Hey Borp, just wanted to say thanks for sharing your techniques in your videos, it's really helped me understand neutral a lot better and made me much more confident in predictions and pressuring the opponent, mixups, etc. I play Little Mac on Smash 4.

The Marth spot was the funniest thing I've seen in a while. Thanks for that montage.

I've become interested in Melee again due to the rollback netcode update. I got into competitive Smash 4 two years ago because I tried Melee and liked it but the high APM stuff aggravated a chronic health problem I have. When I tried playing Melee yesterday the same thing happened. I decided that it still wasn't for me but then I remembered that there's this player named Borf or something who doesn't use L canceling or wavedashes. That player is you obviously and after finding your channel I'm going to try out Melee again. Thank you.

“The Marth Spot” part where people kept tech rolling in reminds me of the “take the throw” rule in street fighter: Rather not explode for _doing_ something else and just hope _you_ do something else

Does anyone have frame data about how the platform grab works? Is it just their hurtbox extending because they jump? I'm assuming this would be beat by hitting his shield on a platform

very interesting video, as usual. do you have any more information on tiny specific bad habits like in the first section? i never would've picked up on the spot dodge myself.

Hey, Borp. Do you still have the other borp tactics video? That was mine and my friends favorite combo video. The one set to “brighter than the sun”. If it was taken down due to copyright or something, Is there any way I could just get a copy of it?

I think, of all the wonderful tricks in your repertoire, run-up shield is the 'borpiest.' As melee players increasingly worship (unattainable) optimization, I feel many mid-level (and perhaps even higher level) players assume their combos and chases are air-tight, which backfires when they don't know what to do in situations that are not frame-data-guaranteed. Recognizing what's truly guaranteed or not is easily one of your strongest points. Best of luck at Big House! Apologies once again for being one of the people who accidentally misinformed you when your pool time was last year... I still feel bad about that.

Thanks, Noah. Wonderfully said, as usual. I totally remember last year being only Vikram's fault, so don't worry. Can you think of any other little signature things that I do that would be good to put in the next video like this? I only thought to include the first tactic in this video because you brought it up.

Hmm... You often bait counterattacks with moves that have low cooldown (like sheik dsmash), spotdodge, then counterattack their whiffed counterattack. You also shield at the ledge when edgeguarding, then grab them out of their unsafe recovery attack (your famous set vs sweet's marth springs to mind). There are also things like crouching with puff a tech-distance away from where your opponent lands, but you're not the only puff who does that. I think the true borp strat is making your opponent shake their head. You could do a montage of borp-induced head shakes.

This isn't a specific trick/tech per se, but you're good at disrupting the 'a priori' rhythm of the game. People go back and forth on offense/defense, and you make moves when it's 'not your turn.' You might hit someone, and they'll autopilot to 'now I'm on defense;' when you don't attack, even though it's 'your turn' for offense, they do something thoughtless and get punished; then, just when they thought they'd figured you out, you do attack when it's your turn to do so, disrupting their now adjusted rhythm. You're definitely not the only player who does this, but I think it's a core portion of your style.
