of caution and add a few mins processing time. I also allow my jars to cool inside the waterbath canner a bit before pulling them out. Thank you so much for watching. I'm going to have many more canning recipes episodes this year so stay tuned!

Never use a metal spoon for honey it kills all the good enzymes

You’re not supposed to use a metal spoon with honey
@sheenashomestead5 ай бұрын
@@shawnmcdougall6905 thank you for your comment but it’s actually a myth. Keeping a metal spoon in your honey isn’t something I’d recommend but using it to scoop out a measurement with 2 seconds of contact is completely fine. Thanks for watching!
