They should buy even more P-17A with different configurations. Like remove 2 RBU-6000 and install Mk45 or similar Vertical launchers for more SAMs. And we have air defence frigates.. or place more Subsonic cruise missiles etc..

Both are underpowered according to that size,better they would have been equipped with: For Delhi Class/Nilgiri Class 76mm Oto Melara 32 cells VLS for Barak 8ER 16 cells VLS for Bramhos ER 8 cells VLS for 32 VL SRSAM 2 RBU6000 replaced by 16 cells VLS for VL ASROC 2 RIM116/2 Pantsir M CIWS 2 Kashtan/Palma 2 Triple Torpedo tubes

Sir but there's a problem with their armament 40 missiles are far too less Even if 8 of them are Brahmos Hopefully they will get additional VLS for VLSRSAM and LR-LACM It's the same problem with P15 A and B

The frigates should have 24Brahmos 290, 400, 800 km range 12 each and 64SAMs of 30,70,150,250 km range SAms . The Ak-230 must be replaced with a 10000rpm firing Ciws and RBU -6000 replaced with the 600 km range or 250 km range Antisub missile torpedoes . The bulky AESA radar needs to be built in the superstructure walls like American destroyers .

Our frigates and destroyers are modular in design, they have room for future missile induction as nirbhaya or brahmos 2. I have researched a lot, our nilgiri class frigates are best, better than any amrican or Chinese or western frigates, they openly acknowledge it.

Chinese have a very extensive manufacturing experience most of which is gained in the last 3-4 decades. They know how to efficiently source the materials and manufacture things at low cost in small amount of time in large numbers. Just because things are domestic doesn't mean they would automatically be less expensive than imports.
