@@PrimeTimeAquatics hello, I have 2 Oscar’s that are 3 inches. When I first introduced them to each other they locked lips and circled each other for a few minutes, But after that they follow each other everywhere and kinda rub on each other in a peaceful way as they swim around. Do you think I have a male & female or is this common for 2 males to show this behavior?

My oscars (3 between 5-7 inches) are with a blood parrot (4 inches), an arowana (12 inches), and a jaguar cichlid (6 inches). Do you think they will eventually fight? The arowana is the only fish that shows damage with a few ripped fins. They are in an outdoor 12 ft., 1,700 gallon heated pool pond. Once they grow a little more, I plan to add a redtail and maybe remove the parrot cichlid and then leave the stocking like that.

Had a pair of convicts only 1&1/2 inch long breed and trap a 8” Oscar in about 4 inch of tank. We had an Oscar in our 75g planted tank. Bought him as a juvie, knew he'd get big. But we needed something that would clean up a swordtail explosion. Baby swordtails were his favorite food. But by the time he got big enough to eat the adults he was big enough to hassle everything else as well. I don't recall having a problem with the plants. Most of our plants are planted near rocks, maybe that dissuaded any uprooting. He was a phenomenal fish, I'd love to get one again. But 75g is definitely too small. By the time you add wood and rocks there just isn't much room for him to swim. I'm not running a bare-bottom abomination just to fit a fish.

Prime Time Aquatics so I’m not the only one that’s good to know and also I’m trying to get into that I just started watching your channel you should make a video on breeding your peacocks cichlids if that’s what you meant by OB I’ve been breeding convicts for awhile. Wanna do something else I set up a 55 gallon long in my room could be a 75 gallon idk but I have sand some slate and a few flower pots. You should make a video on what proper temps what you feed them and how you know when your fish are getting ready to breed water parameters ECT. I’ve watched a lot of videos and just not everything is included one video. One will tell you temp but not tell you water parameters and it’s just hard watching all these videos so it’d be cool if it was all in one. I’ll be definitely checking out your channel this video was my first but I would love to see some of that. Thanks for the reply

I feel bad now because I was going to put a single Oscar in a 75 gallon but you say that’s pushing the limits and I know I’m not going to get a bigger tank than 75 so looks like I have to rehome this little guy he still about 5 inches
@PrimeTimeAquatics5 жыл бұрын
He'll be ok in there for a little while. If he is the only one in the tank you might have a decent amount of time before you have to do anything!

Help. I have two oscars but can’t tell if they are male or female they are full size about 12 in long. Had them about 3 years. But they have never had babies. They do every thing that a male and female would do. But no eggs. ..any ideas ..?!
@PrimeTimeAquatics6 жыл бұрын
The only way I can tell them apart is when they start breeding, based on which fish is laying the eggs. : -)

Yep, sometimes I come down stairs and he's sleeping on his side looking half dead only to race around the tank two minutes later.

I have a tiger Oscar he is 6month old he eat only dry shrimp if I feed him pellets he is not eating 2 days once i ill give him boilled chicken and liver is that correct
@PrimeTimeAquatics7 жыл бұрын
Some fish don't take to certain types of foods easily. It could just be the brand of pellet, or he may be used to getting the shrimp so he could be a bit suborn in taking the pelleted foods. Oscars often eat just about everything they can when hungry. I've never had any issues feeding mine. There are two schools of thought here - keep feeding the pellets until he gets hungry enough to eat them. Second - switch to something he will eat. Every fish is unique. I know I have some fish, if I give them a food they don't like they will just starve to death. You could try switching the brand of pellets too (I know that gets expensive though). Maybe just buy a small container to see if he will eat it?

I got a hint for all of you that love keeping fish. You can save a ton of money buy feeding your fish only dried mealworms. You can buy mealworms from stock feed stores for less than 8 dollars for 3 pounds compared to pet stores ripping you off buy selling you expensive feed. Go buy the same mealworms as they sell for chickens. I have feed my fish Thees mealworms for 10 years and they are very healthy and beautiful too. I never feed live feed to my fish. Live feeder carry deseed plus it makes your fish attack everything that moves. Mealworms are very healthy for your fish and stock stores sell them cheep remember dried mealworms the same mealworms they sell for chicken feed. Your fish will love them and grow very healthy too.

what is the biggest fish i could put in a 75
@PrimeTimeAquatics5 жыл бұрын
It's not just the size of the fish but also it's activity level, aggression towards other fish and tank mates.

Anyone know if an oscar and a bichir would get along? obviously would have to provide plenty of hiding places for the bichir and it depends on the specific oscar but any specific experience with that pairing?
@PrimeTimeAquatics6 жыл бұрын
The only concerns I see is the bichir would have to be large enough so that it can be eaten by the Oscar and that could get tricky since Oscars tend to grow really fast! The other thing to think about is the Oscar is a very aggressive eater while the bichirs not quite as much. Maybe someone else can chime in if they've done it.

what size air pump is that? i have the same tank
@PrimeTimeAquatics6 жыл бұрын
The pump is actually right above my head in the opening of the video. It's a Jehmco LPH45 and I have since upgraded to an LPH60. They're large pumps that are used to power my entire fish room!

RAGAV, how large is your Oscar? I have a friend who has kept a large Oscar with convict cichlids in a 55 gallon tank. Maybe add some feeder minnows when you add a species you want to keep. It may be enough to allow the fish to accommodate each other’s territories.

Can i keep two Oscars in a 75G?
@PrimeTimeAquatics5 жыл бұрын
Based on what I've experienced with my Oscars (size temperament, activity level, bioload) I would not keep mine in a 75 gallon because they would be cramped. Even my 125 is pushing the lower limits in my opinion. Just something to think about. People do keep them in 75s, but they get big and bulky. : -)
