Product Test: Ozark Trails 4000 Reel Surf Fishing

After watching a video by @RadReelingFishing about this reel I decided to try it out for myself. I'm not being paid to test this reel, I wanted to find a lower cost option for my clients that is partially sealed for saltwater use. I was really happy with what I saw. Check it out!

Love watching these reviews on the sealed saltwater OTs. I watched Rad Reelings video too and decided to hop on walmarts website yesterday and caught the clearance deal of the century on these reels lol. Was able to pick up a 4000 size and a 6000 size for $17 each. Great backup reels for that price.

Hmmm interesting. I’m pretty thrifty when it come to fishing gear which is why I almost exclusively use those barrier 2’s. They’re sealed and pretty much indestructible for about 45-55 bucks depending on the size. U can get em at some Walmarts or Ace / Hagan outfitters. I use the 6000’s for surf fishing and big boy reds. Very nice info, thank you. I enjoyed that.

It is tsunami shield spinning reel. Have both, they are my loaner reels. I surf fish with higher end reels.

Only been a couple of months, but how's that reel holding up? Unlike most of my fishing buddies I work hard on not buying the emperors new fishing tackle (same emperor that bought new clothes that only fine people could see) I much prefer to get the most bang for my bucks especially with gear thats designed to catch fisherman. That said I just scored a sealed Ozark 6000 for $70. WAY more than I'd spend on any walmart reel. What caught me was a teardown vid that was pretty impressive. Should be perfect for the beach. I. Dropped in sand at the beach and it filled with sand. I would never buy another.

Sorry to hear that happened to you. Most reels that are not fully sealed are not going to do well if dropped in sand without proper care immediately afterward. If you still have it, I suggest putting it in a bucket of fresh water and let it soak for a few days to loosen up the sand and then hold the reel upside down and spray with light hose spray (not a powerful stream-that will push the sand further into the reel). See if that helps. you can take it to a trusted tackle shop to clean out the sand. If their price is too expensive than the value of the reel it might not be worth trying. It’s a good reel if someone needs something inexpensive to start with, but yes, it’s not fully sealed. Those reels will cost you close to a grand for one that can withstand being dropped in sand. Hope that is a bit helpful, and I do appreciate you watching even if you haven’t had the greatest experience with this equipment.
