Programming a Key Remote (1998 105 series Landcruiser GXL)

Programming a remote can be such a frustrating process! In this video I will walk you through the process I took to successfully program mine! This may not be the case for every landcruiser or even every 105 series, but hopefully this will shed some light and help, no matter what year or series your cruiser is!

Thanks Will from the past. Worked first go for me (sorta). First 20 turns didn't, but after starting the procedure again after waiting a few seconds it seemed to kick into program mode about half way through the 20 key turns then all good! Absolute legend. 98 petrol 105 here.

Mate, your a bloody legend. I have just done what you did and I now have a working fob for my old girl. I have a 100 series and it’s a beautiful thing to know that there is young guys out there that are offering help to us older guys, rather than being ripped off by someone else. Bro you are a legend! I’ve had a remote for my 2002 GXL fzj105 for about a year now and kinda forgot about it because I was told by a key cutter that programming it was difficult. It took me 5 minutes to do it after watching your easy to follow video. You are a king 👑❤️

Almost perfect. I have the 2006 GXL, and when I had to reprogram my single button FOB, I had to go from fully Off to On 20 times before I could activate the programming mode. I then pushed the button on my failing remote, and then on my new one, and everything worked perfectly. I also didn't need to disconnect the batteries. So my process was - 1 - Door Open 2 - Remove Key 3 - Lock Doors using FOB 4 - Unlock Doors using FOB 5 - Insert key and turn from OFF to ON, 20 times, in under 20 seconds. (Indicators then flashed 20 times) 6 - Press button on Old FOB, (Indicators flashed twice), Press button on New FOB, (Indicators flashed once). 7 - Turn key ON to lock in and exit programme mode. Thanks again, without your video and instruction, I would never have got it. Everyone hates getting ripped off by locksmith thieves, when it is a relatively simple process. Like all the others, if you're ever in Ballarat I'm up for the first beer!

Thanks so much, I bought my 105 hzj 2004 six years ago central locking not working. Gat a new remote 18 months ago and gave up as it would not work. 15 mins this morning and bingo all working. So happy. Thank you.

came across this by accident but i ordered a remote from your link and got it programmed first go using your video and the original instructions in my factory manual, for those doing it timing is everything, its good to have working central locking after both originals died, thanks

Mate awesome info, brought the remote from you place in the East. Went out and first time following your instructions 👍 success 😀😀👍 Checked it all working while in the cruiser, Got out and nothing🤦‍♂💁 got in and it worked Worked out that if I hold the remote up high it works fine I think I need to check the aerial from the remote control box is still there 🤞 either way it’s working Thanks mate great video

Great video. After a few times trying on my 2010 gxl troopy I didn't have any luck but last night it worked and I think the trick for me was to have someone else reconnect the battery after the 3 min interval that way you can be in the car with the door shut and it worked first time. Not sure if it was done it but definitely seemed to help me

Hi Will, Thanks for the vid. I have a tip for you- if you replace the cr2032 battery in these fobs with 2 cr2016 batteries (same diameter but 1/2 the thickness) you can increase the range. I used to have to be nearly touching the truck but now I can be 5 metres away!

That’s a great tip! Thank you! To my understanding- there’s also a way you can adjust the range at the receiver module?? Not exactly sure but it’s just what I’ve heard!

Thanks for this. I have the module like you showed, now will order the remote. Legend! On another note, may I ask which aftermarket snorkel you use? I can see it's one which didn't require the indicator light to be moved.

Hey i tried this and it didn’t work. But here is the solution😃 Genuine Toyota Remote Control Manual says to turn from OFF to ACC 20 times after reconnecting the battery. This worked first time for my 2003 100 Series Landcruiser (turning from ACC to ON 20 times does not work many times) try it😁 cheers and good luck guys

Yeah I think mine flashed a heap because the bonnet was open. Sensor might not be applicable to all years

Hey mate I have no idea sorry. I think if you just look up a Toyota remote for a cruiser/prado/etc. then you should have the right one. As long as it looks like mine and has the Toyota symbol on the back

Good video! Ive got a bit of a funky problem that I think is not allowing my programming to work. My hazards don't work nor do they flash when the car locks. I assume this problem will contribute as the indicators have to flash for the programming to work?

That is an interesting question for sure… firstly, if you’re in doubt, watch my video on where to locate the wireless locking module. And secondly, do your indicators work?? Even if they don’t- it’s just acknowledging that you have entered the sequence. So you could correctly enter programming, but you may not have any way of knowing you have if the indicators can’t flash- if you get what I mean!

And yes my indicators work, I think there is a break in the wire from the flasher relay to wherever else it goes so I thought perhaps it's not working as the module cannot send or receive the signal through the flasher relay as part of the programming? I honestly have no idea haha. I'll have a few more goes tomorrow! Love your work, plan to turbo the old 105 soon :)

@@matthobbs5345 a few people have said they only had luck when a second person was connecting the negative terminal, so the drivers door could stay closed the whole time. Maybe worth a go? Hope you have some luck! This process is so temperamental. Cheers for the support! The HZ loves a turbo if it’s done safely! :)

Hey mate, have you done the 7 pin mod to your cruiser which allows you to unlock the centre diff in low range. I'm thinking about giving it a crack on mine pretty soon!

Have a scan through the comments, some people have said it worked better when they had a second person reconnect the negative terminal so the drivers door could stay closed the whole time

The indicators will flash 20 times to show that you have successfully entered programming mode

@@mrh22a it’s all really confusing 😂. I think it comes down to luck just as much as getting it all right. But yep basically get someone else to put the negative cable back on so you can keep the door closed, key in and spam it 20 times within like 10 seconds and you *should* be right
