🏠 Town hall turned into a surprise protest attendance. The public comment period went on for hours despite everyone’s time being cut to 60 seconds. I left early and followed the proceedings online - nine (!) hours later, the council approved a mixed statement which generally favored the people who showed up. Our city is now aligned with a bunch of others in the state, which we’re hoping will provide leverage at a higher level.

That's more in line with the far right talking points, but it's not imaginary that China is a security threat with our technology. I disagree with their desire to speed up okay-ing projects like Starlink and Project Kuiper, because I'm waiting to hear more about a study that suggests the satellites re-entry is damaging the ozone layer. That seems... Not good. 😅 That all being said, i did go listen to a congressional hearing where Brendan Carr (the main author; he's a former FCC commissioner) was testifying and he was going on about how he thought the Biden admin appointee was going to censor Fox or something...? Gonna have to rewatch again, but anyways. Oh and i forgot about the chunk about section 230 and their wanting to "protect children online" which is really just "not having lgbtq content online". I’m going to work to spread the ‘end of all farm subsidies’ section among my fellow agrarians. Subsidy reform is important full elimination will kill most small farms as they currently exist. It does not matter that "it's just a wishlist" or "it's not associated with " or "it'll never happen" Then if it really isn't an issue great, but shouldn't we still collectively wince and cringe at least at the audacity? Shouldn't we rebuke it as a civic populace lest someone somewhere believe the authors were serious. The authors who, mind you, still managed to write a ~900 page book together. Folks who have decades of track record in line with things already in that Mandate for Leadership, in fact seemed to have paved all the steps up until this point for such a document to make sense as a next step. If anyone could "accidentally" mistake it as a legitimate thing to be concerned about, either in support or against it, I think it's worth us taking our moment to just say, 'hell no' and the thing is, many people I have generally trusted and much of my own research have echoed this concern. Let's just do our due diligence and make sure that plans we believe would be incredibly destructive to many of the things we care for in this country don't even "accidentally" happen.
