i see you put thought into everything here, i just want to point out something that may seem minor but which i absolutely appreciate is the quick slides at the end, not dragging it out as you know most people pause to read this, and if you drag it out, you'll just make us wait after we unpause. very nice editing, fitting music and epic clips!

The Heart of Speedrunning. To approach perfection. To do what no one else has ever done before. The Wright Brothers must've felt it. NASA as well. TASing really does feel like space travel. You calculated everything, and you made the inputs. Now you let the thing fly and see if it desyncs or not.

You were beat down by poop. This line alone makes this video a masterpiece. Your melee videos are always phenomenal, but I especially treasure your more artistic/philosophical videos that touch on what makes video games resonate with players. I go back and rewatch An Ode to Exploration every few months. I hope you too appreciate the irony of you, of all people, making a video that celebrates wavedashing (among other things). Regarding shinesparking, my understanding is that it has always been an intentional inclusion, they just never explicitly instruct the player on how to use it (kind of like l-cancelling and z-cancelling). It might be different for fusion, though; I've never played it.
@ProbablyBorp
@ProbablyBorp 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Noah. That really means a lot, what you said about Ode to Exploration. About a year ago, I spent a lot of time working on a sequel to it, but I couldn't make it work. I just couldn't find the right music or a satisfying way to tell the stories. But I'm gonna try again some day. I actually didn't know all that stuff about shinesparking even though I played Metroid Fusion. I think the thing in the video is an even more specific, niche thing, though. Vikram actually told me about it. There's this like minute-long, very difficult sequence of shinesparking into slopes that leads to a sequence break. And I think the developers caught it before release and acknowledged it with a secret message. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJaupnpjfryob5o I'm glad you said something about the irony! You're the only person who did. I'm not sure if that's because everyone else thought it was so obvious that it's not worth commenting on, or they just didn't notice.

Hey Borpably, I've enjoyed watching your videos for a while. I like thinking about their concepts and like your choice of music. Also, I've tried to implement some of your techniques in SSB, it's been pretty fun. In a lot of games, especially some of my favorite ones, I feel like I really connect with these parts (meaning movement/engine exploitative things). I'm not sure if you've ever played Mario Kart Wii, but some of the exploitable physics in that game lead to some crazy scenarios, like climbing the mountains of Mushroom Gorge or flying off of a wall by just barely touching it. Recently I feel this has led me to enjoy puzzle games; My favorites are structured around these kinds of revelations about like, random crazy things that I didn't realize were possible, but make total sense.

I've always fought for games being 'art' is not some pathetic attempt to make an immersive movie; it's an art form all in itself. From coding movement to employing it and making it your own. That is what games as an art form should be.

Amazing video as always. Enjoy you covering concepts in a way that aren't typically covered. Any chance you going to Big House? I still really want the chance to play you. It's been a dream of mine since I started playing Melee to take a set off of you. I finally think I'm good enough to do so. Currently, I'm at the highest win streak of this online season at 46 set wins. Despite playing for nearly four years now, I've still held your playstyle to the core of my gameplay. Truly are an inspiration to this day

William Owens thank you! now that I think about it, there’s one exception. I have really pleasant memories of me and Pannen, when we were kids, trying really hard to jump to the ice island in Mario Kart 64 and finally succeeding. So I wanted to include that in the Mario Kart part of Ode to Exploration. So I asked Pannen to TAS it for me in Gran Prix mode, since then the penguin’s on the island. And he did that for me
