We take a look at fundamental wrestling principles and how they can facilitate some brutal knife disarms! Knife disarms can sometimes be too elaborate, too sophisticated. Often times, simple is best for knife defense. On the ground, the stakes are higher for a lot of people so here is a good look at how wrestlers might handle the situation!
Interested in wrestling based ground defenses in a weapons based environment? Lucky for you we've made a simple to understand but supremely nuanced look at this topic with "The Bladed Grappler 3" featuring former D1 wrestler, BJJ Black Belt, Military Contractor and the head coach of 4 UFC World Champions: Greg Nelson!!!!

For me what drives this video is the "what ifs". I hate seeing instructors break down when someone asks them "what if" and it doesn't match up with the teaching and gets ignored. Being able to apply lessons to the what if scenarios and still maintain the teaching shows the strength of this in my opinion.

Great demonstrations guys, really nailing it! Control the hands, once you press in, it's all leverage, very little strength! If anyone where in this same situation, generally speaking, when both people's adrenaline can reach critical mass, both people will most likely get hurt. Hopefully the aggressor more so. Practice, practice, practice, the only way to minimize injury, and then roll again! And again!

Wow. I remember doing this from high school wrestling, we called it the Penn State, and would switch back to the other side and snatch a Half Nelson and then go for the pin with all their weight on their other arm. Never thought of it as an arm break, and Definitely never as an anti-knife technique. That's really cool

My thoughts are that it is critical, while grappling, to keep one's limbs either locked outward or clinched close to the body (as necessary) in order to avoid allowing your opponent to maneuver your arms or legs into an awkward position, then to disable you. I think the most effective and dangerous grapplers have great body awareness/intelligence as well as superior techniques.

Personally I think videos like this usually do more harm than good as it can make people think it might be a good idea to try to fight and disarm someone with a knife. If you have any chance to run away at all, then that is your best option. Fighting someone that has a knife being unarmed yourself, will most of the time kill you or affect the rest of your life very badly. Even so called professionals like Enos Slivers will get seriously injured or killed most of the times if they meet someone skilled with knives in a real fight for life or death. The odds are not stacked to their advantage.

Good techniques, Im just wondering if fro0 02:28 & 09:04 your opponent feels himself trapped and drops the knife to pick it up with the left hand. I know his options are limited by your pinning weight and the restricted mobility of his limbs, but he then does gain control of the weapon ?

All well and good, but first you will need to get the knife wielding person to the ground without him/her cutting you stabbing you to badly. Good luck with that if you meet someone that knows what they are doing. Getting control of an arm and break it on a person on the ground you already have rather good control over, is not the most difficult to do. What if you meet a person like me that most likely will wield two knives at the same time in a situation and also might have a hidden back up or two? Or I just suddenly pull the second knife and hit you with it the moment you focus on the one knife and /or go for a take down? Just a moron/novice have one knife only if he/she decides to carry a blade in the first place. If you decide to carry a knife/knives for self defense, make sure to carry multiple concealed ones . Don't depend on that one blade only. And learn how to use a blade with both hands.

I must have missed something. How did the attacker get on the ground?, kind of convenient. If the attacker has a knife but doesn't really know how to use it, OK maybe you get him to the ground. Now how about the attacker knows how to use it, I think you may be in big trouble and maybe dead. Watching some videos over and over doesn't help with the gamut of variables you could encounter. On a brighter note, wrestling or JiuJitsu would be great if you can take them down.

the piccards: I don’t know about Trav being a ‘troll’ as you call him but he issued a $10,000 challenge to Funker Tactical that none of the knife self defence stuff he shows on this site works….FT hasn’t accepted the challenge on this channel but on kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKGpnZpnos6na6c he does so if he’s so confident why not accept on this channel huh and not on some channel that no-one sees (so he can say he’s accepted and Trav hasn’t responded?) and as for ‘clever marketing’ why not he’s saying FT’s stuff doesn’t work and he’s got a solution. FT needs to man up and accept the challenge on this channel and prove Trav wrong.
