Here is a look at one of our Hawker Private Jets with no engines on it. The engines were removed for routine inspections, so we are about to install loaner engines to keep the airplane flying while our engines go through the inspection. I hope you enjoy!

Thank you! Always wondered what the engine mount looked like. In Aug 1988 a Botswanan Gov’t Hawker survived an air to air missile strike. Missile did not explode, but starboard engine was destroyed. Plane landed safely….talk about a positive example to the Hawker’s ruggedness. “ It may not fly as fast as a Gulfstream or carry as many passengers, but it can lose an engine and be able to land.” Patrick from Albuquerque

It would be great to see your aircraft without engines, cause you get to see what surrounds the magic. You see where the tech end of the aircraft and the $ is at. It's something alot of people take for granted but it's really just a magical piece that changes what your looking at to a flying beast!!

I'd wager just ONE of those engines cost 3x what I paid for my house in MA on 2.5 acres! Wow, that main brace there looks small given the weight and thrust those engines put out! I trust aircraft engineers FAR more than automotive engineers, though - case in point, just look at the latest Ford truck recall, where you can completely lose ALL steering control!! Real nice, huh? They cut so many corners they've lost track! Great stuff as always, Shaun - seeing how engines mount to a Hawker is probably something I otherwise would have never seen in my life. Much appreciated! I always love these Tech Tuesday segments. Good to see ya!

Luv tech Tuesday! Thank you. People may think the Hawker is "old school", but I had a relative that used to fly corporate in the Lockheed Jetstar. Now that's a weird tail/rudder/horizontal stabilizer set-up , but good history lesson about war to corporate flight. Thanks Sean.

Shaun, that might look scary but remember the shear strength of any one of those bolts is more than the weight and thrust of that engine. Combine that with the precision fit into the bracket and it is a tight sturdy package. I work on engines that weigh 40000 pounds in mining trucks and they have only 2 bolts in the front and 2 straps on the back but this is sufficient to hold something that hauls 400T.

Love your videos Shaun! Not only are those 4 engine mounts the only connection to the fuselage, but they are also transferring all of the engine thrust to the airframe, while at the same time accepting additional loads that can be caused by the centrifugal forces of the rotating core, that can change during maneuvers!

As a Diesel Technician you would be surprised on what actually holds a engine in place. My regular work involves a engine that is bolted in by four bolts and the transmission hangs off the engine entirely there is no cross member to hold the rear of the transmission. Combined weight “Dry” is almost 2000 lbs.
