Mr Darcy turns on the charm and offers Elizabeth and Mr and Mrs Gardiner to show them Pemberley himself. The Gardiners are delighted and Lizzy realizes she might have misjudged Darcy. They have a walk and a lovely chat, and she agrees to come back to meet the rest of Mr Darcy's family and friends.

_“There is also one other person in the party,” he continued after a pause, “who more particularly wishes to be known to you. Will you allow me, or do I ask too much, to introduce my sister to your acquaintance during your stay at Lambton?”_ Darcy offers to introduce Georgiana to Elizabeth, not the other way round. It was a compliment of the highest kind to Elizabeth as it implied that it would be an honour to Georgiana to meet her, despite the great disparity in wealth and social status.

He's more comfortable on his home turf and realizes he may have a shot with Lizzie after all since she came to see his home. It's such a sweet but small detail, but he runs down the steps with eagerness, only to straighten his overcoat/vest to seem more proper. A nice indication that he's going to attempt to show Lizzie how he's trying to change.

@@racheldollton Mr. Bennet wasn't at all a great father. He basically ignored his younger daughters, favored his older ones, took no interest in parenting and had a terrible plan for his daughters' futures. This is regency England so Elizabeth couldn't just attend university and find a job as we do now so him just ignoring this issue was super irresponsible of him. His plan for his daughters' future was basically to have a son, a not to so great idea when we consider the high levels of maternal mortality back then and no guarantee of a son. By the third daughter, he should have given more thought to how he could save more money to increase his wealth for the future and his daughters' incomes so that they would be more attractive to potential suitors. While I love the 1995 version, they were too kind to Mr. Bennet and too unkind to Ms. Bennet.

This scene perfectly mirrors the scene where Lizzy walks to Netherfield to see Jane and she comes around the trees and they are startled to see one another. One of my favorite scenes! And Lizzy's aunt is just THE QUEEN of shipping when she says meaningfully "Can you not?" :D :D :D By the way, only in this scene have I noticed how nicely the cut of Mr Darcy's coat emphasizes the figure. Okay, so I have always been a team 2005 P&P fan, and don’t get me wrong I still am. However, the more a grow to understand Jane Austin and Pride and Prejudice story the more I adore this rendition. It is far superior to all that has come before it, and when it comes to storytelling and staying true to the source material there is no others that comes close. In saying all of this, I still adore the 2005 adaptations for its filming and locations as well as the film score. I also adore the witticism throughout the film. So I am most definitely team both, I think they both have their place in canon.

Seeing that Mr. Darcy has a hard time socializing, I wonder if that's why he specifically gravitates towards people like Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Bingley and the Gardiners. All are very "out there" people, of a "what you see is what you get" kind, unlike a lot of other people in polite society. To someone who has a hard time interpreting social cues, those kinds of people are much easier to interact with.

My interpretation is that Lizzie and Georgiana are the two most important women in Darcy’s life - the woman he’s in love with and his younger sister. Of course, he’d want them to meet each other. Even though Lizzie has rejected him, she’s still important to him and, at minimum, is a social acquaintance of his. Since she’s in the neighborhood, it makes sense he’d want to introduce them.

I used to think that visiting the great houses was a modern phenomenon. I didn’t realise that in their heyday they were open to at least some members of the public.

Jennifer Ehle in this production reminds me of Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark. Before she married Crown Prince Frederik, she was Mary Elizabeth Donaldson of Hobart, Tasmania in Australia.

It is quite surprising to anyone that he is nice towards them. The Bennetts were very nice to Darcy from the beginning but he was the arrogant one insulting them and arguing with them every chance he got. If it wasn't for lizzie openly telling him that he was a douche to everyone he would never have changed. Being kind to someone and doing the right thing are two different things.

I love Elizabeth’s look introducing her family to him, just waiting to see him acting like an ass again at the fact that not only is she introducing the family he verbally abused but also bringing up Jane staying in London. Honestly he pisses me off. He deserved much more than the verbal beating she gave him for the way he acted. Reading the novel made me wanna get in there and kick the shit out of him.
