What I love most about this scene is the fact that Mari embraces who she is and isn’t ashamed of herself. Chloe and Gabriel had that pattern of labeling her as “the daughter of a baker” as if it’s a bad thing. That’s what makes this scene so powerful. Her comeback against Gabriel shows how she’s not ashamed of her roots and how it’s something she’s proud of. It really teaches people how you shouldn’t be ashamed of your roots or your past, but rather you should embrace them and be proud of it. The way Mari walked out of the mansion with that final quote was gold. “And that’s the benefit of being the daughter of a baker. I don’t need to try your pancakes to know that they’re tasteless”

What I like about the scene is how Gabriel is trying to use his connection to help Marinette achieve her fashion designer dreams because let's be honest to make it in that industry you need connection, which we see in Style Queen where Audrey has connection to the fashion industry and help Gabriel be the famous designer he is now which was close to the truth for Marinette when Audrey gave Marinette the same opportunity. But Marinette doesn't need the connection seeing as a lot of famous people like her stuff already and made a name for herself without needing Gabriel's help (Which let's be honest is a huge deal because its a step closer to her dream but she turns it down and it screams how much of a better person she is for doing so knowing what Gabriel is trying to do to her). Marinette is a queen as we see. Also, I love how when Marinette was coming down the stairs after telling Adrien she'll always be there and love him the Gorilla moves away like "I might be big and strong but she more dangerous and stronger that me" 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I completely agree! You do need connections and whilst marinette did turn down an opportunity, it’s not the end of the world because she can curate those connections herself. She’s more than capable and like you’ve rightly stated, her designs are already quite liked. Through Jagged Stone: that’s a connection. Alya’s blog: a connection. Adrien himself? A connection. If I recall correctly the written version of this scene has Nathalie intervening. This is great for showing how much Nathalie has changed, but I still like this version better. The truly great part is how Marinette breaks down after going around the corner.

I think this is one of my favorite season 5 episodes! Marinette was extremely brave and spoke from the heart to Adrien’s father. It also shows just how different these two are regarding their ideas of fashion. He may be right about needing connections but Marinette doesn’t need him, she has Jagged, probably Audrey, Nadia Chamack and Adrien himself to help her with her fashion career. She was like a knight in shining armor right there. 🤩🤩🤩

I love it when scenes have deeper meaning than what it is presented. I have thought this scene was just about Gabriel trying to challenge Marinette to get his goals back in line, but never such a deep meaning in a psychological direction. This really ties well to the sentibeing theory (I’m calling them sentibeings bc they are in no way monsters and were created to be humans). Adrien, Kagami, and Félix may have been born as humans, but to the parents, they are more than that. They have the opportunities to have their children become the people they want them to be. As you said, parents are suppose to guide their children to become good people with a moral compass and find their own ways in the world, but they can’t choose they want to be, what goals they want to do, what they want to do in their lives overall. But when they are sentibeings, when they have the power to influence their children’s decisions to what they want, the temptation is huge and they have succumbed to it. Marinette challenging Gabriel on that front is thematic. She is someone who represents freedom and trying to make the best out of the situations she is confronted in, and perceives and makes the best out of her life. Something the Agreste aren’t. The scene also reminds me of how Marinette finally stood up against Chloé and take control of her happiness in her life once more. Only now she is challenging the man who has more power, more influence, more control to make her life miserable. It’s honestly so nice to see more a personal conflict between Gabriel and Marinette (I just wish it didn’t come in so late in the narrative arc). I’m really liking the theme of control vs. free will in the show, and how Adrien and Marinette represents those themes respectively. Adrien in a controlling environment where he is in a state of the illusion of choices, while Marinette has more freedom in her life to make mistakes and grow from them. Her home life ironically helps with that with how her parents leave her so much to her own devices, but I also kind of wish there was a storyline and arc on it, like learning self-control and knowing when to push your limits or when to ask for help.

I kinda agree honestly. SPOILER &LEAK WARNING AHEAD: • • • I saw a spoiler from the episode revelation where Gabriel was actually very goofy around the time he met Emilie and he was full of life. Kinda like how marinette is lively and fun to be around. Then of course, everything happened, he met Audrey, became rich, lost his wife and just became cold-hearted. I guess that’s why he dislikes marinette so much. Because she gives Adrien freedom and happiness- something that was taken away from Gabriel when he lost Emilie

When parents or other people in a family are overprotective yeah it's good that they care for their children and want to keep them safe and not get hurt but preventing them from doing things they enjoy and not giving them space is abusive and yeah as you can see in the first 4 seasons ladybug was acting all grown up you know whenever cat acts like a kid but yeah thanks to feilx yeah smartypants made a video of him disscusing about how marionette's stageited behavior would finally go in season 5 and yes it did she's really come from a creepy stalker perfect Mary sue to a stubborn badass girl who would do whatever she can to get her way even though it's very late and yeah season 5 has really brought everything we waited for 4 seasons such as marionette's backstory the defeat of Lila AND the big adrinette kiss that just won't happen until the final the only things were missing is the reavel the REAL one not the disappointments of obliveo cat bluck and emparel marionette getting akumized AND Lila's backstory

Is it just me, or is what Gabriel says at the end super stupid? Like, he says Adrien will go to London and that no one can stop him even though in the previous episode he was literally erased from reality by Argos, who came back in this same episode to disrupt his plans and lives in London, the same place where Gabriel wants to take Adrien. If Félix finds out about this he will try to do something about it without hesitation because that's how he is, and Gabriel should know that at this point and at least be concerned about how he is going to take Adrien there.

Before I Watch the rest of the video I noticed to separate analogies in the scene, first is baking and how it relates to both (for a lack of a better term) timeliness and family values. Marinette comes from a happy family that benefits from their modernity as symbolized by her modern tasty baking style she learned from her parents, while Gabe only really knows how to make pancakes, with a old recipe that apparently doesn't taste as good, and I don't think Gabe likes his own pancakes because his parenting style only seems to make Adrien to miserable to care whether or not there's bananas and Gabe himself mad a like all the time

The second analogy is of course Fashion and how it relates to choices, Gabe thinks he controls other peoples choices both in fashion and in life and while to some extent that's true, Mari is the fashion designer of her own destiny, and she designs fashion for other people based on what they want, Mari gives people more freedom of choice.

Oh im willing to break this down, future father in law vs future daughter in law here we go He goes you're right, Marinette there is a misunderstanding You see this pancake, it's your future. if it's not big enough I can make it just the way you like, double pancake, triple pancake, with jam/maple syrup/banana's all you have to do is ask and you'll have everything you wish for He remembers her contest entry and acknowledges her creativity designer to designer With his support he's willing to help her mentor to mentee become the worlds greatest fashion designer, him and helping in the same sentence from a visibly dying man....well I hope he's meant his own words She's not going to be able to share in her own future with Adrien, as his destiny is set by Gabriel and it does not include sharing pancakes with her The pancake is a last ditch gamble in an attempt to save himself, nothing more or less Life is like fashion, you think you have a choice but all you have is the illusion of a choice and I decide what choices are given to you. no Gabriel you do not decide what choices are given to your future daughter in law and as usual you continue to associate her with the happiness you don't have anymore and in turn with your own wife Marinette has the courage to say he's wrong, and that fashion is about listening to people and about understanding who they are, what excites them and helping them to express their inner world to help them connect with others and making their own dreams come true It's an obvious indicator he's lost his way by her words, the industry largely is about connections you make with people and how they connect with you. she's right it is built on connection, Gabriel has lost sight on what that truly means He laughs her off, says as he does and exposes her to the entire industry all at one time from his own standpoint, while he is right he does as he does how he does it, he has to be open to seeing both sides of the same point While he has his approach, she has hers where she listens to people and people are one to make her, he basically denigrates her at the end of the entire exchange as he does with most people that come into Adrien's life as usual, why do we expect anything different? Adrien this season has come a long way in wanting to ask more of the powerful questions, it's hard on Gabriel as he doesn't know or has been absent for so long as a parent in answering these questions on his own as look at protection, look at just about anywhere else where Adrien has posed those questions to him Adrien has said it himself that she's the person he loves and admires most in the world (look at ephemeral), nobody can make him laugh better than she can (look at psychomedian) both from last season. this confirms right there this is his Emilie, this is his story, it's not Gabriel's story, its Adrien's story Gabriel should be saying, "ok this is my future daughter in law, what do I do", this is who my son loves, how do I acknowledge he's found love despite him being in my control? well this should inspire him at the very least to bond with his future daughter in law, and he's also going to be a part of her side of the family as well as he also buys into Tom, Sabine, and Rolland as well He also is going to be a part of Tom and Sabine's immediate sides of family as well in addition to them, he would be in the role of grandpa to future children his own son and his daughter in law would be having, him and grandpa in the same sentence is also wrong considering how he operates To bond with your future daughter in law share something you both have in common, she's good at baking and can help you improve your cooking skills as you generally don't engage in too much of that by yourself let alone on your own near at all, or if at all and she can help you come up with recipes that you both would be proud of and can share You're both good at fashion, you're the trained pro and can be a mentor to her, operate mentor to mentee be it the experienced man vs the aspiring protege Collaborate together, come up with a line together you both can share and learn from one another's approaches and design styles, idyllic vision kept just out of reach vs connecting to people. create something where its the best of both worlds A key to it all is learning from one another, celebrate each others successes, learn from failures, build one another up, don't denigrate and tear each other down. lowering self esteem solves nothing, the poor girl has already been through enough primarily by you If she can stand up to you and stand strong and stand proud, I'd commend her for it instead of discouraging that even though you're not used to it openly if the bodyguard has acknowledged her as being as tough as Nathalie, of course he's scared as he's looking at both Gabe and Nathalie No I forbid you, no Gabriel you forbid nothing as teenagers are going to love who they will and love as they may Marinette asking herself at the end of the exchange what she's done, well you stood up to Gabriel/your future father in law and didn't back down from his threats, and you made clear how much you love and care for his son That alone is worthy of respect She's shown great strides like respecting him as a parent, and has acknowledged he's not one to exactly like her or has problems with her potentially and that shows growth on her part as the person she once was is primarily Chloe enabled which contributed to those problems the first time if we look at derision If she's moved past those feelings and approached this as she has, it's worth showcasing that growth and progress That later point of yours, I'm going to say yes he is self projecting onto her as he absolutely can not fathom anyone else other than him loving his own son for who he is and not his image He was hellbent this whole time on convincing her she's in love with the idea of him, and not the real him for who he is She cares for the real him, Gabe fails on seeing that as per usual He can't fathom the fact either his son has chosen someone who knows the right words to say and how to say them better than he would ever be either, and has acknowledged his son is determining destiny on his own I'll break this down further, yes this is a grown shameless man who doesn't know of shame the emotion pushing his 50s at best literally threatening a literal child Marinette took control here and took control knowing she can make her own choices, and I'll go further they aren't going to be dictated by Gabriel "dick of the year" Agreste She also having been put into Adrien's position for the first time of having to obey directives given by others, experiences this and finds it hard to understand it She disobeys Gabriel, took charge of her destiny, goes up to Adrien's room, hugs him, Gabe forbids it, as again you forbid nothing....so on, promises to never abandon Adrien She makes a promise, she keeps it. it shows how honorable she truly is and can be The couple is a good fit for one another as they both know what it is like not to be in control of their own lives, more prominently him as he's amokized, she isn't which Gabriel knows very well if she's willing to give love another try, that's wonderful No she's not one to let Gabriel decide what's given to her and what isn't, she knows she's in charge

It is hard for me to keep track of what is a leak and what is a spoiler since I haven't been able to see the majority of the episodes that have been released outside of the US, but I think it is safe to say that this show is setting up a comparison between young Marinette and her choices and young Gabriel and his choices. This scene may be more pivotal than we know. There very well could be a similar scene with Audrey where Gabriel chose differently. To be honest, I hope that Marinette gets out of the fashion business. She deserves better.

I believe that the reason Gabriel didn't want Marinette to date his son is because she reminds him of himself, his old self: an aspiring fashion designer who also wanted to pursue a love life with someone who came from a wealthy family. Gabriel always believed that he had to give up his morality in order to both be with Emilie and become a successful fashion designer. If he were to allow Marinette to date his son and she still manages to become a successful fashion designer without sacrificing her morals, it would mean that he didn't have to become the man he is today in order to become a successful fashion designer and be with Emilie. He'd have to admit that he was wrong the whole time and we all know Gabriel is too proud to do that.

Even though I have no sympathy for Marinette, I guess her final words to Gabriel was iconic, but suddenly it felt so generic… I feel like she’s resting at first but apparently it sounds kind of weak… NO I’m not saying Marinette is weak. (Besides her panic attack) But Marinette only took back on him by making fun of his pancakes. Gabriel, on the other hand, roasts that girl not only about her but her life and dreams WITH his pancakes.
