I just joined my local volunteer department in NE Georgia. I'm entirely green and learning all I can in preparation for taking Firefighter 1. Understanding the "why" is just as important as understanding the "how". I really appreciate this talk about the values of the fire service and hope I can develop the character and strength of mind required to serve my community. Thank you, Chief Lasky.

It’s a shame this video has so little views, this speech should be shown on the first day of every fire academy across the country. Hell, there’s CEOs who need to see this. Thank you Chief for sharing this.

Thanks for posting this Chief. One of my favourite FDIC keynotes and I’m sure arguably one of the best!

I commented last year when I joined my vollie department. I’m commenting again to let you know I start academy next week for my city’s career department (Athens, GA). I’ve been listening to your podcast a lot and I want to be an “old school” recruit who works hard and pushes himself to be his best always. Thank you for your inspiring content. It has helped motivate me as I move towards making a career out of firefighting/EMT service. You’re motivating as young guys!

@@chieflasky Absolutely, Chief. The fact you respond personally to these comments says a lot. I will come back here to report when I make it through academy and get on shift!
