Sometime ago I replaced all of my injectors. I also replaced the undercover wiring harness/valve cover gasket. Took my time, and thought I did a good job. The truck absolutely refused to start. I have a regular job and this was a weekend project. (Turned into multiple weekends) After many trials and tribulations, and much stress, I figured out that the doorman gasket/ harness set on the passenger side had a dead short. It smoked my injector driver module. Replaced the The IDM $$$$, used my old factory gasket/ harness, and the truck fired right up. That was a year ago. Still runs like a champ. Now I always go OEM. I don't care how much it costs. It's the only way to go on the 7.3. Although not as hard to figure out, I had a similar problem earlier with the IPR. But you got to hit me in the head more than once to get me to pay attention.

One thing you can do to speed up restarting the truck is pull the inspection plug on the HPOP resivour and fill it with oil. You have to do it two or three times and the thing fires right up. Only takes a week to start rather than two, and doesn't melt the starter.

I’m curious to know what injector is in #7 since the solenoid body is different from the rest (excluding the AE #8). Obviously a massive high pressure leak. Check your fuel tank to see if any oil is sitting on top of the fuel. If you ripped an o-ring the oil would be in the fuel tank. If it was injector cups it’d be diesel fuel in the coolant. Also i like to use grease on the o-rings instead of oil, the injectors go in easier that way but that’s just my opinion.

When you pull the 2 plugs per bank to relieve the oil in the logs, where does it go? Guessing it runs forward since the truck rear is jacked up? Drain bucket or ? Do you have to add oil to compensate for lost oil prior to cranking engine up to prime the two pumps? Why does the #7 injector have a blue connector as opposed to yellow like the other 3 on the left bank around the 19:00 time stamp? Must be on the right side as it started after the left bank replacements accomplished. Great tutorial even though was a "hiccup".
@ProjectTimeGarage
@ProjectTimeGarage 2 жыл бұрын
On the 2 plugs, when you pull them, the oil drains back into the oil pan through the drainback holes in the head, these are the same ports where the top-end oiling for the valvetrain assembly drains back when the engine is running. #7 has a different color solenoid since these injectors are built by Full Force Diesel. Not all solenoids were the same color originally since they came from different manufacturers. It doesn't change their operation, though. Yep, we found the issue on the right side. Full video coming on Friday.

Im sure its a open fuel injector, have both my valve covers off and checked the oil coming out of the injectors and they all oil, i know this probably wont even matter since its open and not closed. I bought a 200 dollar scan tool that doesnt buzz codes. So im at a crossroad now. Thanks.

If an injector is stuck open, it will dump diesel into the cylinder. This usually will do bad things to connecting rods. It can easily "hydraulic" a cylinder.

@ProjectTimeGarage
@ProjectTimeGarage Жыл бұрын
I don't think you can tell which injector is bad by loss of power when warm, but I will tell you that most of the time a bad injector manifests when cold. I would be more interested in what's going on with the High Pressure Oil Pump (HPOP). When you are under hard acceleration, that pump should be making about 3,000psi. When the pumps get tired, you'll find that they cannot make enough pressure to keep up, this is usually what leads to them being weak under hot, hard acceleration. I have a video on my channel showing how to use an android tablet along with a cheap OBD2 reader from Amazon to see what those pressures look like.

That would have to be one hell of a o ring problem. before you start pulling out injectors I'd run a buzz test and make sure that bank is getting signal. The delay in building any pressure but then starting to build could be explained by air trapped in the rail, which can't work through the injectors on that side if they aren't firing. Best of luck whatever it turns out to be!

My guess would be a pinched o ring on the injector, or it didn't seat properly could even be a bad injector. I have had a bad reman injector that didn't work out of the box.
