I have been looking for this video for years. I am second owner, at 45000, and I now have 481000 miles on my truck. The few things that I have replaced in the truck would be, Water Pump, Alternator, Power Steering Pump and hose and Hydro-boost. It is a 6 speed, and is everything I could ask for. No real miss in the engine, just mileage and thinking about doing a full under cover rebuild. What would be the opinion should I open it, or leave it alone?

Start here: amzn.to/3AjMu33 This is the Archoil fuel additive and Oil additive. I absolutely swear by this stuff. Stiction is the issue with 7.3 and 6.0 injectors and the Archoil additive makes MAJOR improvements. I run a bottle in every oil change and a measured amount in my fuel at each fillup.

Thanks for your videos and responses to these comments. Update that might help some folks. Readers digest version! Truck smokes plumes, Powerstroke specialist says it failed compression test. Bad engine needs replaced $12,000. I seen your video and bought scanner. FORScan says # problem. Pulled injector and had it tested. It was over fueling at idle. Replaced one injector and truck no longer smokes.!!!! So your video and my gut instinct saved me 12 grand. So don’t openly trust mechanic shops. Not all are dishonest but not all are either. Im just about to wrap mine up. A couple of things that made my life easier. I used some much longer bolts with a nut and washer to replace the rear valve cover bolts. This way i didn't have to be a contortionist to tighten them back down. I also put the wiring harness on first, without the gasket. Then attached the gasket to the harness. This made it much easier especially on the driver's side.

Just curious, recently bought a 01 7.3, 265k miles on it. I’m having a slight few motor issues with it, she cranks and runs and drives. But she’ll throw “service engine soon” on the dash after driving 5 mins down the road. I’ve kinda ran my own little diagnostics test on it as I can. Been meaning to buy a scanner to run a buzz test. Talked to few family mechanics about everything. Just decided to go ahead and replace all injectors and valve cover gaskets, due to no service log of last replacement. What exactly do you mean at 24:08 “evacuating the cylinder” I’m just curious. An ive also read on the comments about “cleaning the bores out”. If you got a little time to explain, would be much appreciated. Very clean and nice video sir! Thank you!
@ProjectTimeGarage2 ай бұрын
The service engine light on these engines are really basic. Unlike modern engines, most of the time the light is innocuous. Every one of these I've ever seen will throw a check engine light. Mine does the same as yours, throws a light after driving for a couple of minutes. In my case it's the Exhaust Back Pressure Valve that is no longer there. It'll also throw a code that "the boost is higher than expected" if I get a heavy foot since it's running a larger tune. Long story short, It most likely means very little. The evacuation of cylinders refers to clearing out all the spilled oil that drains into the cylinders when you remove an injector. Basically, when an injector is removed, there is a fair amount of oil that will pour down into the cylinder and sit on top of the piston. If not removed, there is sufficient oil to cause major damage at startup.

@ProjectTimeGarage2 жыл бұрын
@@26nimbusdk time to start checking voltages on the passenger side wiring. With as much stuff as you've changed. Sheer luck should have at least fixed the problem by this point. You may end up having to ring out wires from beginning to end.

are all the injectors the same or is there one specific that goes in #8. if so whats the difference?
@ProjectTimeGarage2 жыл бұрын
For early 99, they are all the same. Some customers were complaining of a "cackle" at idle. Ford found that the #8 injector was making this sound since it's the last injector in high pressure oil rail. There was an updated injector issued to quiet this noise.
@richs65treebucketservice243 жыл бұрын
I see how to drain the oil out of the rail prior to injector removal , But what about the Fuel ....? Just let it drain down on top of the piston ....? And at the end of your video going down the road ..What is that big blue critter with the gauges and pressures it's tellin ya .........? Will the BAFX also give ICP pressure ......?
@ProjectTimeGarage3 жыл бұрын
Yep, don't worry about the fuel drain, there's not enough of it to really matter **IMPORTANT** make sure to roll the engine over with the glow plugs out to evacuate whatever may have drained into the cylinders before you button it all back up - It's just cheap insurance. The gauges were from a plain old android-powered tablet running a piece of software called Torque Pro (from the Google Play Store). It uses Bluetooth to connect to the BAFX OBDII Reader. Also, grab a copy of ForSCAN from the Google Play store too, it's Ford specific and gives you some bi-directional control over the ECU. Yes, you can see ICP/IPR and a lot of other stuff with the BAFX reader and either TorquePro, or ForSCAN.
So that tablet is running TorquePro? What PIDs are you running on screen? Speed, TransTemp,Boost, HPOP...
@ProjectTimeGarage2 жыл бұрын
From memory something like HPOP, ICP, trans temp, boost/MAP, Speed (GPS), RPM, Trans gear selected, Injection fuel used?, intake temp, FICM voltage. I think that's about it.
@ProjectTimeGarage2 жыл бұрын
Oh, and yes it's Torque Pro

If I have bad o rings on a injector will the Bluetooth device locate that?
@ProjectTimeGarage2 жыл бұрын
No, it really only buzzes the injector solenoids, so stiction (worn out injector) is about all it will pinpoint.

I love your videos. Did I miss something, what was the Archoil used for? I have a 2001 f250 7.3. Do you recommend buying Injectors from the same company as your friend?
@ProjectTimeGarage6 ай бұрын
I use the Archoil additave for my oil and fuel in all my trucks. I do recommend the injectors from Full Force Diesel. I've used a whole bunch of them.

Do you have anything on knowing if injector cup is broken?
@ProjectTimeGarage2 жыл бұрын
I have a video on replacing cups. If one is cracked, you will have diesel fuel in your coolant.

@@ProjectTimeGarage ok thanks man. I don’t have that issue. So I’m gonna go ahead an say my cups are okay.?? Have #3 and #8 throwing contribution/balance fault codes. Unfortunately gonna have to do all 8. Honestly was scared to do it myself. Until I watched your video, I Fersure can do this on my own with your video playing on the garage tv.!! Really appreciate it!

@@ttvitz0neshotv237 Yep, contribution has proven to be injector related for me more times than not. If not injectors, then compression is a likely cuplrit. If you have little to no blow-by, then it's probably an intector or 2

When you say ForScan is free....Do you have to purchase a device that reads the codes and how much is it?
@ProjectTimeGarage Жыл бұрын
First let me say that I'm in the middle of making a full-on tutorial on using ForScan and TorquePro in order to get data and do 2-way communication with the 7.3 and 6.0 trucks. That video should be out Friday the 3rd. Anyway, yes there is a bluetooth OBD2 scanner that I get off Amazon. I have about 5 of these things. Here's the link to it. amzn.to/3ZcKQJB

@@ProjectTimeGarage Thanks, Do you have a video on replacing the OEM turbo Ina 97?

i cant seem to get that app working on mine 😢, i have a 7.3 that has rough idle, hard to fire up, and white smokes when it finally starts , goes away when i drive it, please help!

Likely culprit is Injector O-rings, but there needs to be a lot more investigation before tearing it down, could be a whole lot of things.

I have a 2 part video series on the cups. Basically, I don't change them unless there is a reason. Most common reason is diesel fuel in the coolant.

I found there is a place here that fixes and recalibrates fuel injectors. Friend said it cost him around $100+ to have his done for his 4 cyl car. Thoughts on this type of service?

I'm skeptical that they'll rebuild the HEUI injectors for that price. The repair parts alone for those injectors is WAY more than $100.
