It was right for the Romans to worry. In as much the same way I think it would have been very worrying for something as the Internet to be accessible to us all. What is the role of the Holy Spirit in Scripture interpretation?
@robertjasso66733 жыл бұрын
Very briefly,the role of the Holy Spirit is to help guide the reader ,to illumine, the bring back to mind when needed the words and concepts laid out in Holy Scripture. . The Spirit enables , anoints , quickens the body of Christ to function with its appointed vocations of prophets , apostles , teachers , evangelists etc. These ministries are set in the church to establish in the believer the whole counsel of God. So if your reading your Bible and you go off on a doctrinal tangent you square it up with the sound doctrine the Lord has communicated since Pentecost with that of those whose seal is clearly that of Christ’s gift to the church . The Lord raised up Augustine to refute errors in his generation , Anselm , in his, Huss in his, Luther in his , Bonhoeffer in his RC SPROUL in ours . If you belong to Christ you thirst after truth and that truth sets you free from errors and deception.
@nobleprince12383 жыл бұрын
@@robertjasso6673 Thanks for your answer. 1. Are you saying the Holy Spirit is sufficient to help the Christian stay in sound doctrine....or insufficient, hence we need people 'raised up' for affirming sound doctrine? 2. How would you know you're going off on a doctrinal tangent if you aren't aware of the existence of the supposed doctrine? Are you assuming ALL Christians implicitly know ALL doctrines before they embark on personal bible study/interpretation? 3. How do you identify "those whose seal is clearly that of Christ’s gift to the church"? Can a Christian read their Bible and agree with a Pastor who disagrees with RC Sproul? 4. Do you know of anyone else raised up to refute errors in our generation besides RC Sproul? 5. If someone told you RC Sproul is infallible doctrinally would you believe such person?
@robertjasso66733 жыл бұрын
Briefly , I see the Lord Jesus clearly teaching that those that are his hear his voice and thus by that logic we hear his voice in and through sound teachers/ leaders in the body of Christ . SPROUL is just one of many . Is there room for differences ? Of course on matters other than those that involve the tenets of the Christian faith . I highly recommend you read Knowing Scripture by SPROUL With a forward by J.I Packer . Also , Knowing God by J. I Packer .Jesus , ‘ Sanctify them by thy word; thy word is truth’.

Very interesting subject. The private interpretation I believe is also informed by the in-groups denominational interpretation . For example on the reformed "branch" a baptist believer will read into and out of the text believers Baptism only. However a Presbyterian believer will read into and take out of the text infint baptism with the hope/faith that the child will come to personal faith later. Martin Luther himself believed in Baptism as Being born Again the way the Catholic church and seemingly all the early church fathers believed and taught. One of the 3 are correct the other 2 are wrong . God knows.... But that doesn't help us. Any thoughts on this?

This was excellent. It brought to mind the debate over 1 Corinthians 11 and the early church practice of head-covering, which (as the text itself reads) visually symbolizes the establishment of the creation order and is to be done “because of the angels.” (V. 10) Paul didn’t assign a cultural reason for the practice, men (and women) did. I would love to see our church’s leadership re-establish this early church ordinance. Sproul once said that it is better to be overly-scrupulous with the text, than to be too loose with it. ❤️

...this brings me to the question of the Perspicuity of Scripture. The meaning of Baptism isn't so clear. It's ambiguous enough for 3 separate interpretations. Is the Bible the infallible voice of God interpreted by falable believers? For the Lutheran denomination it is a salvation matter. It's a work of God in Baptism - a believers obedience to be baptised and Baptise their children.

Be a Berean. They were commended. Read Acts to see why. Further to the claims of some re so many denominations: Protestants do NOT claim to be infallible or believe in a succession of men who claim to be when they speak excathedra. Never! Christians worship the God who is infalliable and the closed canon (66 books) which is the full and final authority and fully sufficient is their guide for belief and practice. There WILL be many churches because the church unlike the OT expression is NOT heirarcical. The physical theocracy has ended. We are not all disagreeing but for reasons such as sin, yes sin and geographical distance it is necessary for there to be separate congregations and denominations. Your comment is sadly so worn out and unbelievably embarrassing and so common. I have no other way to say it. Look at the number of churches in the NT that developed. 2000 years later of course that would increase HUGELY! THIS is testimony to the power of God bc all throughout the various congregations who are the elect of God constitute the church of God and SOME on church rolls will not be! Reader, is YOUR name written in the Lamb's book of Life? The Gospel is very simple: believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved. It HAS to be a belief unlike that of the devil. So for it to be real God has to be gracious to you, bringing life to your soul and granting repentance unto life. May God bless you in this way. As a footnote: The ONE of the ways for the RCC to be authentic and true would necessitate an unbroken line of apostles all speaking the truth and NOTHING at odds with the 66 books of the Scriptures! That has NOT happened! The RCC has introduced INVENTIONS and blasphemous rites and doctrines of devils that are so against the clear teaching of Scripture so as to become no church of Christ at all! Any TRUE believers within it need to come out urgently.

Speaking of erroneous teachers… where does Calvinism show up in the Bible? Calvinism makes no sense when God surely loves everyone and also allows us to choose freely. I’m saddened to hear Robert C Sprouls was teaching as a devout Calvinist. Does not scripture blow Calvinism out of the water with John 3:16?

The bible is the word of God . Jesus is the word! Jesus came in the flesh. God in the flesh. You sound very confused. Keep studying. 2Tim 2:15

Protestants philosphy is ultimate authority lies in persons personal interpretation of the bible. This is why there are 1000+ denominations in only a few centuries. They will say ultimate authority is bible but the bible does not interpret itself In eastern orthodox we believe in authority of the bible however you cant exalt your personal interpretation of bible over what the early church believed. I have also met many protestants who are pious and i admire and i can learn from however I disagree strongly with some of their beliefs.

And if your church establishes and maintains an error then 100% of you are in error permanently. In the protestant process there is opportunity for error but it is not institutionalized and therefore a greater opportunity for more truth to be recognized exists. This is the better of two fallible systems

@@waterman308 I will trust the church fathers where they overwhelming agree on something over my personal interpretation. Also when the bible was canonized, the people who decided what books make up bible would know the proper interpretation better in my opinion.

The Bible is very easy to understand, for example, it says clearly that Jesus is the only way to the Father, and the only mediator between God and man. It clearly doesnt say Mary is mediator and we should pray to her. The question is if you believe what it says or not.

@@Gordon_2000 If it is so easy to understand why is there 1000+ protestant denominations all disagreeing with each other on what bible teaches?

@@randomperson-gp8ph because we do NOT claim to be infallible or believe in a succession of men who claim to be when they speak excathedra. Is YOUR name written in the Lamb's book of Life? The Gospel is very simple: believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved. It HAS to be a belief unlike that of the devil. So for it to be real God has to be gracious to you, bringing life to your soul and granting repentance unto life. May God bless you in this way.

Ok; So, you sacrifice the principal message of God to love God with ALL your heart and your neighbor as yourself to get the point across? Or deny the personal ministry of the Holy Spirit in an individual's life? What happened to follow me ,as I follow Christ!!
