@@Bada_Boom78 At 1X the reticle is small but you're really only using the horseshoe. That's why it's quick, put the horseshoe on target and squeeze. You'll see when you get it, works great

@@Bada_Boom78 No, the reticle is black when not illuminated. On low illumination levels it probably looks maroon but it is black. I guess it depends on your eyes, I've got 52 yr old eyes and I see it fine on 1x without illumination. It's got many settings for illumination but I rarely use it. If it looked small to me I'd just turn up the magnification just a touch until I was satisfied. On the co-witness, not sure, there's probably some scope mounts that could get you to lower on third. I don't think you can beat this scope for the money. Good luck!

Just got my Raptor. I previously had the standard 1-8xacss. Right off the bat I noticed the glass is improved. Edge to edge it's just clearer. Most guys wouldn't feel like they'd need anything more clear. If you do, you shouldn't be shopping under $1k. Also the 1x as he mentioned here is very close to true. The eye box and eye relief are very generous. Overall you can use this as a red dot functionally. It feels more balanced to me on my gun. Not sure why but it does. Haven't gotten to shoot it yet but I loved shooting with the 1-8x so I'm really excited to get some time behind this.

Glad to see more FFP's in this category. SFP just seems silly when you have these fancy reticles that are only accurate at full power, might as well just have a fixed scope and a red-dot on top or the side

Eh, not really no. At only 1-6, being accurate at all subtensions doesn't really matter. You're only going to be using it at max magnification for longer shots, and at 1x none of the holdovers matter because the target is close anyway. If you're talking about at 20x or more, absolutely you want to be able to use it for everything in-between, but 1-6 is just not enough magnification for it to matter.

I may have commented on this video already, but I have this scope and it works. You get it sighted in and the ranging reticle works. I do wish they had the off switches between each setting on the illumination dial. So you don’t always have to adjust it back around. The 1-8 FFP has that. Great scope. Once you learn the reticle, you can rock with it. Nothing beats this scope for the price, and it beats a lot of other higher priced scopes too. I did get the metal extension ring for the 1-6 magnifier for ease of adjusting the power from 1-6 power and back. I’m so impressed with this scope. No math needed. No apps on your phone for bullet drop. It’s all in the reticle for the calibers listed. This will work for most shooters. Probably not for ultra long distance shooters. But highly accurate to 600 yards with even range ammo.

I understand the reticle design and I have one of the less expensive version 1-8 and I like it. I want another one but I want the big platinum one FFP. What do you think about this reticle? I am wondering if it would be more useful overall as a scope with the grid but I do want the ability to do fast shots as I had with the cheaper one. I think more in yards and inches so MOA would fit me better probably. First Focal Plane magnifies the Reticle and the cross hairs get thicker as you zoom to the higher power. Popular in Europe for hunting at distance the thick cross hair covers the target more than a second focal plane. Every power subtension is accurate throughout the power range. A Second Focal Plane Reticle Crosshair stays thin, the same from low to high power range. At a longer distance the cross hairs will not obscure smaller objects in the cross hairs as a First Focal Plane does. I used a Schmidt and Bender 10 power mil dot scope and any mil dot scope in Second Focal Plane is only accurate at 10 power for the ranges. So on a 20 power Mil dot scope those MilDot holdovers will only be good at 10 power in a second focal plane, I have two 4-14 Swarovski Scopes I take to the range. One is a First and the Other is a Second Focal Plane. For fine target shooting to zoom at 14 power at 100-200 yds , the Second Focal Plane crosshairs are fine to the target lines, If I do the same with the First Focal Plane it is harder because the crosshair at 14 is so thick it obscures the fine lines of the target. If you are shooting man size silhouettes then the First Focal plane is OK. Precise Grouping Zeroing is easier with a Second Focal Plane scope. To shoot a handgun out of someone hands with a First Focal Plane scope is hard in a Swat Situation. With a second focal plane and the crosshair being fine as it's zoomed in , you can do it a lot easier. Anyway I always hated mil dots in the service because the dots had a tendency to obscure targets and also mil dot calculations. Great and right on time video ...Purchased this scope yesterday at PA's shop here in Houston for my BCM Gunslinger 300 blackout after seeing this vid yesterday morning lol ,( actually got an open box for 100+cheeper than retail) Ive been running an Aimpoint pro which is a great optic ,but just turned 50 ,wanted something to be able to make throwing it out there a little easier and not into the 3x magnifier , tried it ....Having a BCM 9" 300 BO , which I run a Holoson on , I can set up my 16" for longer shooting/hunting . I have been looking for a while and not finding what I like , I will be honest,I love Vortex Viper pst series and thats what I run on my BCM 556 and matched up accordingly to my other rigs/rifles , buy they had nothing to my liking for 300 BO .... I am not a fan of alot of business going on in a reticle, and most PA"s optics are too busy for me , however , ....the reticle on this scope is absolutely perfect for what I wanted for 300 . Ran a bunch of mags through it last night getting it sighted in and having fun , The first focal plane puts my retical pretty close to a red dot , putting me on target/center mass quickly at engagement and then getting me more precise using the magnification . The measurements on this are spot on , It does make ranging , as Dimitre said , keeps it simple !!! I couldnt ask for more .My only negative is the illumination , no shut off between settings and 1-5 are pretty much useless and yes , 11 is obnoxious lol , but for the price , its workable ...So glad I came across this video yesterday morning , much appreciation to both of you !!! You are quite good at explaining things, but I'd like to see you or Dimitri supplement your review of PA scopes with more detailed illustrations of how well this reticle does on "movers" as compared to, say, the 1-6 SFP PA scopes. Of course, you'd need moving targets that accurately mimic walkers and runners. If Dimitri & Co. could set that up and get it filmed well, Primary Arms could sell a bazillion of these scopes. Quick ranging and acquisition of stationary targets is great-indeed, really great, but a system that targets movers is the future for such scopes. Just a suggestion. Need to design or modify the ACSS to be able to project holdovers in addition to the reticle, another knob that can zoom/move/expand to overlap the reticle for holdovers for your load so you don't have to memorize anything.

I have the 6x ACSS and it is an awesome scope. In my opinion much better then an ACOG and I will tell you why. This is something that I have not heard anyone explain on a review video of the scope. This ACSS scope can be used on 1x as a close range red dot. With both eyes open, just like you would use a trijicon MRO or any other red dot. Then if need arises you can use it as a long range scope. It’s the best I have ever seen. Try doing that with an ACOG. I have one, and don’t see what the hype is. Eye relief is terrible, on the ACOG. This primary arms ACSS really is the future. You can use it at close range and long range. Best scope I have.

Great comments and agreed. I have this scope in 1-6 on an AK 74 Arsenal and it really is all that. I'm getting another one for my new Vepr 74 and next is the new Cyclops on my MKA 1919 shottie. These will definitely not be my last PAs scopes, just have save up my pennies!!

michael leon -"youve never heard it explained on video review" that the PA 1-6x ACSS can be used at 1x as a red dot and 6x as a long range scope??? thats the whole reason for its existence and others like it. its 1x CQB capability along with the ACSS reticle system is the whole reason PAs popularity has skyrocketed and 1x by whatever scopes are the leading segment in the industry. that its not mentioned in every review is the same as not mentioning the fact that magnified optics give a better view over iron sights. its common knowledge. 1-4x, 1-6x and 1-8x scopes are the best battlefield sighting implement to come along in quite a while. ditto for competition. its their very nature of offering both 1x red dot like capability for clearing houses and such and higher magnification to reach way out or hit normal distances with precision and speed that make them great. and yes, the ACOG simply cannot do that.

Spare battery-- genius. I got the PA 3x ACSS a couple months ago and really enjoy the system. And it's a great value, too. This is gonna be my next optic, for sure. I would love to put it on my favorite rifle... but it's an older BCM with the A2 front sight gas block (Mid/16"). I noticed you shooting with what looked like a mid-length and A2 setup-- Any comments? Is it pretty much out of the way in the lower 3rd with that free mount? At 1-2x the reticle is small enough that there's no obstruction? Not "ideal," but I like the rifle too much to change it 😁 Great info, thanks.

I’m trying to decide on a lpvo for a lightweight, 6lb-2oz, build that I can use for almost anything. For me weight is an issue and adding 2-3 lbs of crap is not what I’m looking for. No I’m not a tactical operator or swat officer, but I do want a rugged shtf optic. What is a descendant lightweight optic mount for under $600. I live in the wide open spaces of New Mexico where shooting distance can be as far as a cartridge is capable of or down to cqb distance. PA, Steiner, Vortex, Burris, Leopold, Bushnell, ect......?????

Great video. Primary Arms seems to be leading the way with respect to optics innovation. Would it be possible for you to review the DI Optics EG1-C. Korean prism optic with Eotech style Reticle reported to hold zero after being run over by a truck 6 times.

What is the glass quality like? Kinda of surprised that wasn't touched on. Seems like the perfect optic for my woods deer rifle but I'd like to know how it stacks up in quality to some more expensive scopes like the razor HD. Is it fog proof? Scratch Resistant?

I really appreciate your going in to details regarding the function of the reticle. I'm still learning about scopes and I got a lot of great information from this video. I didn't realize that scopes were paired to calibers, is that true for all reticle designs?

no but all reticles (most) can be paired with calibers/loads if you know what you're doing as a shooter

Great video , Great Primary Arms scope! I would love one of those! However, if you want a good simple,cheap AR scope that hold up to any caliber I have found, has clear glass, a simple reticle, and weighs almost nothing? I have ran this for almost 10yrs. Get yourself a Weaver FFP 2x7-32 #849399 Its a great optic for AR's, simple fine X reticle and quick 2-7 magnification, and holds zero on everything I have put it on. I have 3 of these and they never quit working. This is for the guys who cant afford the high dollar stuff. Its usually about $129.00

What barrel lengths for the different calibers were used to calibrate the BDC for holdovers? I am guessing that it was probably a standard 16" barrel for 5.56mm. But if you have an SBR wouldn't this change the holdovers due to a lower muzzle velocity? Basically I'm wondering about the accuracy of the BDC with 11.5" or 10.5" 5.56mm due to lower muzzle velocity with a standard military 62gr round. Also what about the 300BLK ballistics with supersonic versus subsonic and barrel length?
