The scene in the movie "In Time" which is actually a pretty decent movie, doesn't make sense on several levels. Speaking about casino royale scene, instead of analysing players' decisions, I would better mention that IRL players rarely shove all the chips, they simply dont have to. And in case of monsieur le Chiffre, he could just announce the call. Showdown - then dealer does the maths with chips and plaques. What if there is a choppot? They would waste tons of time rewatching the video trying to figure out which amount of money was put into pot by each player. Also, since Bond was the last one to raise he should've shown his hand first, not the last. And when all players show their hands dealer doesnt take their cards and make a combination with community cards.

Casino Royale is loaded with coolers. The last hand it is 4 handed and one guy has a flush.... the other 88s full.... bad guy Aces full and Bond a straight flush. That is after Bond got coolered with Kings full of Aces by Quad Jacks. Not very realistic unless you were a regular on Full Tilt before it shut down. Flop was like 853 turn 3 river 5.

During the final hand in Rounders, Mike never says "call" when Teddy goes all-in. He just sort of pushes his chips slightly forward and turns over his hand, declaring he has the straight. I don't think that would hold up in most cases, and his hand would be declared dead. Would it not?
@NeuroticNOOB4 күн бұрын
It depends on house rules if there is no betting line I guess. There are rules that consider a forward motion with chips a bet/call. If he goes over a betting line it is definitely a call though. You don't have to announce it verbally. Just flinging one chip into the pot would be fine too.
@NeuroticNOOB4 күн бұрын
Also I don't think your hand is dead if you reveal it in this case. There is no rule against revealing your hand heads up before you make a call.
@augustgreig94204 күн бұрын
Why would your hand be dead? And generally, you don't have to speak at all at the poker table, and since the bet put him all in, if he'd moved even one chip toward the pot and let it go, that would be considered a call. And people turn their hand over in situations like this all the time, and I mean before they even call, to try and get a read or a tell out of their opponent.

These movies are old enough to have stupid poker plays in them. Casino Royale was ridiculous. The BB at the final hand was 1million...there's a 5 and a 6BB stack all in after it checked to the river. First off why is a big stack limping with A6 in a 4 handed game? How did 2 players get to 5 and 6 big blinds this deep? Why are 2 short stacks with the hands they had NOT all in pre flop? A6 and 5-7 suited, both who have large stacks, can call 6 BB all ins pre flop. True its all Hollywood dramatic movie shit, but COMPLETELY unrealistic how it was played. Not to mention 4 big hands made by every player in the same hand.
@guidochristoph5350 Жыл бұрын
The Movie is from 2005 / 2006. The strategy back then was far away from what we know today. Calling Preflop back then was standard. In Reality a 4way Call Preflop with these hands would be normal + a 4way All In on the Flop wouldnt surprise me - back in 06. And tbh Casino Royale was one piece why i am playing Poker still today. Its unrealistic, but shows how cool Poker can be - even it will never happen to the most of pokerplayers in reality.
@ragnarlodbrok9186 Жыл бұрын
The shallowness of the stacks (along with the absurd stakes that don't exist anywhere) is definitely the stupidest thing about the James Bond hand. I guess, though, that even though Fedor is giving an expert's opinion, he can't make it absolutely incomprehensible to the non-poker audience by discussing concepts like stack depth and why putting in so much money with 75s that shallow is moronic. And then there's all the slow rolling. In a real game you would turn the straight flush up straight away, rather than wait for every other player at the table to reveal their hands one by one. But as you say, it's Hollywood, and the tension and the drama is the main thing.
