I think the problem with this camera is that almost nobody who has Pocket 4K, 6K G2, 6K PRO said "I need more quality picture from my camera". People need a different body design, reliable AF, cheap and easy to use storage, a bit more dynamic range, much better battery life. Blackmagic could design smaller buttonless camera with detachable 5inch tilting display, reliable AF, real 2-3H battery life, which would work with SD cards (for 10 bit h265) and CFexpress type B (for BRAW). They could made MFT and FF options with additional PRO line which would have builtin NDs, viewfinder and more professional ports like XLR and full quality output to video assist for additional redundancy or higher frame rates options.

Honestly, people that complain about the body style don't understand the purpose of this camera. At the price point, they're definitely reusing the housing that they've already designed to keep the cost down. In addition, no other camera offers the picture quality Black Magic offers with literally no rigging needed. Quite exceptional if you ask me! At the price point, you can buy this camera, a lens, & a CF Express card and immediately start capturing amazing footage! Not to mention DaVinci resolve studio comes with it for free!!

I'm really glad that they have the L mount because from what I've heard dji and Panasonic are teaming up to put the Lidar AF system directly onto the camera itself. If Black Magic can obtain a firmware update that can use the lumix lenses with the Lidar for auto focusing, then this camera is going to be an amazing gear to have.

Great video team! I'm extremely impressed by what Blackmagic has done at this price point. While I have my reservations with the design, to have RAW, full frame, open gate 6K for a camera that costs less than $4K Australian is something we could've only dreamed about a few years back. It's not for everyone, but it makes a true cinema camera much more accessible for many.

After the great tech of the 12K it's extremely dissapointing to see the same poor rolling shutter sensor from the S1H in here. Had they upped the price to $4000 and put the Sensor from the MAVO LF II in there I and many others would buy it in a heart beat. Also the removal of 1080p ProRes in full sensor width means it's unusable for a lot of work I do. Great image, but a step back in almost every other area.

Please Blackmagic, if you read this -- the form factor on this thing is killing us. The lack of ability to mount larger batteries, monitor, audio, etc. -- it's just not workable anymore for those of us who love BMD's color but can't show up to set looking like we just got our first DSLR. Create a box camera which we can customize and adapt and it'll crush the Komodo!

I was at an invitational event today which had the camera to play with and test out. The only thing I wanted to test is the rolling shutter performance since the numbers are a bit alarming. In practice, my concerns were justified. From 50mm and up the rolling shutter effect is prohibitively strong, I'd even say that it ruins the camera for anything else than static shots and relatively slow subjects. Everything else about the camera I love, the image quality, OLPF and the plethora of aspect ratios especially. This is a shame, since I'm a big fan of BM and use several of their products.

It's a bummer (although understandable) they don't offer this with different mounts. I'm so deep in E mount glass, and far as I'm aware, there is no L mount to E mount adapter even possible because of the flange distance. Honestly I'm very happy with my FX3 and FX30 setup for weddings and events and even short films (we all know The Creator was shot on and FX3 so it's no limiting factor in cinematic productions) but Blackmagic has always intrigued the creative side of me more than the practical side of me. I loved my Pocket 4k in controlled environments. Weddings it was a pain in the ass though. Just not the right tool.
@Samiam-mu5ln

The FX3 did not make The Creator great, I hate how content creators are so fixed on this because the production decided to use the same body that a lot of low level youtubers have. The FX3 is a great camera but will still be lack luster in the hands of untrained people
@focusedstoryfilmskc
@focusedstoryfilmskc Жыл бұрын
@@Samiam-mu5ln point is the FX3 didn't hinder The Creator. In the right hands it can look just as good as a much more expensive camera. It allowed them to shoot it small, fast, and with minimal crew to make the film they wanted within their limitations. Nobody is saying "I'm a youtuber with $0 I can make a film look like The Creator because I have this camera!" The point is, we're in a day and age where almost any camera in the right hands can be used in a real production environment.

The big issue that can't be emphasized enough, is that the transition to L-mount simply is going to take a long time, or could fail. Existing sunk lens investments are a controlling factor for this target market, adapters are notoriously unreliable, and L-mount currently serves mostly still photographers at best. (The assertion in this video, that there are tons of L-mount third-party lenses, is hilariously inaccurate.) I kinda resent the addition of the L-mount to the market, even though it was necessitated by the greed and closed nature of nearly all the other current mirrorless lens mounts. Sony and Canon need to lighten up and allow other camera bodies to use their mounts. DJI's shot at trying to use native E-mount was promising, but probably got bullied by Sony's lawyers.
@nigerian-nightmare
@nigerian-nightmare Жыл бұрын
We are talking about manual focus here, and I cannot think of a single adapter that doesn't work when it comes to manual focus. Manual focus works with even the most basic adapters. If you ask me, the L mount is a big win.
@AbdonPhirathon
@AbdonPhirathon Жыл бұрын
There is no reliable AF on this camera, so why would you expect adapters to be reliable? Not only that, but you’re gonna have to shoot manually with this camera anyway, so I don’t get how that’s such a big deal. Also, there is absolutely nothing wrong with L-Mount. Besides E-Mount, it has the second biggest native lens selection, so it’s not like BMD handicapped themselves by choosing the L-Mount. It was never going to be any other way.
@aaronharper444

I'm sorry but I don't agree with this at all. Adapters are not unreliable apart from Autofocus which this camera doesn't have anyway. A lot of the low-mid range cinema lenses have interchangeable lens mounts now and L mount options. Laowa Rangers, Dzofilm Catta, Meike etc.
@focuspulling
@focuspulling Жыл бұрын
@@carlyates2487 Adapters notoriously and randomly may deactivate metadata transfer, thereby focal length for effective O.I.S., and even aperture control which is essential. The majority of legacy Blackmagic users are adapting EF mount lenses, for example: not fully manual. You're all being very optimistic, and ignoring the majority sector of active lenses versus the minority of cinema lenses.

i just dont understand why they feel comfortable with foregoing the internal nds. theyre also discouraging a lot of their current customers who have invested in canon glass by using the l mount. sure, you can adapt it, but like you mention in the video the inclusion of the l mount limits the ability to have internal nds. full frame really shouldnt be enough of a selling point for people to make this leap. internal nd in a form factor this small was *the* selling point. maybe im wrong, i still have my bmpcc4k but i run an r5c as my main camera. if they had included internal nd tho and didnt go with a completely different lens mount i may have considered selling my r5c, and switching to an r5 for stills and getting this guy as my a cam

It's not the same to put internal NDs on a s35 size sensor than on a Full Frame one (over twice the surface area). FF is just too big of a size to do it cost-effectively. It would have implied a total redesign, adding significantly to the cost of the camera. Since for that reason there was little chance of adding internal ND on this FF camera, that open the possibility to change the mount to a more adequate one in terms of future proof (L-mount instead of EF). Back compatibility with EF via a simple adaptor made that a no brainer in my opinion.

It’s useless as a cinema camera it’s only 10 bit colour 10 bit. What the hell is wrong with these companies a true cinema camera Hass to have raw and Hass to have 12 pig color. None of the rest of the shit matters.

It's literally got everything you just stated it doesn't have mate. It's not 10 bit, it's 12 bit and shoots RAW. In fact if you actually watch the video, the camera ONLY shoots BRAW! Which is 12 bit...

You have no business commenting about a camera you have no knowledge of. It's no secret that Black Magic shoots RAW and 12bit.
