I agree. The answer, it was easier and cheaper to do a re release of the Pro in a cheaper version with less accessories at a lower price point. The form factor is too big and heavy to clip the transmitter to the shirt. For that reason the Pro is a better deal with the charging case and pair of lavs. While I like the sound quality most people in the market will likely pick DJI.

Unless I've missed something here, this Go Gen 3 is just playing catch up to DJI"s Mic 2 system. It doesn't offer anything that the Mic 2 doesn't. In fact, the DJI Mic 2 can record digitally into a Sony camera using the intelligent hot shoe bus using the optional DJI to Sony camera hot shot interface. Its a tiny unit the size of a small coin and costs about AUD33. The Mic 2 also comes with a charging box which also serves top up the batt of the devices. Plus the Mic 2 has physical controls. I think this Rode Go Gen 3 is just a catch up item and is not worth getting if you're like me already have the DJI Mic 2 system. Also I hate to connect a device to an app to change settings. The DJI has a touch interface with a much bigger screen that allows you to change all settings without an app. This is ideal when in the field. I think most people can skip the Rode Go Gen 3.

More E-waste. They did NOT put replaceble batteries again, plust they are still big and bulky. It is just laughable how nobody talks about how bad their batteries are and how you can basically throw aways perfect mic and technology after 2 years because battery problems. Not to mention that you throw aways more than 300 Euros ( here in Europe ). I had 2 sets of wireless go II for my work and they all had the same problem. After the warranty expired ( around 1-2 years ) they start to fail because of the batteries. They randomly shut down, they can't charge more than 50%, the battery life is reduced more than 60%. These are just some of the common problems.
@chcomes3 күн бұрын
I lost my first one due to battery malfunction... I think they source quite bad batteries.
@mauriceschoenen3 күн бұрын
A quick tip: the problem is the same with AirPods and other Earbuds - if they stay in the case they will be always charged to 100%, which is bad for the batteries. That's why Apple has introduced the 80% limit on the iPhone. So I keep them outside the case for long term storage at around 50 to 80% battery and shut them down individually. I mailed Rode and they confirmed me this.

The basic audio specs are not quite as good as the Rode Wireless Micro, surprisingly. Many more features but the actual sound is slightly inferior according to the specs.
@TheRealRichardWong3 күн бұрын
hey Peter, oh that's interesting. What specs is not as good as the Micro?
@Ozpeter3 күн бұрын
@TheRealRichardWong The Micro has less self noise (by a tiny amount admittedly), likewise dynamic range one or two dB better, but it can handle loud sounds better, by about 10dB as I recall it. And it has longer range. But it's chiefly a matter of deciding on the necessary feature set - the latest model has far more features, if needed, while the Micro, while cheaper and simpler, is not a let-down when it comes to the actual sound.

@@Ozpeter Okay i just compared the specs, yes you are right the wireless micro has higher dbSPL, and some numbers (marginally) better. But the Go GEN3's range is much longer 260m vs 100m. I need to do some side by side comparison to see if the micro's audio quality is better or not.

Here in Germany the Go Gen 3 is actually more expensive with less features than the Pro and you don’t get 2 lav's included. No reason to buy them - at least not for that price right now.
@TheRealRichardWong3 күн бұрын
oh that's weird. I agree it should not be more expensive than the Pro.
@lustyd3 күн бұрын
@@TheRealRichardWong in the UK there's only £40 difference, but the Pro includes the charge case. Let's be honest, that's a required accessory if you want to stay sane but costs £89 separately. Then you have the other accessories like lav mics and additional clip options and I think you'd have to be insane to buy the Go 3 over the pro. Go 3 might be cheaper but it's much worse value for money.

So this is a cheaper Rode Wireless Pro without timecode and without some accessories in the package (like the mag clip)? Honestly though, settings only via an external application seems like planned obsolescence, really. Just like non-replaceable batteries. Shame. Is it still made in Australia at least?
@TheRealRichardWong3 күн бұрын
Aoyahi, yes as mentioned in my review, the Gen 3 is really more or less a cut down version of Wireless Pro. I am also not a fan of having to use an app to change some of the settings or format the memory. However, for "planned obsolescence", while I also don't like like relying on smartphone app, I feel the built-in battery will die much earlier than the app becomes unusable.

Rode has lost the market. It is huge and lights are distracting, 7h charge is just short of a full day so it does not give peace of mind, the windbuffs look flimsy like from their previous model, and the box is additional. Of course great sound quality, super that it is 32float, also internal recording, but they need to offer a more competitive product to survive.
@wanderlost.productions3 күн бұрын
I appreciate the review, but it just feels like you a reading off a specs sheet. Did you test any of Rode's claims? Wheres the real world, non-staged examples? I would assume as a reviewer with experience in the field, that you would test these things in a thorough manner as opposed to the controlled environments you use in the video (IMO, that outdoor test would fall under an optimal scenario).

I'm sorry but this is the most pointless release in the video tech space I've ever seen. literally just save up 60 bucks and get the Wireless Pros. You can't convince me that you need 32bit float but you don't need lavaliers. These are currently retailing for 299 and the wireless pros are 359 but you get way more value with the Pros package. If you wanted to get the go gen 3 and match the same accessories as the pro you would end up spending an abysmal $605 (2x rode lav mic II at $89.78 each, rode charger case at $89, 2x rode magnetic clips at $19 each). You spend all that money and get the sane quality, no additional or new features and in fact you get less cause these don't have timecode. These are terrible simply cause of the price. If you really need to convince yourself of 32bit float but you don't need any other accessories, just get the dji mic mini and a zoom h1 recorder.
