Work release yea sometime but the rest of that is bullshyt. I did a bullet in a county & couple others for a few months here & there. ... alot of the video (not Larry's the original video) is crap also murderers and rapists have to go through County Jail also before they are sentenced so to say that they only hold people for misdemeanors is complete nonsense. If you're lucky they are just held on a violent block but if you haven't been classified yet then you could be in a cell with basically anyone for any crime even if you're just behind on some child support or something. I understand this varies country to county but this is just my experience.

As a former AP level student, Honors, and Rotary winner and as an ex-felon, I would say that anything they teach you about specifics in class is how it SHOULD work, how it was intended to work when set up, but it all breaks down when you add people (guards, prisoners, administrators etc.) to the mix. That allows corruption, ambivalence and ego to the mix. Things break down quickly like that. For anyone interested in getting into politics or the legal system, they should try to keep to the ideals of how it should operate and stop themselves from breaking down and accepting that the system is going to do what it's going to do because one person can't change it. It may be true that one person can't change it, but a generation of people who want it to operate properly can.

Man .. Larry I went to jail a few times in my younger years when I was 19-20 ..3rd time I went was 3 days and I was miserable.. years later when I was 26, I got hooked on opiates which lead to heroin.. and I was only scarred of two things at the time.. spiders, and needles .. needless to say.. I became a huge fan of a needle. I was lucky enough to have family 320 miles away from where I was at. You're not lying when you say your parents love you more than you know. They saved my life without a doubt. After I got clean from the H, I hit the alcohol way too hard a couple times that I rehabbed myself for twice. And the lack of freedom killed me in those 28 days each. Long story short.. I commend you on surviving not only Atlanta.. but your whole duration. It's amazing that someone can be as level headed as you exist. I've got nothing but respect for you and what you now stand for.

In NY, you are sentenced to jail (county) time on all misdemeanors and some low level felonies (E, out of A-E). You can up to 2 county years back to back, but I've only seen one back to back sentence. Anything else you are going to prison. Minimum time on prison is 1-3. Prisons in NY are pretty simple today, either medium or max. Max requires a minimum of 7 years (your bottom number on a split has to be 7). NY is pretty lenient, can smoke, lift, whatever...

In a world so full of misinformation, it can be damn near impossible to do what they are trying to do on a fully accurate level, but based on some of the reaction videos I've watched, it seems like they don't try as hard as they should to get accurate information, and most of their fan base seems to not care or notice. I supervised a county jail and worked state prison as well. While it can vary wildly I would like to clarify a few things Yes, Jails offer programs. We had a large Substance Abuse Program We also had mechanics shops, metal working shops, GED programs, community corrections programs, work release programs, and much more. Actually, more than the prison. The prison had vocational schools like barbershop, hvac, small engine, ged, etc, but so did the Jail. The jail also had CC, or Community Corrections/Custody, which allowed for inmates to be out in public on work release and job details. Often times mowing lawns, doing community work, etc. Some would go work at places like farms and factories and then come back at night. One guy used to love to gorge on junk food before checking in for the night so he didnt have to eat the jail food. Basically, we were a hotel for some. Also, Jails can hold many. My jail was around 600 or so, prison around 2-3K. We had three sites on our prison and a few "blocks" in our Jail. We also worked more with the community as a jail since we were sworn peace officers with full statutory powers. Meaning we could arrest you even outside the jail. Same full authority county wide as a Deputy Sheriff. We did do traffic stops and arrests, but only at discretion. Such as with contraband. Had one woman who tried to pass a bullet to one of my deputies and then left. We went after her, pulled her over, and she was booked in shortly after. Doesn't work that way in prison. We also had people being sentenced to jail. We had murders and drug dealers and all sorts. We had people, such as a neighbor of mine, serving long sentences. She was serving 15 years in the jail, not prison. With longer sentences you are more likely to serve in prison, but this is less about duration and more about type of crime. Felony vs misdemeanor. Just happens that felonies have longer sentence times. However, people are sentenced to the jail and not a prison. We also housed the overflow from prisons and transfers coming through. Would get shipments of prison inmates coming from DOC every week, sometimes multiple times. Had some people would call off those days, including a Captain, simply because it was a pain in the ass to book in tons of new inmates and get them searched and showered and changed over. Jail Vs Prison Its simple. Jails are small time and more frequent issues. Fights, loud inmates, drunks, people coming off drugs, etc. Prisons are more serious issues but long term. Stabbings, running drug rings and gangs from inside prison, Inmates in jail more likely to get simply injuries, like a broken finger or black eyes when they "slip" in the shower Inmates in prison are more likely to get serious injury or killed, but it won't happen as frequently. You are there longer, and while you do get "inmates" you have "convicts" which know its their home and treat it with respect. Its like a hotel. You are more likely to be rowdy and mess up the hotel room than your own home. As for corruption in the State Prison. I cannot vouch for federal, but I call BS on the state prison details. Sure, you have a smaller region and are likely to have some connection between multiple people, staff and inmates and otherwise. However, this is highly subjective. Corruption happens everywhere. However, the issue here is very case by case basis. Both are bad. Just different types of bad. Plenty of drug lords and gang leaders, rapists, murderers, etc in state prison. Had many lifers. I agree dorm style living sucks. You want your privacy and that kind of living sucks. The body odor alone makes it bad, shared bathrooms, no privacy, etc. Ive worked high security all the way down to camps or min security. Worked visitation for it all, protective custody, and more. Nothing like spending the day in a stab vest or ballistic vest and face mask. Stuffs get hot and annoying. its so much better when you have individual cell. Jail was mostly dorm rooms. People will go to isolation or PC to get away from the shared living as well. For medium. At least at the medium site I worked. People had free reign to go from their housing unit to the small yard and between units. Happened all day long, but would restrict and keep track of movements, and bring everyone in for count times. 10 minute moves were not a thing there. The housing units were doubled up. Like HU 9 and 10 in one block. They would share a small yard, which linked to the main yard. and from there other facilities. Mediums also do use cells. No dorms there. Has 128 max capacity per housing unit. With two housing units per "block". Even in the minimum security facility still had cells. It was more lax, but still had cells. Only dorm style I worked was some minor stuff in a camp, and in the jail. For escapes. You are sent back to jail. Ive personally been there to book in escapees and even booked in the deputy that helped. In prison, you get sent to another prison. Same for attack on staff or some other issues. Its not to increase your security but to get you away from whoever you attacked or may lead to more issues. Then the staff at the new prison give you a "welcome party" For higher security or even isolation, it is 23 hours lock down with chance for 1 hour rec and mixed time for showers. You do get out, but its not the main yard. For Gangs. Medium security is the worst. Not jails, min, or Max. Its that goldilocks situation. Jails have gangs, but mostly low time stuff. Min security people want to keep their nose clean because they don't want to move up and lose any privileges they have. Medium security you have enough free range to run things and enough permanence and motivation to make it worthwhile. In max, you also have a lot, but extra security can cause issues In really high stuff like PC, Death Row, etc you will find the opposite. I worked the "Thunderdome" nicknamed as such because of the gang activity there and the violence. This was a mid to max security facility. With things like death row and PC you are locked down so much and communication is restricted, that you cannot do much. No phones available to make all day calls. We brought a phone on wheels to your flap, and helped you call and controlled what happened. We fed through the flap, cuffed you up for showers and rec, and more. Not to mention on death row even the officers there would not worry about it so much. Some would be by the book, but many, and wrongfully so, would be complacent. You are not talking to anyone, you are locked down, you don't get a chance to be in a gang. So, even officers, bad on them, would get complacent and not even search well. Death row also had political and social implications since executions are looked at with a watchful eye. For isolation we had guys that would go there for one or two days and sometimes for longer. Ive stood by after breaking up and searching down for fights, and watched the jailer telling laughing inmates they were getting more and more time. Up to a year and more. He had a hot head. We also used isolation for mental health. Had one guy that was schizo and would watch people sleep, so we isolated him. What makes me laugh the most is all the times they refer to a "dining facility" or the food. Ive eating the food. Staff got free meals, and when you are broke its still food...sort of. Jail food was 50 cents a meal. Prepackaged is fine, otherwise nah. Working the kitchen makes you never want to eat again.

Hey Larry, great video as always. You should definetly check out (and maybe review) a movie called escape plan, with Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Very fun movie that attempts to take a deeper look at the inner workings of a prison from the eyes of the inmate.

With the MILLIONS of people who are imprisoned in the late, great, corrupt America, how often are they "misplaced" or fall through the cracks? I've heard of prisoners who have died simply because the prison system basically forgot about them. Recently, a man in LA died of thirst and starvation because he was not accounted for. It's bad enough they imprison us but they hire the most incompetent people they can find.

Prison,jail,or in Virginia,a road camp,I want no part of it. Confinement and total loss of liberty are not my idea of life. I’ve been trucking for over 42 years and I’ve delivered to prisons a few times,even picked up a load in one that had a sizable print shop,and that’s as close as I intend to ever get.

Well, jail is really nothing short of daycare for adults, lol.. Obviously no one wants to get locked up but I would much rather go to prison than jail. I mean at least in prison you have "freedom", or as much freedom one could have being locked up, not only that but at least in prison you have a job. There's jobs in jail too of course but in prison there's more and better jobs. For example: I was on what was called "road crew" so everyday Monday though Friday we would go into these really-really small towns - you're talking towns with populations of 300 people, lol - and we essentially served as the "public works department" for these small towns. We'd clear fields, pick up garbage, help set up for community events - not only that but the town folk were really nice people, and they'd order us pizza and stuff, they'd make sure we had plenty of pop and water to drink and all that jazz.. So when I was in prison I at least got out, worked outside, not only that but the facility I was at were dorms, so I wasn't in a cell all day, and we could go outside whenever we wanted, but if you're in jail you get none of that - you're essentially tossed into a 2 tier pod and you'll be in that pod until you get bailed out or you complete your jail sentence. Of course if you're sentenced to jail you can apply to work in the jail and if you do then you're transferred to the dorms, which is a little bit more liberal - you're not in a cell - but you're still locked up. Of course having a job in jail like in prison comes with benefits as well - like if you work in the kitchen you're eating much better and you can make whatever you want once you finish making trays for the other inmates, and trustees and laundry got commissary from inmates for doing favors, like running messages or hooking guys up with better clothing - I mean all jobs in jail or prison come with a side hustle.... But yea, like I said no one wants to get locked up, nor do I anticipate ever getting locked up again, but if I did I would much rather go to prison than jail - not only that but prison time is much less than jail time, look if you get sentenced to 18 months here in Illinois - you're only going to do 61 days in prison, and on the flip-side if you're sentenced to 364 days in jail - you're doing 6 months.. I mean when you go to prison you're getting 6 months off your sentence right away called "good time" and if you behave you'll keep that "good time" then on top of that you get day-for-day credit to boot, so if you're given 18 months, shave 6 months off of that for your good time and that's 12 months, then you factor day-for-day credit - well that's 6 months of "real time" and keep in mind most guys sentenced to prison time already have time in the county and you get credit for that so if you have a month in the county jail well that's 2 months taken off the 6 months of "real time", so you're talking 4 months of "real time" and here in Illinois if you have anything less than 6 months of "real time" you're only doing 61 days, why 61 days? because that's the amount of time a prisoner needs to serve for the prison to get a years worth of funding for you - and once they get the money, they're cutting you loose - especially if you're a non-violent offender, so yea here in Illinois if you're sentenced to 18 months or less you're only doing 61 days, and if you're sentenced to 366 days, it's pretty stupid but what they'll do is send you to prison classification and process you in and that takes about a week, but then they'll release you after that 1 week - you're going in then out in the span of a week... And keep in mind that the only reason why the county/judges do this is because they're sick of seeing you - they're essentially making you someone else's "problem", lol - they want you out of their county system so they're handing your case off to the Illinois department of corrections (IDOC)... Yea, it's funny how that works lol.. And again, once you're released from prison, then you'll be placed on parole (NOT probation) and parole officers are generally pretty liberal, especially if you're only going to be on parole for a year you'll probably only see your parole officer once over that period of time - I mean I saw mine only once, well twice because he did a home visit once, wanted to drop me (drug test) but I was honest with him and told him I smoked some weed, he was cool with that - I mean I only had a couple of months left of parole to complete so he wasn't about to send me back to prison for weed and only 2 months to go - but I did have to go to his office a month later and piss clean, lol - but as it turns out he was just screwing with me because when I went in I was ready to piss, he asked me if I had stayed clean I said "yes" and that was good enough for him, lol... Of course when you're released from jail you'll be released on probation if you have time left on your sentence and probation officers can be a real pain in the ass, they're far more conservative, they like to screw with people and they have absolutely no problem violating you and sending you back to jail, lol.. I mean where I was at the probation office was right across the street from the jail, so bringing you to jail was by no means a pain in their ass, but it is a pain in the ass for a parole agent because if they violate you then they have to personally transport you back to classification (prison) - and that's a 2 hour trip for them each way and you can bet they don't want to do that, lol and IMO, that's why you have a lot more leeway when you're on parole.. I mean I'm sure the circumstances are extremely subjective, but I would imagine parole agents are much harder on violent criminals that have 5-10 years to serve on parole and if they get violated they're going back to prison for a very long time which may be incentive just to violate them right off the bat for anything just to "dump" them back in prison essentially getting rid of the responsibility/problem - of course that's just a presumption.. But look, if you're released and you're immediately violating your parole I don't think any parole agent is going to tolerate that for 10 years, especially if the parolee was in prison for a serious crime.. But if you're a non-violent offender that only has a year on parole, you're probably going to be a low priority, and violating you just wont be worth the hassle - and chances are they'll stay away from you and you will probably only see them a couple of times over that year... So yea these are just some of the differences between doing jail time vs prison time and being on probation vs parole. Congratulations if you read this long post BTW, lol... Look, I kinda got into it and I enjoy writing so, lol..
@Swoop187OG187
@Swoop187OG187 3 жыл бұрын
Lol, yea I saw this video too and kinda laughed at it.. Look, Infographics videos are a fun watch but they're nothing close to an "authoritative source" on anything, lol.. Also, it's pretty funny how people cant grasp the concept of the differences between prison and jail - it's almost like morals and ethics, people have a difficult time understanding the differences with those ideas too, lol.. County jail is where you go when you've been arrested and need to see the judge for bond, where you go if you're being held on bail and cant post it to stand trial, or if you've been sentenced to jail time - which is anything less than a year/365 days. Prison is where you go if you've been sentenced to a term longer than 12 months, year or 366 days or more - then you go to state prison unless you're facing federal charges, but in that situation you'd go to federal prison.. So jail for all intents and purposes is temporary while prison is long-term.

I used to be a prison guard in West Texas, did it for about a year. Rec was rare, and denied often, but it was never as a punishment, but simply cause we were short staffed. I'm not gonna say there isn't corruption though, or bad officers, cause anyone paying attention could see it. Its a big part of why I left. My prison was a max. But our GP was both medium and minimum. Our trustees of course minimum, and most of our general population was medium, we had almost a whole separate unit to serve as our max side. Thoes guys were locked down 23 hours a day, 1 hour of rec, and any movements was in restraints, but they did get a basketball in their cages.
