As of 2019, there is a 1-6x Gen III as well. A lot of the 1-8x's advantages came from the fact that your 1-6x was an older model without some of the refinements Primary Arms has made in the last few years, so I have to wonder if the 1-6x Gen III wouldn't be just as bright, just as good on 1x, and just as clear. It also has the chevron as standard instead of the dot.

There are surprisingly not many reviews on the 1-8x scope, thanks for such a thorough video on these! I have their ACSS Holosun with a magnifier, and really like the chevron reticle. I'll probably pick up one of the 1-8's to try on my BCM upper. Very helpful!

Thanks for the PA SFP ACSS review. A very important point you made was that ranging is made at full power, whether 6X or 8X. Ive the SFP 1-6X calibrated for 7.62x39, atop a DB15 and a PA FFP 4-14x44 ACSS-HUDDMR atop a DB10D. Love them both. My SFP 1-6X for the 7.62x39 does not illuminate any more than the chevron, as seen in your video. Id have liked to have the doughnut present, but it is what it is - dead on for 7.62x39.

Great comparison. I live literally 5 minutes away from Primary Arms and they have great customer service and definitely saves me on shipping or returns (I returned a mount for a better one last week with no questions asked). After the very thorough review I'm still torn on which one to get, but may get the 1-6 first and dedicate it to one AR-15 and get the 1-8 later for my other. Definitely plan on getting the 1-6 for my C93V2 after the RS mount is back in stock there. Thanks brother!

ive owned the 1-8x for 15 mos and 3500 rds. i absolutely LOVE it and wouldnt trade it for anything out there so far. its alot more scope than one should expect for under $400. for anyone interested- buy it! you will not regret it and theres nothing better or even as good out there. yes the Vortex and Atibal are the same scope and are excellent but they lack the amazing ACSS reticle. great glass, turrets and tracking,large FOV,damn near true 1x and a great 8x on top, its short,relatively light and has the best reticle in the industry. oh, and PA has excellent customer service and the new scopes have a lifetime warranty.mine has 3 yrs but im not worried.its solid as a rock. the only minor drawback is the eyebox does get a bit tight from 5x to 8x but it is manageable.it will only be a problem if firing from an awkward position.otherwise its just fine. overall its excellent.dont hesitate to buy this scope.youll LOVE it!

Scout Dog They only work on 8x. The new Raptor 1-6 is a first focal plane so they work on all magnifications. The 1-8 is a second focal plane

Scout Dog - Second focal plane scopes with BDC/ranging reticles are only calibrated at max mag. First focal plane BDCs can be used at any mag setting. PA now has both FFP and SFP versions of both the 1-6x and 1-8x ACSS scopes in the SL (silver) model lineup. IMO SFP makes the most sense for a LPVO. If you need to use the BDC your taking a long shot and would be best served on max mag anyway. Being able to use the BDC on 3x to 5x is nice for run n gun but 5.56/.223 shoots so flat out to 300 yds, you dont really need the BDC and therefore even the SFP models work fine set on 3x to 5x inside 300 yds. Beyond that youll want max mag anyway. Plus the SFP reticle is always the perfect size while FFP reticles tend to be too small on 1x and too large on 8x. The 1-6x model doesnt have quite as much difference in reticle size from 1x to 6x but its still an issue. Advantage-SFP!

Thanks for the great review. I have two of the PA 1-8x SFP. I purchased them primarily for the ACSS reticle. One is mounted on my 16" AR10 and the other on my 16" AR15. The glass is good for any price point and excellent for a budget scope. I agree the 1x is about 1.25 and not distracting. Like you said my only complaint is the limited eye box at 6-8 power. I really need to have my head in the exact spot to get a full field of view. The 1-8x has been great for hunting in the thick woods of north Georgia. This year I took two deer with it and my AR10. I typically keep it on 1x when moving and 4x when in the stand. You would be hard pressed to find a better all around scope anywhere near this price.

georgia bowhunter - i agree. i love my PA optics. i have both 1-8x ACSS scopes, the SFP and the FFP platinum model. and i also have the PA 4-14x ACSS R-grid scope. i plan to buy the new PA 3-18x ACSS R-grid 2 when it is released. that will be the long range optic for when i need a bit more precision beyond 800 yds on my DD5V1 currently equipped with the platinum 1-8x. i too am a Georgia boy. i shoot in Blueridge. ive got a decent 550 yd spot about 8 miles out hwy 60 towards Suchess. where bouts you shoot?

If I want to use one of these for hunting where my max shot is 350yrds. Do I want 1x4 or 1x6?? Does acss come in any of these or will that determine for me?

Matthew Beaver -the original SFP PA 1-6x and 1-8x ACSS are intended for tactical use though they can be used for whatever including hunting. i use both my 1-8x scopes, a SFP and FFP platinum for everything including target shooting with excellent results. but PA has models specifically intended for hunting like the ACSS orion in the 1-6x. im not sure if available in the 1-8x. PA has released the new ACSS reticle scopes now such as the. SFP griffin and FFP raptor. you first need to choose between SFP and FFP, then choose the reticle you prefer and then the mag range. other than those features the main difference will be a slightly larger FOV and eyebox in the 1-6x and slightly closer view of the target due to the additional mag of the 1-8x. also the entire reticle is illuminated in the original 1-6x and only the horseshoe/chevron in the 1-8x. of the newer models i believe they are all like the 1-8x with partial illumination but im not 100%. if you tend to shoot longer distances the 1-8x might be best. if closer range the 1-6x may be best. PA does have a inexpensive 1-4x scope but i think youll be better served by the higher mag models. i dont think the 1-4x is the same quality.

Matthew Beaver - an even better choice for hunting especially longer range like 350 yds is the PA 4-14x scopes. it comes either with the tactically oriented and 5.56/.308 caliber specific ACSS HUD DMR reticle or a all purpose mil-dot reticle. i have the discontinued 4-14x ACSS R-grid. its a great scope and was only $270! unless you need CQB capability provided by the 1-6x and 1-8x scopes, the 4-14x may be a better long range hunting scope. PA also has the awesome new $499 3-18x scopes that have several reticle options including the ACSS HUD DMR .

Primary Arms, LLC Does Premium 1-8x (30?) have a better eye box? For moving multi-gun sports the eye box on the 1-8 budget scope is a bit too tight IMO. Update: also, covered at end of review. I also have the Gen1 1-6 with the 7.62x39 BDC on a Saiga SGL-21 and it works great there. Thanks for the great review Mr.G&G.

I have the 1-6x for 7.62x39mm/300 Blackout with the horseshoe /dot reticle. Fantastic scope. I use the RS Regulate on my NPAP with Magpul CTR stock. I usually leave mine between 5 and 6 setting so I can quickly go from off to 5 if necessary.

Mike ...... really enjoy your videos. One question I have about the ACSS reticle that no one seem to be able to answer. When using the SFP platform, can you explain exactly how you range the reticle. From what I understand, you must range the reticle for distance at 6X first. Once you determine the range, will the BDC be accurate below 6X? Or is the reticle and BDC only accurate at 6X meaning the scope is used primarily at 1X and 6X? Thanks.

From a video that Mrgunsngear did awhile back the *Gen3* 1-6 ACSS is now daylight bright like the 1-8 power. So you can go either way. Another thing to note is that 1-6 will have a more forgiving eyebox than 1-8 but obviously it's a trade-off for not having 7x or 8x zoom --- but if on an AR15 I think 6x is fine. YMMV

I love my 1X6. I have really bad eyes and I have to turn the eye knob all the way to the left. I rarely use the illumination during the day. The etched reticle is all I need in the bright sun.

hey brother!! After watching another of my favorite channel beat the dog balls off their PA micro, and it still held zero, I was hooked. got the micro in the beginning of summer, and its been on ever since. will freshen up the battery in spring. Also jumped on the 223 1-6 with the acss reticle. this is a beast. only complaint is I wish the range estimator would brighten with the rest of the reticle.

I think they probably went with the non-illuminated range estimator because it eases rapid acquisition as a red dot type sight on 1x.

For years we've been asking Primary-Arms to incorporate the 1-8x24 5.56 reticle into the 1-6x24 scope but they won't listen to the market so I've had many friends going to their competitors. Just don't know what their problem is over at PA.

What up GNG. After looking at all the different 1-6x scopes, I'm going with primary arms' 1-6x acss. Then, use the Burris pepr1 mount w/ rails on top, so I can throw my aimpoint h1 or md-ads on top. I'm using my 8" aero precision 300 B O (147 gr ) with a specwar 762 for coyotes. 😁

Thanks Mr. G. Good video. I bought the PA 1-6x24 during the holidays. OpticsPlanet ran a good deal. I'm happy with the scope. I differ from your review in that I like the clean dot versus the chevron. I also consider the ring around the center dot as a quasis CQB red dot. I didn't hear you comment on the quality of the glass relative to say the Vortex Strike Eagle. How does the glass compare to other scopes?

juncho1977 - the 1-8x. same size/weight with truer 1x, 2x higher on top and better illumination. and these PA optics can definetely stand up to battle conditions. i doubt they are ACOG indestructible but theyre not far from it. my PA 1-8x ACSS SFP has been through a bit of abuse over the last 2 yrs and 6,000 rds. ive broken 4 scope caps and 3 mag adjust levers off of it and it hasnt even noticed. theyre a lot tougher than people give them credit for. btw i also have the PA platinum 1-8x ACSS FFP model which is also AWESOME! but as great as it is, id still choose the SFP model if i could only have 1!

Great channel brother! I'm always checking in to see new videos, if I'm only shooting mainly 50-200 yards which would you recommend? This would also be replacing the primary arms advanced red dot I currently have on. Mainly CQB and target shooting.

buttsilike1209 - the PA 1-8x, Vortex strike eagle 1-8x and the Atibal XP-8 1-8x are all made in the same factory from the same components. the only difference is minor styling changes to the turret caps etc and of course the reticles.

Hey Mike. Great work you've done here! Thanks man! If you dont mind. On the Primary arms 1-8 gen 3 acss sfp. Do you zero at max magnification? Im guessing yes ,so the bdc and ranging is correct. What magnification does the cqb/donut portion work at. Or accurate at. And do you need a specific magnification for the leads l/r of the donut? Im getting some conflicting answers on this. bowlingguru22 - Yes. it does. you may not notice it but the A2 sight does diminish the optical quality of my SFP PA 1-8x ACSS . Even as i zoom through 4x and can no longer see the A2, it was affecting image quality. Especially at night, there was a milky film covering the sight picture. Black shadows etc were more of a grainy gray and it was affecting the entire image quality by a noticeable amount. I replaced my A2 with the PRI G2 gas block/folding front sight on my FN M4/RECCE carbine and solved the problem. Optical quality is improved by perhaps 5 to 10%.
