Just wanna vouch for hairstylists out there I being one of them. We don't tell people how to look to be in charge of our clients. We go to school to learn about the different face shapes and features and how to compliment them with hair. Ultimately it's up to the client if they want to go against a professionals opinion but stylists are there to make you look and feel your best.

as someone who got a pixie after having long long bleached hair, you will always have people telling you they missed your old hair and that you ruined it. however, it was one of the best decisions i ever made and it helped me become so much more comfortable with myself. do whatever you want with your hair because at the end of the day it will always grow back and wigs exist if you don’t like it some day

When you were talking about keeping your hair long for other people, I feel you! I had very long wavy blonde hair and people told me never to cut it because it was so beautiful, so one day I had enough and shaved my entire head. It was the best feeling in the world. I believe doing the olaplex system on your hair before trying the curly girl method would be best as it may help the condition of your hair first and thus help the curls look nicer. The longer you can do the curly girl method for the less frizzy and more defined your curls will become. Sierra Schultzzie did the curly girl method and documented the progress it is a great resource if you are considering cultivating your curls 😀

Some people really need to hear that it's OK to not do what others expect of you, even if it's seemingly small like your hair style. Yes, I agree and that is nice to hear. I am constantly experimenting with my dark brown mixed-natural hair, or however you call that, as well. No matter what people say. It's fun to me and it makes me feel good about myself. Also, public service announcement to the people who told her that: Just because you want somebody else's hair color there is no need to try and tell them how they should wear it. I bleach and dye my own hair and have for years! Olaplex NO1 is for mixing with the bleach/developer mix before applying to your head to lighten or dye your hair. OR alternatively, if dyeing with box dye, you can add it to a box dye mixture directly. You usually dispense a very small amount into the mixture (the units are easy to find online/I think they’re also on the packaging and leaflet you get with the product). Olaplex NO2 acts as a deep conditioner (it’s a bond strengthener) to condition/repair your hair AFTER bleaching or dyeing. So you wash out your colour like normal first and then use Olaplex NO2 like you would a conditioner. Olaplex is definitely the reason I can bleach my own hair at home, it always feel so strong and rejuvenated as if it hasn’t been bleached at all. I would never lighten my hair without it. Hope this helps!!! PS: So excited to see what you do with your hair next, you’ll look amazing no matter what you do!! ✨

As a redhead in a family of no living redheads, I had to go through the exact same thing. It was so comforting to hear someone else battling the same fight. I've had my hair shaved on the sides and "business man" style on top for 3 years+ dyed different colours but commonly red for 1 year now and when I say that I have never felt more like me, I MEAN IT. it's not suffocating me, it's not giving me headaches from ponytails, it's not unmanageable, I don't get sunburns from my head over heating, i don't have any frizzy hair from self care negligence, I can style it how it want to look. the oppressions and standards from FAMILY and STRANGERS... suffocating, people associating and comparing me to female redhead feminine standards, the "does it match tho?" convos while people look me up and down, the people borderline harassing me because they think my natural hair colour is fake!? None of that happens anymore, and I feel so much like this is who I am that I sincerely don't remember myself with long hair unless someone asks for child photos. If you are reading this I hope you find a realm of style that makes you feel so comfortable with yourself that you forget that you looked any different. I hope it makes you so confident that people don't even question you had looked any different.

The end definitely got me. I had hair down past my waist for years and years, then about 6 years ago I decided to cut it off. I faced a lot of backlash from those around me as my hair had lots of natural highlights and they thought it was a waste. When I first went to get it chopped the hairdresser wouldn't even go as short as I wanted! Thankfully with it shorter it was easy enough to get it shaved down and I've been messing around with dying for years (the short hair makes that a lot easier since I can just cut the colour out and start with fresh every time). Part of the joy of short hair for me does come with it being gender affirming, but there was also such a relief in finally doing what I wanted and not caring about others thoughts! It's such a great feeling to do what you want with your hair and so freeing. It's wonderful that you're at a place where you feel able to do what you want with it now

I actually just had a drastic change with my hair about a month ago (I chopped off about 18 inches of never dyed hair & donated that, and then dyed my hair bright pink and purple from my natural brown), and it really is one of the most freeing things I've ever done. Long natural hair is beautiful, but sometimes you just need a change of pace to really come into your own. At the end when you started to talk about your hair, I totally understood how that felt. I had such long beachy blonde hair, I kept it a way that my family loved, but was always jealous of other people dying their hair. Then, a best friend of mine dyed her hair teal, and had some left over. I did a little raccoon tail, and it started off this whole long journey. I'd cut my hair short, shaved the underside... I felt so liberated and finally like I owned myself. So im glad you are having fun with your hair, cause the perfect thing is that it does grow back, but its even funner to "destroy" it.

A fellow blondie, thick angel haired girl who my whole family looked at with wonder bcs they couldn't figure out how my hair quality came to be (it's from my dads side, lol) and they all had pretty thin hair, even my sister. So the pressure was on me to never cut it and never color it. Luckily on ninth grade (in finland that's like 14 yrs old) i had a permission to go to a salon to get the ends of my hair colored bright pink and purple - - I LOVED IT That's where my coloring journey started, i've now done almost every color and then at 20 i finally cut it into a long bob for the first time, and then couple years later i had a very short blunt bob.. Tbh I didn't love it at first but after a couple days the shock wore off and i honestly felt great having almost no lenght at all. Short hair gives me so much more confidence even tho it's currently very outgrown and i need to cut it :D Oh and somewhere during quarantine i gave myself an undercut and it honestly feels the most me i think i've ever felt with my hair!

I felt that ending so much. 20 years ago someone that loved me told me that my face was too long from ear to chin to wear my hair up and said I looked all face. I've spent every day since, even in the blistering hot weather wearing my hair not only down but covering as much of the sides of my face as possible. The same person also told me a few years after that that me being blonde was mutton dressed as lamb (I was 25). I've been brunette ever since. It's a very hard thing to break out of so well done Alex, sod the damage, who cares as long as you're living your best hair life!

Any time someone says “I wish I could do that to my hair” I tell them to go for it, you’ve got one life to live and we can’t take it with us. My hair is currently short(bangs cut like mavis from hotel Transylvania) purple, with a pink streak in my bangs. I wear glitter in it daily, and I love being a mermaid. I love that you’re living your best hair life

I had a realization last night that my constant concern of you disliking something you do to your hair isn’t really me being concerned just because. I realized it’s because I have unresolved trauma with very close people saying “oh it’s ok” and then getting very very upset saying “no it’s not ok”. And then kinda dumping those emotions on me as a smol child. So yaaay I learned something! Which will make it easier to not panic when someone does something to their hair.

I love this journey you're on. Honestly, you do seem so much happier. Screw what other people think. Hair grows, people tend to forget that. Definitely take a year or two and play with your hair, change up your look maybe even do a couple crazy/silly spa nights. Self care means loving yourself and learning about yourself. Again I say SCREW WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK! You are a badass.

It's crazy that what people say, and think are such simple unimportant words can change how you think for years. And even crazier how something that seems so small like cutting off some hair, can change your view on your life, and lift you up. So glad we can come along your journey with you, while we figure out our own. 💕

I think the pixie cut will look so nice with your bone structure! I'm so excited! I do want to see you dye it black but it's so hard to get out. I dyed mine black in my late teens, early twenties and the process to remove it was terrible, but honestly your hair will be so short you may as well! I vote olaplex because I'm curious, myself. Currently my hair is bleached, very long and dyed arctic fox violet vixen up top and aquamarine at the bottom.

Hey Alex! You're beautiful whether you have your natural hair or not. Ive done every color and cut under the sun and so many people get upset over it, but it makes ME happy and comfortable in my skin. Don't even acknowledge the haters, because typically they're just bitter people who want to argue and can't find anything positive in anything. You're a ray of sunshine. 💕

I get the same thing for keeping my hair long, but I always feel the happiest when I chop it short (especially since I can dress more androgynous). Unfortunately my work industry is still quite a bit sexist so keeping it short is unrealistic from a professional standpoint right now, but it makes me so happy just watching you do all these colors and styles and just not caring. If I get into grad school, I'm chopping it off and paying stupid money to get it safely to silver (asian hair takes a lot of bleach/strong developer and not a lot of places in the US can do it without ruining the hair). Hope to be able to do crazy color combinations soon and fit confidently into the clothes you wear. We don't live long enough to constantly bend to the whims of other people. You do you.

I love that your trying different curly methods, but try to stay away from microfiber towels. They have plastic fibers, so it will cause frizz and will pull or break your hair. I am a cosmetologist, and I have had to learn how to work with all hair types, so I hope that this can help with getting more of your curl back. You look amazing. I love how confident you are even through all of the criticism of the internet.

I would love to see the Olaplex. To be honest, I think you might have left it too late as you’re meant to use it to protect/maintain your hair condition after bleaching rather than for damage recovery but I would be curious to see what it can do at this point, especially if you’re using the entire range. I would try curly girl on healthy hair, once you’ve cut it and grown it out again. As someone else said it takes months.

Honestly as a fellow red-head hearing those comments growing up was disheartening, especially when I had friends that could do whatever they wanted with their own hair (my friend Yvonne had such fried hair from bleaching, but she was happy!). When I could finally afford to do it I used a terrible box dye from Splat and did a purple hue. It was honestly so freeing! After that I started getting it professionally done and have never looked back. At one point I had three colors going in my hair and all my mother could say was "I miss your red hair" - well, tough nookies, its on my head and I'm the one that has to live with it. If you want to live your hair dye fantasy and get a Keira Knightly pixie cut I say DO IT.

After all you have done to your hair, that is a really nice initial curl (drawing out natural curls doesn’t often happen overnight). And the cut!!!!! As someone with curly hair, I’m sad everyone has encouraged you to keep it long because it can be so much curlier when shorter and lighter. I just love short curly hair. And I’m so glad you’re enjoying trying out all these colors and styles. It is fun to watch you explore different options and play around with your hair without taking it too seriously.
