I dated my high school sweetheart for eight years and he nicknamed me "kid" after this song, he used to sing it to me all of the time. I miss this music, I miss this time in my life and I especially miss him...

I always thought there was something a bit Sid Vicious about Farndon. He could easily have played him in a film. Sadly both were fated to die young.

I read that Johnny Marr of the Smiths would play the guitar solo of this song as warm up before going on stage. Honeyman-Scott was genius.

One of my fave bands. Got hooked on them in 1982. Bought the "Pretenders EP" on cassette and the rest was history. I was 14. Chrissie looks like she never left the '60s.

Remember watching this when it was first broadcast - I'd bought 'Stop Your Sobbing' when it came out after hearing it on Peel or some other Radio One show (maybe Mike Read) - and 'Kid' was such a great single too - I was so excited to see them on TOTPs!

With all due respect, I offer a few words: possibly the most tasteful, the most sublime, the most eloquent eight-bar guitar break ever laid down. I've lost count of how many times it's taken my breath away. Overlay the foreshortened life, and it's almost more than the heart can take. Yes, thanks, indeed, for leaving us these 18 exquisite seconds.

A fan of The Pretenders for many years, this song gives me comfort, at the age of 57, to look back and realize, that I had to be away from my (now 7 year old KID). I had to balance our time together against the difficulty of bringing in the money. It's an apology that I hope my little girl will one day understand. To Sara Hacking, miles away in Japan.

I just read Johnny Marr did a stint as guitar player for the pretenders. Is there any band alive that Johnny Marr hasn't sat in with? I was surprised AF when he showed up at a gig to play guitar for Modest Mouse. Dude is everywhere. On topic, I love this song, although it's hard for me to hold it together. It's a very sad song. Don't let the pop structure fool you. Beautiful ballad.
