Hi there! Thank you for being one of the only people I've seen on KZbin react to a Noir Desir song! I'm bilingual in French, and since you didn't understand the lyrics I thought I would leave you a comment kind of just explaining it in general. Noir Desir, as you correctly guessed, means "Black Desire", but in French, it should be reversed so I guess it should technically be "Desire Black". The song title "Le vent nous portera" translates to "The wind will carry us". The overall theme is that no matter what ever has happened, what is happening, or will ever happen, will eventually disappear and the wind will blow it away. He uses multiple metaphors in the song to kind of explain that whether something is tangible or immaterial, past, present, future, real or fantasy, everything will eventually disappear and be "carried off by the wind". Even though it is obviously a pessimistic song, it is quite beautifully written and has an almost bittersweet tone to it, both in writing and in sound. I highly suggest you look at some more of their songs, as they are usually much more agitated than this one. My recommendations are "Un Jour en France", "Homme Presse", and "Aux Sombres Heros de l'Amer"

Noir Désir was a French rock band from Bordeaux. They were active during the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s, and have had two albums certified double platinum in France and three certified gold.

A legendary french band which crashed, when they were on the top, because of a murder commited by the leader Bertrand Cantat in 2003 (he killed her girlfriend). Try the albums "Tostaky" (1992), "666 667 club" (1996) & "Des visages, des figures" (2001)

@@Urgul_GiantKiller the guy has serious anger issues. His old band members say he was violent with his previous gf too. No it's not by accident. The dude needs serious help. His wife was found dead, hanged in their home back in 2010-11. He was threatening her. Most French people don't know want anything to do with this guy. Back in 2004 when he was interrogated he said he only "slapped" her. That obviously was a big lie. He literally broke her skull with his fists autopsy says. She went to coma then died 2 weeks later.

You need to know who the main singer is. He has been convicted of involuntary homicide back in the mid 2000. He's beaten his girlfriend to death, a very popular French actress. He was sentenced for 8 years but only served 4 years. Upon release, he tried to get back on the music scene but French people still remember what he did and try to boycott him from giving concerts, just like nothing had happened. He's very NOT so welcome right now in France. But this song was before the tragedy. It's a good song one of my favorite of theirs. Since this was before the incident it's fair to react to this song. But French don't want nothing to do with the guy so you know. You might offend some french people out there for reacting even for glorifying his work. So be sensitive. Thank you.

Cantat also lied during the investigation. And after the murder, he went back to his ex-wife who then commited suicide. I don't know the man and I don't juge, and this doesn't affect the quality of his work. But this reminds us that we need to take a step back from the mumbo jumbo of moral lessons we often here in lyrics from popular bands or singers.

Hi, try to find the lyrics please. Poetry first here. The music is around it. Without understanding.. Good but nothing extraordinaire. But with the lyrics then its complete. I love this song highly, yes the lyrics in french are high quallty poetry. Just to say. I can't listen to other songs. What happened is too much. I can't forget it. Manu Chao is totally playing the guitar in this song, and if you know his music well you can tell right after the first few seconds :-) (you can double check this information on wikipedia or on the actual Noir Desir album, if you have doubts)

@@yoyooyooo5191 It's totally fine, you sound like someone who know and enjoys both band so I feel like I should tell you so you can enjoy this track even more ! (there is a little story behind, like it was improvised because Manu passed by the studio when Noir Desir were recording this track) Also the Manu guitar signature is strong as it sounds exactly like other intro where you can hear his guitar only (Clandestino, etc)
