Start with the colour- if you go black, you're going to want to dye your brows to match (I apply vaseline or a balm without menthol on the skin, and then use a spoolie to gently brush on the colour lighhtly so it isn't gloopy and there is no dripping). I actually don't mind the contrast of black hair on fair skin, but it will absolutely accentuate how fair you are- you may want to consider an extremely dark warm brown (Avoid anything with an ash tone- it will go completely grey in your hair). Once you have it done, you'll be able to make a more informed choice on the length. I think, judging by damage and texture in this video, you'd be best to cut it, but not necessarily into a pixie. A short, textured/shaggy bob with some textured cuts/thinning at the ends , even up into your fringe, would look great on you, and allow you to keep some of the length you're enjoying. I'd do an after-colour treatment, and use a daily leave-in conditioner, mixed with a few drops of hair oil, to help you recover some moisture. A moisturizing hair mist is also great! These products will absolutely wash out anything that is too light in colour, so using them on a dark colour like black shouldn't contribute to your colour fading.

I'm not a hairstylist but i heard that when coloring very light hair with a very dark color you should fill in the colors in between before doing it because some hairdyes will turn not black, but green or blue if laid on top of very light blonde.. I think the roots of your hair are probably gonna be fine with the black dye but the lighter hair may need to be colored with a darker color, like red for example in order to fill in the pigment before the black. I'm sure some dye brands might be fine tho, even on very light bleach blond! Maybe do some research about color theory with hair or something? But whatever you do Alex, it's going to be an entertaining video anyway haha :D

Im probably to late to the comments but i would suggest if you want to go black to first add orange to the blue. Orange and blue are opposite on the color wheel so they will cancel each other out. (Sometimes resulting in a kind of brown shade) if you went in just with a red you could end up with purple as blue and red mixed makes purple. The idea of adding red or orange to your hair before going light to dark is to have a more dimensional black color by adding those underlying natural haircolors back to your hair first. If you dont add the red/orange colors back first you end up with a flat "hollow" looking black color. That is the condensed color theory lol Good luck 🤞

I've seen a redhead grow out black, not by choice really just took a while until they could go back to the stylist, and they looked bald there for a while with the light roots coming through.

Here's the difference! The airwrap, when used to dry your hair from a totally wet state, will leave the texture smooth for dayyss and holds up way better when exposed to humidity. When you use a curling iron, you have to first dry your hair, then apply more heat, the airwrap doesn't cause as much damage because it doesn't get as hot as the curling iron, so you poor hair can have some mercy. And if you straighten your curly hair, the airwrap really makes it last, whereas drying and straightening will have your hair frizz and curl when sweating, or being in humid air, or whatever. The airwrap does soo much, I use the big barrels to curl my roots to achieve more volume if my hair is sticking to my scalp, it's so effective!!

this colour on you looks absolutely adorable and this is the best its looked in a very long time and the curls look lovely on you. Personally, i'd keep the colour just a little longer, and as for which is the better curler? I think your cheap one gives a much nicer curl than the dyson which just gave you big waves, the cheaper one gave more defined curls, you just need a wide tooth comb or use your fingers to soften them..... never use a brush on the curls

I’d say there is a caveat to this - I use a natural bristle brush when doing a brush out of my pin curls - its an essential step when creating a more vintage style and you can use the brush to shape and form the curls. But otherwise I agree Alex’s hair looks great!

Alex keep an eye out for second hand air-wraps. I saw one in my area for $150 on fb marketplace and it had all the attachments and had only been used 2 times. The person ended up with 2 by accident. Also checking in any buy and sell beauty groups could bring you some luck. And finally even just testing out unbranded ones or dupes could be a cool idea - especially for people who can't afford it.

Dye black first - cut later. Darker colours make hair look shinier and healthier despite any damage - there is a very good reason why people go from blonde to black when their hair starts snapping. It holds more moisture too. Add some hair oil to it and straighten it after dying it dark, and it will look much healthier - enjoy it for a while! Curl the ends under by tilting your wrist inwards towards your neck while straightening it. You can always cut later. Also, if you want your fringe to be a little easier to manage, cut the very ends with thinning scissors to give it a more piecey look ☺️ Edited to add - you might find the black needs some filling before you dye it to look *black*, since your hair is so light. You could add a dark blue under it first, or a deep red for a warmer black. *I studied hairdressing*

Department store Electrical Salesperson here 🙋🏻‍♀️ Lucy is spot on, but in Australia the Conair is listed as VS Sassoon (same parent company) and is called Unbound and then Thin Lizzy have also released one called the uCurl. Not going to lie - the design of them scares the s**t out of me with it sucking the hair into what I think of as a unknown black hole 😂 I’ve used the other style or curlers by VS Sassoon, like the Curl Secret, which I find way less scary 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also, with the unbound one that you used, Alex, you need to use smaller parts of hair to avoid them getting tangled. It takes a bit more time, but causes less panic. Side note - depending on the model, some air wraps have a cooling switch instead of a cooling button, which makes things a bit easier to use. * edited to add - the air wrap has insane heat control settings and you can use it to curl your hair without any heat as it uses the air velocity, as opposed to 210°c+ heat so it doesn’t damage your hair like conventional heat products can

Getting hair stuck in the pseudo-Conair device scared me, however the Dyson Air Wrap is SO expensive. I wonder, is there any middle ground? Is there a pseudo-Air Wrap out there that is more affordable? As for the hair cut, obviously not my call. Were it not for spilt ends, I would never cut my hair. One thing about the pixie cut, there is not a lot of room for error. So while I cannot advise to cut or not to cut...involve a highly trusted stylist if the choice is =,to cut.

Yay, you picked the dress I wanted^^ I think it really depends on the type of curls you're looking for. If you're wanting looser, more voluminous curls, Dyson, if you want ringlets, Wish. I have a Chi Spin N Curl, which I love because it's similar to the wish one where it pulls your hair in, so it's super easy to use, it's really quick, and it's hard to burn yourself with. But it only gives barrel curls so if I want looser or beachier curls I have to use something else which sucks cause I love it.

I prefer the airwrap side, BUT I'd never pay that much for a hair tool!! You can get the same look from large barrelled tongs for $100 or less. I say do what you like with your hair! I got the Dyson hair dryer abour 1-2 years ado and it's been the best decision I've ever made for styling my hair. A couple things…I have the Dyson air wrap and you had me thinking that the wish curler looked easier and maybe I should get one. The dyson isn’t the easiest to use, there is a steep learning curve. If you want to do the semipermanent black, a tip is to mix it w bit with brown or dark red (not so much that it turns purple) because it'll give you a warmer more natural effect rather than cold blue-black (and I personally think it'll suit your complexion more) alternatively you could dye it dark brown and then black over it

I used to work at a Beauty Store in the US and as someone who has an airwrap and sold many there are a few pluses I think you haven't thought of. 1.) The airwrap is a hairdryer, so there is no need to dry your hair first. 2.) it uses significantly less heat. less heat = less damage 3.) Dyson also has an amazing 2 year warranty, so if something goes wrong or if it breaks they'll send you a new one for free.

If you plan to cut your hair even shorter I don't think the air wrap is worth it, seems that the larger barrel size limits it to use with slightly longer hair. Second hand is a great idea though, if you can get a super good deal it'd be worth having when your hair grows back out. I'm so excited to see your short hair, but I do think it would be cool to see the dark version of this lovely bob first.

Alex, After seeing the birthday style which by the way you look fanfabtastic, amazing dress, yes you have heard this gazillion times from everyone but it's a wonder you haven't also done some side modeling gigs. Anyhoo, it's a hard choice because your hair looks very cute that length and with the added wavy curls I could really see how keeping it that length could be a lot of fun to play with and on the other hand going for the bixie cut or even another pixie cut style could be so cool, so ugh I say what if you put them into a hat and randomly chose it? lol. I just got a great deal on the AirWrap in the US, and used it for the first time tonight. It’s a lovely product, but I honestly think I can get comparable results with my cheap hot curlers, which I got for, like, $30 and are sitting in my basement! 🤷🏻‍♀️ The airwrap also takes forever to curl all my hair, as I need to section off just small sections of my long hair. By the time I get to the third layer, it’s less damp and hence doesn’t produce the same result. Whereas I can wash & and air dry my hair overnight, then set the curlers in the morning & then be free to do other things while my hair is curling. Even with the discount, I’ll likely return the AirWrap. I’ll try it again, but I don’t think it’s going to be worth the price.

BIXIE CUUUUT! Do it! Once I got my pixie cut back in 2018 I loved to more than anything, so empowering and almost freeing to get rid of all my hair. Haven't gone back longer since and always have a colour in my hair, I just chop it off when it grows out to manage the damage bits❤️❤️❤️

tbh I would NEVER trust a Wish electronic product, let alone put my hair in it.😅 I think there are a lot of legitimate viable options out there NOT on Wish lol, that do the job Dyson does for the most part. Also that beeping would drive me INSANE. 😂

Aren’t you cutting all your hair off? There isn’t really a point of getting the Dyson air wrap if you have short hair save your $700. Air wrap would be better for your hair because it doesn’t get as hot as your traditional curlers. I think just colour it black and then let the hairdresser chop it all off next week… leave them something to work with so you don’t have to shave your head? Edit: I really love the blue in your hair it’s such a pretty colour

As much as I have lived for this journey of destroying Alex's hair, and it really has been a godsend for me and just so much fun to join in on, I really think this length and style of hair just looks so god damn amazing on you! You are glowing! I hope that if you like it as much as I do you are able to keep the length you have now when you get to the salon. Regardless you will look fantastic! Pixie cut then grow it back to that length naturally? So then you can enjoy it being that length and healthy. When your hair is that short it doesn’t take that long to grow
