His reaction to everything is so much like my naive self. He’s so curious and I feel like he really wanted to be completely respectful. His curiosity is much like those of us that simply have no clue. I have learned about weaves, lace fronts and so many things about skin care unrelated to my own skin through clients willing to teach me. It’s a whole other thing. Different but the same. So hard to explain.

I can't watch anymore of this so I'm stopping at the 4 minute mark so I don't know if he does eventually correct her but I did notice he hinted at her but she didn't get the hint so at that point he shoulda simply said "Nyma you're wrong"

@Michelle H... How did you get that? What I saw was the both learning from each other and picking up tips... A professional doesn't have to be on the Hollywood set but can be right here on KZbin. It surprised me that he haven't jumped into the concealer trick when it has been out for so long and he is a professional.. Although when concealer came out it was to correct. So I'm baffled at what you picked up. There are different ways & tricks of doing things. Really you should have looked at the whole video and then gave an honest say......

wow your I fool if you think she barely had any makeup on. It’s called natural looking making it’s meant to be full coverage and not glam. It’s a lot of concealer and contouring and powder to hide any blemishes or tiredness. Plus she was on tv you have to have a lot of makeup on. HD makeup is full coverage. It may look like nothing but it’s definitely a lot.

A male make-up artist that doesn't overbake, overcontour, overplucked their eyebrows.. How refreshing. Now that's what you call, a *professional* . Watching him giving his insights just show you _why_ he's the deal (compare with the KZbin self proclaimed make-up artist).
@selty
@selty 6 жыл бұрын
Most pro MUAs outside of KZbin don't do that shit unless it's required (editorials, live tv etc) because most of the steps beauty gurus do look great in strong lighting but aren't really that wearable and very obvious and also do not last. Look at some of the actual pro muas on here like Lisa eldridge, Wayne Goss, Charlotte Tillbury... they all go way more subtle on the complexion and brows.

The level of humility that each one of you has displayed is absolutely astounding - you, lovely Nyma, by being willing to learn from a professional makeup artist, and Daniel, for taking the time to learn from you and your experience, and for being so open to learning new things. This video is a great testament to the skills you both possess but also, and most importantly, your characters. I wish more people in general could exhibit such willingness to learn and to listen to one another. 😍

In school, I doubt they have Beauty blenders. Maybe now they've incorporated a similar tool since the programs should evolve with the industry, but a lot of the very successful MUA when they were in school didn't have anything like that. However, keeping up with the trends and still learning no matter how experienced they are is probably what makes them good.

This was really informative and a much needed conversation. I love how you learned from each other. Nyma, your confidence and comfort is refreshing. As many others have said, the open dialogue, honest curiosity, and mutual respect were so, so refreshing to watch. It's just really nice to see a makeup video with no drama or shade for a change. I also really like your approach to makeup on the whole. Your look is so natural and flawless. I am definitely going to check out more of your videos. Funmi Oke I don't understand - what's the difference between deep and dark first of all, and what's wrong with being dark? I myself am dark-skinned and I wouldn't be offended if someone partly described my skin colour that way (along with say undertones, etc.), especially in the context of makeup, foundation or concealer. I want to find my correct match of course! A lot of people seem to agree with you, so if even one of them could explain this to me, that would be great!

Renata Romero I never said dark was derogatory. I love his choice of words and the manner in which he said it. To me, it had a romantic feel, and I love the fact that he used the word deep, it wouldn't have struck me otherwise.

Tech Blogger there's no reason one has to use a sponge for makeup - an actual Beauty Blender brand or otherwise. Makeup artists have been working with brushes mainly for years, and someone with classic makeup school training plus years of experience like Daniel might not follow the latest trends if what they're doing has been working well for them. Yes, tons of professional MUAs use modern sponges, but again, not required. You'll also hear Daniel talk about how minimal he tends to keep makeup because on celebrities with long hours and bright lights, too much looks awful... Especially over time. Oh, and he did say he would use a sponge more for finishing, but application and initial blending out is something he does with brushes. While I've watched working properly MUAs blend out with a dampened sponge, as with Daniel, I've not seen anyone go in with a sponge immediately and as the only applicator. That's something I've only seen on YT, etc. Just observations, but it's a personal preference, and not indicative of skill or anything. (He works for Dior, amongst others. Clearly he's done well for himself! :) )

Lisa Moon i was thinking it'd probably be hard for a professional makeup artist working on famous people, on sets and working with certain brands that it'd probably be hard for him to try different techniques since he can't really chance it not working out or trying to figure out how to use the techniques or different tools on a client and it not turn out or not last how the client needs and to use indie or smaller brands, collaborations or even drugstore brands that aren't highly talked about since he does work with certain brands and can't chance using a product that doesn't hold up or looks really cakey or falls apart within a couple hours. So it makes sense that he asked so many questions or wasn't familiar with different techniques or tools, it doesn't mean that he doesn't know his stuff because you absolutely can tell he knows his stuff and he is a fantastic makeup artist but he just can't take the risk of it not working out. Brushes work, the techniques he has been taught and has done for years do work and does last so it's safer to stick with that!
