i have gotten into the habit of deleting all social media apps (youtube, reddit, facebook) from my phone and only using them through my phones browser. it's much less convenient than the actual app and makes it harder to mindlessly binge content but still gives you access in case you need/want it.

Do Not Disturb mode on my phone changed my life. I remember having my phone with me whilst I am trying to work but I kept getting notifications or things come through my phone and I kept checking my phone. Once I started putting my phone in Do Not Disturb mode whilst working, I found that I was able to enter the flow state easier and stay in the flow state to complete my work. When being distracted prior, the struggle with working was that it was difficult to go into a flow state since I kept breaking focus.

Productivity trick: Sometimes I use the Forest app but toghether with the guided access option! I remove the possibility to touch the screen or go away from the app, unless i digit the code and this adds a lot of friction to disrdaction. Cause sometimes i just close the forest app and reopen it really quick when the notif comes that my tree is dying. I do this bunch of times so i can do everything without letting my tree die. Having to put in the code, let me have that two or three second where I think "no you have to get back to study". I also do this when i have to look at something on my phone for school (like a pdf), i use guided access so i can't go to other apps.

Focus mode on Samsung devices (not sure if all androids have it!) paired with do not disturb has been so useful for me! It not only stops notifications, it also locks you out of apps(except for messages) that you choose you don't need to access during your "work" or "me" times. It just serves as an extra barrier to pass in order to waste my time and it usually works in keeping away from those "lose yourself" apps.

I haven't used the DND mode even once on my phone. For introverts who maybe get a couple of notifications a week half of the battle is already won since the phone won't disrupt you often. Snapseed is a very good alternative for photo editing. Reminders and Notes are brilliant I must say. Those I use a lot.

My boyfriend gave me an awesome tip for email, instead of paying for a service. Since it's the start of a new year, he just told me to move all the old emails into a folder and label it "all emails before 2022". So now I have a clear inbox & can start going through the relevant emails that come in & unsubscribe from what I don't want. All while not being super stressed from the 2-3K plus emails unread in my inbox. Plus if I ever actually need the emails again I can still go back and find them.

My phone broke on Friday so this came at the perfect time. I wasn't planning to upgrade for months but thankfully it was paid off long ago so now I have so many loyalty offers that my monthly bill will be cheaper. Killer downpayment though :( Having it suddenly break has made me realize how much of a safety/comfort object it is for me, I hate walking around downtown by myself without it. Not being able to know exactly where the next bus is or send someone my location because I feel threatened is rough. Not being able to listen to an audiobook whenever I want when I'm used to being able to sucks, I used Scribd so much on my phone and I think it really does enrich my life.
