Ahhh Columbus isn't far at all....I would love to connect sometime. My case of butane came from Amazon tonight. and i stepped the family through lighting it and told my wife how much mileage Kellene could get off of a can of butane by wrapping her pressure cooker in towels..LOL she thinks i'm nuts...

Wow, thanks for this vídeo, is exactly what I was needing. I just bought a Kuhn Rikon express coocker in Switzerland a few days ago, after many years not using one. I did not cook yet, as I was afraid not wanting to do anything wrong. I love the info and tips you share and how you do it. I just subscribed, and can´t wate to learn more, especially the cheese cake!!! Thanks!!!

Today, 3/30/2019 finished buying me one, the small one, in GoodWill and in its box, it cost me $ 8.00 dlls, and I found your video, I am very happy with the high recommendations that you make of this, but something else, I I have stove induction and it works perfectly, of course, in Europe, induction stoves are used a lot. I am a fan of the pressure cooking, I have several, fast and efficient, but also, I will be a fan to you too. Thank you very much and thank God that I put this wonder on my way. I am Mexican and we like food, besides, food is number one in family meetings where we all talk at the same time at the table.

I loved this video. You are right, cooking with a pressure cooker takes less energy even though the food gets to a higher temp. There are a couple of reasons. Less water is converted to steam (because the steam is largely contained by the cooker). Converting water to steam takes a huge amount of energy. The second reason is that you are not cooking long enough.

I inherited a 20 year old, but brand new Duramatic. It's small like 5.5 quarts but works fantastic. I really need to start using it for pot roasts and soups. Seems like it is superior and faster. Good information here thanks.

Great video. I have a Kuhn Rikon Duromatic 5 litre Brazier and boy, it is virtually quiet while it is cooking. I also have a Fagor Chef 8 litre and it's a good PC but it's much noisier. I liken the Kuhn Rikons as the "Cadillac" of PCs. Expensive but well worth the price.

Hello Mrs., thanks for your video. If I may ask, why do you prefer a long grip version? I'm planing to buy a 3.5 l/20cm short grip so... Greetings.

You should look at the Perfect Plus German pressure cooker. Super user friendly and very modern design. Handle is part of lid and is removable. Outstanding quality. I looked at other European models and decided on the stainless German model. I didn't discover it, I slow motioned a scene of Good Eats and saw the perfect plus was the cooker Alton Brown uses. I figure he is a pretty serious foodie to say the least and his choice of cookers is unlimited. I'm happy I copied him as I couldn't be happ

I love your blog and videos! Why do you like the Kuhn Rikon 7 quart long hand more than the models with two short handles on the side? Is it because the 2 short handles get to hot to touch without a pot holder? Or is it because it is easier to lift the pot with one long handle? I am trying to decide between the the 7 quart pan with the long handle or the 8 quart Hotel 11 inch wide Kuhn Rikon. It is just my wife and I. If you could only buy one would you go with the 12 quart or 10 quart?
@PreparednessPro8 жыл бұрын
Yep, you got it. I've burned myself too many times is all. I'd got the 10 quart, only because it takes a while to bring to pressure the bigger you go. I can do a nice sized roast and plenty of potatoes in my 10 qt. JUst FYI, if you can't afford the Kuhn Rikon, the BRK is the next best thing.
@m4dh4dd3r8 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I have not been able to find a 10 quart Kuhn Rikon. I've only seen them in 8 or 12 quarts with double handles. And the largest I found online with the long handle was 7 quart Where did you find a 10 quart with a long handle? Thanks a million. I live in a city where no one carries pressure cookers of any quality.
@SDCitygal10 жыл бұрын
You never mentioned the sizes? Can you please post?
@PreparednessPro4 жыл бұрын
I like the larger ones because you can always use the larger ones but not always need or want the smaller ones. It's based on budget then at that point. A good sized pot roast needs a larger one. So go with whatever your budget will handle.

Duromatic is the original name of kuhn rikon. I got one here from the original made out of aluminum body. Been using this since late 60's or early 70's :)

I have 2 pressure cookers (kuhn rikon) and a quality instant pot. If I want to pressure cook, I prefer the pressure cooker greatly over an instant pot.

If I need to reduce pressure quickly you can run under cold water, just run around the outsides of the cooker lid, not right on the top
@PreparednessPro4 жыл бұрын
That's actually not advised for all models as it could compromise the integrity of the metal over time. Be sure to check your manufacturers instructions. :-)
@PreparednessPro4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend using cold water. The pressure release on the Kuhn Rikon is plenty fast.

You can NOT put your All American pressure canner on a flat top stove. It says so on the outside of the box also. I also have one. Make sure you contact the manufacture to make sure you can use other pressure canners. All flat tops are not made the same. I teach these things. That's what I do. Your instruction for your pressure cooker is wonderful.
@PreparednessPro7 жыл бұрын
:-) *sarcasm font on* Well if it says so, then that must be true. After doing some extensive research on the matter, I discovered that the reason for this disclaimer is because the early generation of flat top stoves were unable to maintain the heat/pressure. EVERYONE, regardless of what stove they are using, should make sure that heat/pressure is being maintained throughout the cooking process. Just FYI, it also says on the Mason Jar boxes that the jars are only to be used for 1 year. Let's face it. TPTB are not in favor of any of us perpetuating a world of self-sufficiency AND the environment of litigation perpetuates a lot of hogwash too.
